This looks so good. It definitely reminds me of Masa, a Nigerian dish as well. I love the use of Coconut milk and sugar and having it with Chai tea sounds delicious . God bless you for bringing us do many interesting recipes from Tanzania. I am adding this to my "must try" recipe list. ❤️❤️❤️
Wow Nanaaba, you have really learned very well from TZ and the Swahili dishes. I come from Kenyan coastal region and this makes me salivate because it reminds me of home. We mostly eat Swahili foods and most of them with coconut. Am so proud of you
Omg I thought this was a Nom Kruok from Cambodia! It's made with rice, rice flour, coconut milk, spring onion and sometimes prawn as well. Fried exactly the same way, except you flip one on top of the other to make a ball. To eat, you dip it in a coconut milk and fish sauce mix. Super excited to try this since I have the pan already!
Thanks Nanaaba! Growing up we used to have this in Accra, Ghana as street food and usually in the mornings. Maasa, yes, prepared as a savory and they open it up and add sugar before eating. Well done for taking me down the memory lane 👏 👌 👍!
Hey Nanabaa... We have this dish in India as well. Especially in southern part of India. We call it paniyaram or appam. We have it in both savoury and sweet. 😃
Sis you delivered as usual. This is a popular street food in the northern part of Nigeria known as masa. This swahili version must be so flavourful. Thanks so much for all you do.❤️❤️❤️
Uzoamaka, first of all beautiful name! I never heard it until this Nigeria actress on tv and plays in the U.S. called the same name, but becos people couldnt pronounce it, she calls herself Uzo. Her surname is Aduba! I love the full name tho! I know my comment is not about food, but i had to tell u how much I love that name! 🙋♀️🖐
@nanaaba, this is also a northern Ghanaian dish. It’s called Maasa , we make it with rice or millets but without the coconut milk. Good job sist, looks delicious 😋
Nana Aba, thanks for sharing the recipe. It's amazing from the comments it's a dish eaten in the West to East Africa, India, Philippines called differently with slight variation in its preparation. Although never been a fan on Masa in Ghana I will give this a try. You did not say what the pan to fry it in was called. I am sure the pan will serve multi purpose in my kitchen one I get my hand on it. 😊
Just had it this morning for breakfast in my hotel in Z’Bar and decided to look for the recipe and try it out. It seems incredible easy. I can’t wait to try it when I’m back home. Thank you for the clear instructions . Ahsante ❤️
I just know I will love this, it looks really similar to a Filipino dish too! It's called Bibingka and rather than yeast, we use natural yeast from fermented coconut water to leaven it. So interesting how similar they are.
I am born and brought up in Dar. Love Kitumbua and Maandazi for breakfast, yummy with masala chai. Idli and Sandaan taste different, as steamed and not fried. Maybe their is similar roots to all these dishes ranging from Africa, India upto Philippines
Happy Monday beautiful chef! Jazmin is the only rice I use. This is an amazing recipe that I will try. You are always inspiring beautiful chef. Have a blessed week.
Mambo Dada Nanaaba:) When back in Tz, please do a meet and greet, so exciting to see a delicacy from my home country, should we expect some Swahili Biriyaani soon. 😍😘
I am going to soak rice this evening was what I told my self when the video started until I saw the frying device but trust me sister madam, I will find a way around this 😅. You should watch out for this particular recipe from my corner😁❤. This looks good 👍🏽
Breakfast/breakfast foods are my favorite also, and I LOVE chai! This is the second rice cake video that I have seen so far and you are making me want them more and more! ❤❤❤ They look so yummy!!!
A few days ago I found a recipe of Indian steam bun and the dough for them is made by the same technique, it is called Idli. It's look like the dish is common for the West Indian Ocean area.👏
Greetings from Denmark. These masa reminds me of the danish "aebleskiver" made from thick pancake batter. You can put small fruit vedges (apple e.g.) before turning the mosa in the pan. You can also serve them with strawberry jam and powdered sugar with tea or coffee. Your version would be great with bitter-orange jam.Yum. Joan ❤😋
Wow am happy to see you cooking swahili food, please one day try cooking chips mayai and Pilau.. I have been learning and trying different foods from your channel.... much love from Tanzania 🇹🇿

Looks yummy! Interesting to see references to similar food in other countries; as a Swahili food, it transcends Tanzani. It reminds me of mehndazi but with rice not wheat flour and the cooking skillet looks fun! Thank you for sharing.
