Garry "Zero" Kasparov vs Viswanathan Anand | Tal Memorial 1995

- Garry Kasparov chooses the Evan's Gambit in this game against Viswanathan Anand from the 1995 Tal Memorial Chess Tournament. I could not help but be reminded some of the AlphaZero games when I viewed this game. The idea behind Kasparov's 8th move in particular was what had me wondering...would AlphaZero do the same?

"black is setting up the pieces for the next game" haha Jerry! You're Savage
Rez it's a ben finegold reference
Yeh he always seems to be sarcastic yet calm...teacher style
I don't think it's a reference to anyone, it's just a commonly used phrase (as a joke) when one side's pieces are all forced to retreat to their home squares.
totally spat my food... Still laughing at it
Was so funny :)
thumbs up for that slick Bob Ross reference
Jordan Torres Garry with the titanium phwhite pieces.
Team USA And Anand with the midnight black pieces.
"black is setting up the pieces for the next game" Gotta lova Jerry :)
Nils Hoyer that's a ben finegold reference
actually this joke is older than my stepmom
raiduk But Finegold’s been saying that “since before all of you were born-even those older than me” -GM Finegold
@@bluekeybo "I played Rh8 so when I resign I can set up the pieces faster" gotta love Ben Finegold
Jerry is a born teacher. And a great one at that.
Teaching is the best way to learn!
Love it when you ask us what the next move might be
Keeps us interacting and even more intrigued about their fascinating moves
I feel so proud of myself, I called that last move! (don't want to spoil it in the comments). Dude, you remind me why I love chess. And your format is killer, saying what you'd do, asking what we think, showing what the computer thinks, and the game moves.
Right!
Bob Ross once said: "There are no mistakes, just happy blunders."
happy blunders are no better than mistakes, they won't bring you closer to victory
@@PersimmonHurmo You seem to be a really fun guy.
happy inaccuracies?
In group projects, I'm usually the rook on a1
"I'm helping!"
This is my favorite comment
My favourite player! And he made a video of Kasparov!!
I see what you did there!
Jerry brings out the narrative so well. I can't get enough of these videos. Thanks, Jerry!
Loved "He's setting up the pieces for the next game" -- brutal trash talk, Jerry!
I really enjoy how in depth you go into these games. As someone with a slightly above average rating (1489), I feel like I'm learning a lot watching these videos.
Thank you for posting this video Jerry! I am especially grateful that on my birthday you have a game in which you compare Garry Kasparov to Alpha Zero.
Happy Birthday! :)
Jerry's on a roll! Thank you as always!
Jerry, you madman! Another sleep schedule slaughtered. (Love the work, but you have to post later in the day sometimes. Excellent video as always.)
Lets make a happy little pawn here.
Now that pawn is lonely lets move another beside him.Very good
Dont be sad if you couldnt find the star move.We dont make mistakes we happy blunders.

At depth 30, Stockfish 9 agrees with Kasparov and would take with Queen. Had to use 2 lines to find it though. (Hashtable size 4096 MB)
Komodo 12.1.1 finds it at depth 22 with just one line.
Komodo 12.1.1 > Stockfish 9
"Black is setting up the pieces for next game" 😂😂😂
Thanks for these videos!
Just wanted to share I'm still loving your content as ever, even when I'm not playing much chess.
Long time no hear TCM. Thank you! :)
Excellent excellent video. Extremely instructive, clear, and thorough. Really pinpoints the thought process behind various moves that did or did not happen, and effectively highlights the importance of a good development over piece count. This game could almost have been played by Tal.
It's nice to revisit the Evan's Gambit. It was a favorite of mine when I first learned.
Settin pieces for a next game with Bf8
LMAO
Jerry's humour is the best
Love that you are doing chess games analysis again. I love'em
You are a wonderful contributor to RUclips. Thank you
Thank you
Now ur natural voice is back.
Good to hear that jerry.
Thanks for wonderfull content jerry!
Make about Capablanca vs Alekhine from 1927 world chess championship
Do it!! Thank you Jerry for the great content and analysis over the years!
QD4 @2:40 was the first quiz I've ever gotten right in watching your channel lmao. I was so pumped! I'm not great at chess, but it made me feel smart.
Edit: @ 2:43 I know nothing... nevermind.
Very insightful observation regarding neural net play, Jerry.
2:21 Happy little pawns KappaRoss
That 8.Qd4 escort was a beautiful move, thanks for pointing it out. Really makes the gears turn in this Evans Gambit
Just subbed u got a relaxing voice. I enjoy grand master analysis
Love it. Alpha Zero really takes advantage of the queen in this way. A lot of queen moves in Alpha Zeros games
Another video o.0 This is madness Jerry!
Was that a face reveal Jerry?
Lol nah it's Bob Ross, happy little pawns!
Except the accidents here are not happy ones :p
@Johaylon well if any accidents just beat the devil out of your mouse
Plot twist: Kasparov is alphazero
He can't even face stockfish and you are dreaming of alphazero?
@@ni30anna deep blue*
@@ni30anna That defeat to deep blue is hella controversial. The move Garry Kasparov played was intended for computers and not for humans. He wasn't expecting a human-like reply and argued that human intervention was a factor
This Evans gambit is something else.
Great content as usual my man.
I am not sure if I did not hear it correctly... so you are Gerry Kasparov..;-) Hey.. thanks for the great lessons here. You explain things well. More power. .. subscribing.
There is a book to write with Jerry's lines. "black is setting up the pieces for next game" hahaha you are the best Jerry.
omg i love this game so much! evans gambit is definitely a line to think about while playing italian. playing like leela is hard, but kasparov is a legend. btw, love how he says:"setting up pieces for next round"
I love the pop quizzes. I always rush to pause the video, so I can avoid hearing the answer immediately after. Do you think you could give us a few more secs to pause?
Very nice video, as always! Very much enjoying your explanations, and I don't even play chess ^_^'
i found the last move Re1 but what if instead of resigning, black plays Bh6!
i think it's a move that allows him to continue this game because after white makes any move you can capture his knight then get a Rook to e8
Guessed correctly!! I call that a Kasparov Cannon!!
Very good commentary great coaching
Thank you Kevin.
I love the happy little Bob Ross pawns Jerry! No mistakes, just happy accidents!
So glad I've found this channel. I was getting tired of seeing Agadmator's dog lick its private parts in the background..
Re. the game you commented on:
Garry "Zero" Kasparov vs Viswanathan Anand | Tal Memorial 1995
On move 22, Kasparov goes Qe3+
and Anand replies with Kf7
It seems to me Anand missed a golden chance
here to neutralize white's attack
or have a good chance of it.
He could have replied
with Qe7. Had he done that,
there would still be a chance
of castling queenside.
What think you?
wonderful game by kasparov
Setting up pieces for the next game: A NEXT LEVEL COMMENT
Is not because a piece is in his home square that it is necessarily bad.The piece can work well there in many situations. In this game, for instance, the black position is clumsy, but the f8 bishop is actually protecting a lot of black squares in the kingside, and is a relatively good defending piece.
But black's position was of course crambling, because of many other factors.
Zero has a new meaning now.
11:34 What if black moves the dark square bishop to h6? Queen is pinned at first, then after some action at e6, black can happily exchange a sitting bishop for an active knight and if not, at least allowing doubling up of rooks in h8 file. Wanted to see how that variation would've played off. (again, I might just be overlooking something important, making this a useless move or a mistake, but anyway)
Then bishop c4 win immediately, now Black Queen not protect by Black bishop
Bust in the Evans gambit lol jkjk I think Deep Blue had a huge psychological effect on Kasparov after his loss. I'd like to see him play against a modern engine at like a 9/10 strength
Is 17. Bg7 playable? Or black is just going to give up a dumb rook for a good bishop and play on?
Lol Bob Ross! This is your world Jerry. You can have happy little pawns everywhere in your world!
😄
“Black is setting up the pieces for the next game.” Haha!
Great work Jerry!
Kasparov was the world's first chess engine. He regards this as one of his favorite games he played.
Thank you Jerry!
"White can flush the black knight whenever he wants.." Excellent teaching, thanks.
Black is setting up the pieces for the next game has me rolling
Wonderful
Liked before watching :)
Thanks!
Kasparov was not only the best player of the world, but he was also the the most exciting to watch.
even his reactions were exiting
Nice game and thx for the explanation
6:22 bg7 rb8 bxe5 wins a piece right?
17. Bg7 ... Bf6 black suddenly has a great bishop on a perfectly open diagonal is dictating play since white needs to do something about the knight discovery attacking the Rook on a1, has the 2 bishops in an open position and 2 extra pawns
Loved the game
Nobody explains chess games so well.
thank you
I see a checkmate from white side in 8:14
Could someone explain why on move 25 black can't try Queen to D7?
Great work Jerry
thanks Jerry
At 1:31 why can’t black play knight to h 7 and that would let him castle
Please answer
What about 17.Bg7 @6:24 instead of Nc3? How does black prevent losing an exchange?
liam314 that's a good move I think. Also @10:55 what if black plays any other move instead of Re8. How will white be in a winning position
saatvik sannuthi Re8 is forced because black loses the bishop on e6 otherwise
That would be a best move he could capture a knight on E5
Kasparov at his peak in the 80s and 90s proved to be the worlds best, his tactically ability is not comparable to other world champions. Yes now they are good opening theory (with the help of engines) but that wouldnt help against Kasparov that much.
Why am I so distracted when you mispronounce Garry's name ?
It's not Casper-Off - it's kuh-SPAR-off
Black is setting up the pieces for the next game XD
Good chess learning class
2:26 “ happy little pawns” 😂😂😂😂
D4 and d5 are the bob ross of pawns
Hey jerry can u post some more standard games please ? Johnbartholo stopped posting them and you too did stop.it would be cool and unique if u post a few more.thx in advance :)
Holy shit the speed of those first moves
Interesting game thanks.
it's funny you mention e5 as a key square, because I actually felt, imagining myself as black, to just play d6 instead of exd4
Bob Ross. I miss this guy.
17. Bg7 appears to win a piece. others have commented on this, and i see no response yet...
Love that Bob Ross reference Jerry, keep up the good stuff! Oh and question what do you use to edit?
I like to throw little things like that in there from time to time. Camtasia
Bob ross superimposed on the pawns caught me completely off-guard, fantastic
This is 3rd time I see this video. I also saw "The Avengers" three times :)
Garry "Zero" love
haha Thanx Jerry
2:25 we love Bob ross
@10:08 why take with the queen? Why not pawn d6d5?
Zero Ryoko white would just take the pawn and you’re in the same situation
hi everyone its jerry
What about bishop h6 for black after white plays re1?
Good one Jerry. I prefer Garry "1 point" Kasparov
At 1:14 why not just do queen b3 then? What makes it better after black captures the pawn?
Black knight can defend f7 by going to h6
Thank you
