They hated her for being herself. But i still love her
It’s not for nothing for many. Her music and image haven’t evolved much and this album just ain’t it I’m sorry. Very basic pop music even by Katy’s standards.

First of all,Never Really Over debuted amd peaked at #15,without 0 promotion,so if it was promoted,it could've been #1,and Smile would now debut at #1,....not #5 ;(

The problem was that the album as a whole was not ready... the concept evolved throughout this time.

the only reason it's not doing too well it's because the best songs were released months ago the hype died down i love katy but she should have made Never Really Over the official lead single not just a droplet it's one of the best pop songs in a long time

I’m so glad you liked this. In my opinion, this is one of Katy’s best albums. Like you said it’s solid all the way through. It’s full of catchy hooks, clean production and pretty good lyrics.
I think people are very impressionable and their judgement is clouded by commercial success. For one reason or another this isn’t as commercially successful as her other albums and therefore people see it as being “not as good”.
I wish people just accepted a good pop album for what it is and enjoyed it regardless of its commercial performance. Katy Perry, or anyone else for that matter, doesn’t need to make a big ‘cultural impact’ for her music to be considered good pop music. It makes me sad to see all these critiques saying how she needs to reinvent herself to say “relevant” when she’s just released a pretty fantastic pop album. Surely that should be enough!

Your reaction to this album was such a breath of fresh air! So many reactions to this have been bad or either very critical. You had very nice words & perfect input to what you didn’t like but you said it in a way that she can either improve or just fix on. Your comments or critiques weren’t harsh at all & I loved that. It is sad to see that this album didn’t do the way it should’ve but at the same time I think this album was mainly made for her & her KatyCats. This was album more about finding herself & loving herself. I personally loved the album, definitely on my top 3 list of favorite albums from Katy! Thank you for your reaction! Loved it! 😊🔥

Her label (Capitol) has been a pain. They are not promoting the album as much and it really sucks, the album is not reaching to people. No one really knows that Katy has released an album.
You should check out her Witness (Deluxe) album that was released in 2017. It got a huge backlash and was labelled "flop" which makes no sense cause the album was very experimental. She wasn't using her same old Teenage Dream "pop" sound and people freaked out. I think it was a great album, lyrically and the production was CRAZY.
Also, Katy co-writes all her songs :)
I think blackcash really started after ''Bon Appetit'' (few weeks before the released of the album), because ''Chained to the Rhythm'' was very successful and was very well received in radios and in MTV (i remember to hear this song so much this song in radios). But when the song ''Bon Appetit'' came out, this song received a huge controversy and she was criticised hugely to work with homophobic rappers. And the song was boycotted by radios and the video was a horror (like the title) and the song was a flop not just in crititcs, but also in public. It's really affect her career and after that, all the next singles of the album was not a success and not reproduced the success of ''Chained to the Rhythm'' or many classics songs (like Dark Horse or Last Friday Night)

I also wrote this but I want to write again, I saw Billie Eilish's 'Bad' cover, I was wondering if you could listen to it and then the original Michael Jackson's and then explain us some technical parts where she did things more interesting or boring or how she changed the melody and it was still that good. I honestly liked it more than the original, probably just because it was slower and Billie's voice is so beautiful. Same goes for the 5SOS 'No Roots' cover, I think they did a great job there, I would like to hear about that too!
