Great job! 👍🏾 I always interpreted Shelley’s “in your dreams” kill differently because she was killed while pursuing (what I would assume to be) her dream career as a med tech. But dying while laying down makes sense too! 28:37
What I love about Valentine is that it shows despite having a background, reputation, upbringing, social status, characteristic, personality, category, and image you can still maintain a friendship with all sorts of different individual's. Shelly, Lily, Paige, Kate, and Dorothy we're all best friends since childhood that all care about each very much but despite that Dorothy was very unhappy and miserable due to her weight issues. Ever since 6th grade Dorothy had that reputation and image of being "fat", "ugly" and " unpopular'' compare to her "pretty" and " popular" friends which earned her the nicknamed " The Big Fat One" and "Buffalo" which affect her emotionally and mentally as it lead to lifelong anger, insecurity, jealously, and resentment towards Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate. In my opinion I don't understand how can Dorothy be a social outcast. I mean sure she was overweight as a child but she was rich. I'm pretty sure if her classmate's knew that she will be popular like Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate. If Dorothy had confidence her life would have been better as she will be refer as " The Rich One." In adulthood she transformed into a true beauty as she figure if she slimmed down she will gained confidence and lack insecurity but unfortunately deep down she still has that chip on her shoulder and childhood trauma. Sure Dorothy was the richest out of Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate but to her she didn't accept that as she wanted popularity, credibility, recognition, likeability, and admiration like her friends based on the argument between her and Kate when they both accused their boyfriend's of being the killer which is Adam ( Kate's boyfriend) and Campbell ( Dorothy's boyfriend) as Dorothy figure that Kate was jealous but in reality Kate was stating logical and common facts. 1. She been dating Campbell for a month and she doesn't even know his last name?, 2. She mention what Ruthie his ex-girlfriend said, and 3. How well do you really know Campbell? It made her angry that she finally told Kate of how she feels about being " The Fat One" as she rants about their personality and characteristic traits as she said " Come on Kate!!!!! You've always been the popular one, and Shelly was always the brainy one, and Lily was the fun one, and Paige was the sexy one, and I was the big fat one!!!!! And as far as you concerned that's exactly the way how it is Well you know what? Screwed all of you!!!!!!! I can tell Kate was hurt and shocked of how long she kept this. To Dorothy things will never change and stay the same like earlier years ago as she will be always unhappy and miserable due to her belief her " unpopularity" as Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate will always have happiness and great things in their life due to their "popularity". Dorothy should at least be grateful for her friends because they all genuinely and sincerely like her for she was but Dorothy was blinded by rage and fury to see that. In my opinion Dorothy is a complex character. It makes the audience feel sorry for her and want her to win such as getting a chance of happiness in life but at the same time we want her to die as she was the most horrible and worst one out of Shelly, Lily, and Paige as she was the main source of Jeremy's public humiliation. In my opinion Dorothy should have view Jeremy's invitation to dance as a positive standpoint as at least someone had interest in her since she wasn't really popular like Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate and everything would have been cool if Dorothy was real and just told the truth that she was kissing Jeremy. For example-( Bully)- " You like it Buffalo getting hot?" ( Dorothy)- "Yeah I am it was great". Sure she would have been still teased but at least it won't end horribly but unfortunately due to her insecurities she did Jeremy dirty as she framed him for sexual assault, got him beat up by bullies, and got sent to reform school. Everytime when I watch the scene when Dorothy confesses that Jeremy never attacked her and her justification of why she did it really makes my skin crawl as it was just absolutely pitiful. She framed Jeremy for sexual assault because she was fat like what? 😕 She wasn't even fat in my opinion. Even though she confesses it wasn't really remorseful or regretful. Watching Jeremy getting his revenge on Dorothy was so satisfying as it put a smirk on my face as she deserved everything that came to her. 😏😈
Yup exactly. Jeremy framed Dorothy for the murders just like Dorothy framed Jeremy for sexual assault. I love Valentine. It's one of the best slasher movies. It's something about it that really intrigues me. It has this sexy and guilty pleasure vibe such as the concept, element, tone, and theme as it was just constructed perfectly. It was such a unique and creative perspective in the slasher genre. The actresses did a great job portraying their roles. Also I love that twist ending and that song called Breed by Snake River Conspiracy that plays at the ending credits. It was just a really perfect way to end the movie. To this day I keep up a tradition of watching it every February and I consider it decent. Valentine is a true blue modern gem. Jamie Blanks directed a classic that will be in our hearts forever. It never gets old.😍😎👍💯

Valentine is one of those movies that you can not possibly forget as it's just so memorable and well-known. It is one of Jamie Blanks best and finest work in cinema. When it was first released it received negative reviews which totally confused me but despite that I hold it very close to my heart. The movie was just constructed perfectly from the very beginning to the end. It was such a fun rollercoaster thrill ride. You have a good time with this movie. I'm so happy that Scream Factory Blu-Ray released a Collector's Edition as it's finally getting the recognition and credibility it deserves as critics and audiences are fully understanding and comprehending the interpretation of the story.😍😎👍💯
Valentine is one of those movies that you root for the killer instead of the main character's. It also teaches you a valuable lesson to be aware of your actions and how they come with severe and extreme consequences and circumstances as your past is coming right back to haunt you as that was Jamie Blanks purpose and interpretation of the story which works perfectly for the movie which made it unique and special. 😍💯👍😎 Jeremy Melton began life as a lonely and awkward young boy. He was also a social outcast at San Francisco Robert F. Kennedy Middle school whom he was deeply infatuated by five girls named Shelly Fisher, Lily Voight, Paige Prescott, Kate Davies, and Dorothy Wheeler. He looked up to Valentine's Day to finally find social acceptance, happinesses, and loved in one of his crushes but that backfired horribly. Everytime when I watch the opening scene it fills me with rage and sadness as my heart aches for Jeremy 😭😞🥺 as Shelly, Lily, Paige rejected him in a cruel and heartless way as she was not considerate and sympathetic of his feeling's, Kate also rejected him as well but at least she did it in a kind and polite way as she was considerate and sympathetic of his feeling's which is why he always loved her and spared her life, and Dorothy framed him for sexual assault, got him beat up by bullies, and got sent to reform school. I definitely feel remorse and empathy for Jeremy as I totally sympathize for him as he was completely innocent the whole entire time as he was falsely accused of a sexual assault allegation as he got sent to reform school, a year later he lands in juvenile hall, and six months later he stayed at a mental hospital. For the past 13 years Jeremy went through a whole and full transformation in order to change his appearance in order to get close to Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Dorothy so he can exact his revenge as he specifically remember's their comments they state to him when he ask each one of them to dance which foreshadow their fates. Jeremy went through pain, agony, hell, and trauma due to their actions as he was publicly humiliated which made him overcome with rage and vengeance thus making him into a serial killer with the sole intention of getting revenge. Watching Jeremy getting his revenge on them was so satisfying as they all deserved it as they did not take full responsibility for their actions as their past is coming right back to haunt them all as they do not have no remorse or regret. 😏😈

5:04 no, never! One of the things I adore about Scream is good old fashioned knive kills only (until they all use the guns haha). That's a slasher foundation! I am glad they stick to it. :)
In my opinion Dorothy should have told Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate of how she feels about being " The Fat One". I'm pretty sure they would have been very supportive. I give Shelly, Lily, and Paige credit ( minus Kate who was such a genuinely and sincerely sweet and nice person) because most girls will be mean and not want her to be her friend.

I was just about to leave a comment on your latest Scream video to ask if you've seen or were planning on talking about this movie. Love the depth you guys go into here! Sucks that his movie is likely just seen as a 'lesser Scream', since it was a cool premise and many memorable moments. This was my introduction to Denise Richards and she was the star of the show. And, it always stuck with me how they found a girl that looked so much like Denise Richards. Marley Shelton is just a pleasure to watch in anything.

And this podcast is so great cause you guys are so great. Thanks for all the work you do. You guys flood my brain with dopamine. Much ❤
When you mentioned the ring from Angel that allowed him to go in daylight, I was like “these guys know their Buffyverse A++” Really enjoyed the podcast, keep it up!
It's a fine flick, not the best one, but fun enough. I like how it's a post Scream slick ode to 80s revenge slashers, with some gialloesque esthetics to it. Killer's look is really solid. Also killer's nose bleeding might me a cool nod to another overlooked and kind of atypical 80s slasher Alone In The Dark, which is a nice gimmick. I think I enjoy it more than Urban Legend (same directors).
'Blanks was inspired by Jack Sholder’s still-fantastic Alone in the Dark (1982) for the killer’s bloody nose gag. “They probably won’t allow me to use that in the commentary anyway. Apologies to all the Alone in the Dark fans out there, I was aware that I was stealing it from that movie. I did it knowingly.”'

I don't know if you've listened to the commentary for Valentine but the director confirms that Jeremy Melton was the sole killer. He said he was going to film a scene showing Adam (David Boreanaz) knocking out Dorothy and putting the costume on her. However, he didn't want to give away the reveal at the end. I saw this film in theatres and loved it.

While 80’s slashers always seem to get the spotlight, I have a soft spot for all of the late 90’s to early 00’s slashers. There was something special about them. Scream, Cherry Falls, Urban Legends, IKWYDLS, and of course, Valentine. All movies that I wish had a resurgence of conversation.

I took this podcast as an opportunity to rewatch the film. I hadn't seen it since it originally came out and was thoroughly underwhelmed with it at the time. I have to say I enjoyed it very much this time around, actually. Some of the characters, Paige especially, aged very well. They would probably be better received today than back then. Even Dorothy gets some depth and you feel a bit sorry for her, despite being awful. I liked how pretty much every murder gets its own distinguished set piece. I also loved it when the ex walked in on the murderer hiding the maids corpse. That was so funny, as you often wonder in Slachers, how the killers find the time to stage elaborate murder scenes and no one ever sees them doing it. I guess back in the day I wanted every slasher to be like Scream/Urban Legends/IkwydlS etc. with a big reveal in the end and a manic villain monologue, so I was disappointed when I didn't get that. I'm more eclectic these days thankfully. 🤗 What was odd, was that we didn't see the killing of the Maid (why? what did she do?) and the police officer. I feel like the latter especially would have made sense to be included. Probably ended on the cutting room floor. Shame. This one will be added to my collection, thank you.

Paige is my favourite character in this ngl I like Kate in this and it funny that the actress is Judy Hicks. But I just like how she complex she kind of feels bad when the light flash at the prom, I just feel like her character better bring out the themes she wants a love connection and she is horribly shamed by boys who just want her for a good time like Brian she would of waxed it if he wasn’t rude, and even the cop she flirty with to begin with then he’s inappropriate and she stands up to him she doesn’t want to be treated like dirt and her friends shame her though out the whole fi even Kate. Denise played this role amazing bring all her layers she has the most remorse saying they were so horrible and at the dance the actress look regretful. I could honestly imagine her being the final girl with how compelling her character is compared to everyone as she just want’s equal love and not to be treated like dirt and is horribly shamed by all her friends but she stands up for herself and is more assertive and has more agency to Kate.
Denise Richards did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Paige Prescott as she put tons of emotion and depth into her role as she was such a cruel and heartless character as it makes the audiences wanted to see her die.😍😎👍💯😏😈 Through the whole entire movie Paige never show any ounce of sincerity and compassion for Jeremy. Even though she admitted that they we're horrible to him but it wasn't really sincere and genuine and despite the fact that she knows he is the killer after Dorothy confesses that Jeremy never attacked her her reaction was very harsh and spiteful as she was indeed shocked but at the same time she was very nonchalant and dismissive as she didn't really see Jeremy as a threat or a serial killer considering he was a social outcast during his childhood. Based on the charterization in the movie it's indicating that she did not take full responsibility for her actions as she is still cruel and heartless as she does not have no remorse or regret for how she treated Jeremy years ago.🥺😟😭
I think the issue with the film is that its "very 2000s", but the film itself is pretty decent horror film on the whole. Plus Marley Shelton, David Boreanaz, and Denise Richards are all perfect.

First time I ever saw Marley Shelton in anything. She is great at playing tough while looking very not tough. It has a Prom Night (OG) vibe without feeling like a ripoff.
i don’t think that this is a scream knock off … but i do agree there are similarities! I think that jeremy killed campbell because he thought he would get in the way of his plan with dorothy he needed her to be alone, scared and vulnerable, also it’s just another chance to hurt dorothy and make her acknowledge her own insecurities. The ending and how we don’t get a reveal and motive? i think that we do get a reveal, we know that adam is jeremy and the darkness in his eyes in that moment of the reveal you just know he did that and i personally don’t think we need a motive explained because we know it, the girls tortured this guy when they were younger paige even says that and it ultimately led to him being put in a reformed school and labeled a creep also he was emasculated by the girls except for kate. so it would just be repetitive information we have already seen. also dorothy confessing the truth about framing jeremy is a very vulnerable moment for her since she explains she was the bigger girl and was always teased and she finally got attention from someone but she knew the minute people saw them together she was going to be made fun of even more so she frames him, i guess i have a soft spot for dorothy cause i can relate to her childhood situation but her being the killer would have been very interesting but i do enjoy her being framed as the killer as well it’s definitely ironic considering she is the one who accuses adam of being jeremy lol and i agree with terror train reference completely! never thought of that before! i love the symbolism in the kills with the girls!!!❤️🔥 golden girls opinion is great! 🤣
After watching Valentine last week, I feel like Dorothy was part of the killings. She told Campbell to go down to the basement and then he got killed. She also knew Paige was in the hot tub at her party when Kate asked where the hell is Paige.
To the audience Dorothy is a red herring as it makes us think she is the killer based on the argument between her and Kate when they both accused their boyfriend's of being the killer which is Adam ( Kate's boyfriend) and Campbell ( Dorothy's boyfriend) as Dorothy figure that Kate was jealous but in reality Kate was stating logical and common facts. 1. She been dating Campbell for a month and she doesn't even know his last name?, 2. She mention what Ruthie his ex-girlfriend said, and 3. How well do you really know Campbell? It made her angry that she finally told Kate of how she feels about being " The Fat One" as she rants about their personality and characteristic traits as she said " Come on Kate!!!! You've always been the popular one and Shelly was always the brainy one, and Lily was the fun one, and Paige was the sexy one, and I was the big fat one!!!! and as far as you concerned that's exactly the way how it is well you know what? screwed all of you!!!!" That was a bad move on Dorothy's part as she angrily walks away from Kate which made her a easy target for Jeremy. If Dorothy stay with Kate they could have both defeat the killer and Kate will see who the killer is and Kate will apologize to Dorothy for not believing her that Adam was the killer as they will both be the sole survivors of the killing spree. When Adam unmasked the "killer" it is revealed to be Dorothy which shocked Kate but their's a twist as it shows Adam nose is bleeding which indicates he is Jeremy Melton after all as he is the true killer as he framed Dorothy for the murders just like Dorothy framed him for sexual assault. The audience know that because in the opening scene of the movie Jeremy's nose was bleeding when he was attacked by school bullies at the Valentine's Day dance. To this day it still gives me chills and goosebumps 😱😰 as it was just a really perfect way to end the movie due to the works of director Jamie Blanks as it was just constructed perfectly.😍😎👍💯

Out of Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Dorothy who we're very cruel and heartless Kate is the most likeable one due to her being such a genuinely sweet and nice person. She rejected Jeremy in a kind and polite way as she was considerate and sympathetic of his feeling's and she feels remorse and empathy for him despite the fact that she knows he is the killer after Dorothy confesses that Jeremy never attacked her. For the past 13 years Jeremy always remember Kate as the only person that ever gave him a ounce of sincerity and compassion in his life which is why he always loved her and spared her life.
You guys nailed Dorothy's voice, lol! I don't know why, but her voice is incredibly irritating to me. .....and Ruthie does resemble Miranda Sings!! I can't unsee it now!
Out of Shelly, Lily, and Paige who we're very cruel and heartless Dorothy is the most horrible and worst one. Wait. I need to rewatch this film. I saw it when it came out in theatres but haven't seen it since. I never interpreted the ending of Dorothy being a second killer. In my head Adam was the solo killer and set up Dorothy as payback for her setting him up when they were kids.

Jessica Capshaw portrayed Dorothy Wheeler in the movie. Her character had a unhappy and miserable childhood due to her weight issues which affect her emotionally and mentally as it lead to lifelong anger, insecurity, jealously, and resentment towards her "pretty" and "popular" friends. In adulthood she transformed into a true beauty as she figure if she slimmed down she will gained confidence and lack insecurity but unfortunately deep down she still has that chip on her shoulder and childhood trauma. She did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Dorothy Wheeler as she put tons of emotion and depth into her role as it makes the audiences see her character very complex as we want her to win such as getting a chance of happiness in life but at the same time we want her to die as she was the most horrible and wrost one.😍😎💯👍

They didn't pick a cherry on top (best element/person in the movie) in this video, just the people who most deserved to be dispatched. I rewound, thinking I missed it. Is this a more recent thing they didn't do in the old videos?
I think Zach would of picked Paige as in My Bloody Valentine they say she could of been a better final girl and the other guy sorry I forgot his name prob would of picked Dorothy

I’ve loved this movie since it came out! I’d just turned 9 when it was released so definitely shouldn’t have been watching it but I was into horrors from age 6 I think! I essentially wanted to watch it for David Boreanaz because i was and still am a huge Buffy fan so he was my main attraction to see it. The film has held its own really well though I still watch it every few years and love the cheesy attempt at being 90s whilst over a year into being the 00s and figuring out it’s place 😂 it’s so underrated too I don’t know anyone else personally whos seen it which is insane to me !

Ever since 6th grade Dorothy had that reputation and image of being "fat",
"ugly" and " unpopular'' compare to her "pretty" and " popular" friends which earned her the nicknamed " The Big Fat One" and "Buffalo" which affect her emotionally and mentally as it lead to lifelong anger, insecurity, jealously, and resentment towards Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate. 😏😈

Shelly, Lily, Paige, Kate, and Dorothy we're all best friends since childhood that all care about each other very much but despite that Dorothy was very unhappy and miserable due to her weight issues. Ever since 6th grade Dorothy had that reputation and image of being "fat", "ugly" and "unpopular" compare to her "pretty" and "popular" friends which earned her the nicknamed " The Big Fat One" and " Buffalo" which affect her emotionally and mentally as it lead to lifelong anger, insecurity, jealously, and resentment towards Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate. In my opinion I don't understand how can Dorothy be a social outcast. I mean sure she was overweight as a child but she was rich. I'm pretty sure if her classmate's knew that she would be popular just like Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate. It made her angry that she finally told Kate of how she feels about being " The Fat One" as she rants about their personality and characteristic traits as she said " Come on Kate!!!! You've always been the popular one and Shelly was always the brainy one, and Lily was the fun one, and Paige was the sexy one, and I was the big fat one!!!! and as far as you concerned that's exactly the way how it is well you know what? screwed all of you!!!!!" I can tell Kate was hurt and shock of how she kept this. To Dorothy things will never change and stay the same like earlier years ago as she will be always unhappy and miserable due to her belief her "unpopularity" as Shelly, Lily, Paige, and Kate will always have great things and happiness in their life due to their "popularity". Dorothy should at least be grateful for her friends because they all genuinely and sincerely like her for who she was. In my opinion Dorothy is a complex character. It makes the audience feel sorry for her and want her to win such as getting a chance of happiness in life but at the same time we want her to die as she was the most horrible and wrost one out of Shelly, Lily, and Paige. For example-( Bully)- "You like it Buffalo getting hot?" ( Dorothy)- " Yeah I am it was great." Sure she would have been still teased but at least it won't end horribly but unfortunately due to her insecurities she did Jeremy dirty. She framed him for sexual assault, got him beat up by bullies, and got sent to reform school. Everytime when I watch the scene when Dorothy confesses that Jeremy never attacked her and her justification of why she did it really makes my skin crawl as it was just absolutely pitiful. She framed him for sexual assault because she was fat like what? 😕 She wasn't even fat in my opinion. Even though she confesses it wasn't really remorseful or regretful. Wacthing Jeremy getting his revenge on Dorothy was so satisfying as it put a smirk on my face as she deserved everything that came to her as she was the main source of Jeremy's public humiliation.😏😈 Kate was under the impression that Lily was in L.A since Lily mention she was going their in a deleted scene.

I love Valentine. It's one of the best slasher movies. It's something about it that really intrigues me. It has this sexy and guilty pleasure vibe such as the concept, element, tone, and theme as it was just constructed perfectly. It was such a unique and creative perspective in the slasher genre.

Do urban legends at some point. Love the podcast format.
Good observations
I think in the DVD commentary the director says he got the nose bleed gag from alone in the dark !

Yeah, he’s pretty rigid about that fact. But the writers did confirm it was originally Dorothy.

What was odd, was that we didn't see the killing of the Maid (why? what did she do?) and the police officer. I feel like the latter especially would have made sense to be included. Probably ended on the cutting room floor. Shame.
This one will be added to my collection, thank you.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It certainly has aged very well, and Denise really is the MVP. Too bad she wasn’t the final girl.

Loved the scream episode

Wait so Dorothy wasn’t working with Jeremy Milton? I always thought she was working with him he betrayed her at the end because he finally got the girl he wanted?
The implication is that she was innocent and he framed her, although it’s not really that tidy of a conclusion.
Jeremy framed Dorothy for the murders just like Dorothy framed him for sexual assault. Wacthing Jeremy getting his revenge on Dorothy was so satisfying as it put a smirk on my face as she deserved everything that came to her as she was the main source of Jeremy's public humiliation.😏😈

This movie is NOT talked about enough.
It never gets old.😍😎👍💯
They didn't pick a cherry on top (best element/person in the movie) in this video, just the people who most deserved to be dispatched. I rewound, thinking I missed it. Is this a more recent thing they didn't do in the old videos?
I think Zach would of picked Paige as in My Bloody Valentine they say she could of been a better final girl and the other guy sorry I forgot his name prob would of picked Dorothy
@@gamingoutlaws9765 Good ideas! I wonder if they just forgot for this video or they weren't doing it yet? All the other vids I've watched they picked one.
@@culpainn4186 yeh who was your favourite character in Valentine
@@gamingoutlaws9765 I didn't really like any of the characters but I like all the actresses playing them, especially Marley Shelton and Jessica Cauffiel.
@@culpainn4186 Yh it’s hilarious to me that I just realised she was Judy 😂but good for her I would love to get a surviving role in a horror film and then she got to live in scream 4 scream 5 she died which was sad tbh. And look at Denise Richard bravo scene 😂 she should of done that in Valentine brava bravo Fu&/ing not killing me lol
I like this movie

I’ve loved this movie since it came out! I’d just turned 9 when it was released so definitely shouldn’t have been watching it but I was into horrors from age 6 I think! I essentially wanted to watch it for David Boreanaz because i was and still am a huge Buffy fan so he was my main attraction to see it. The film has held its own really well though I still watch it every few years and love the cheesy attempt at being 90s whilst over a year into being the 00s and figuring out it’s place 😂 it’s so underrated too I don’t know anyone else personally whos seen it which is insane to me !
Glad to hear there’s more love for it out there. It’s definitely been picking up a well earned cult following.
Of the faculty i know its 2000 but still a rewatch

It is one of Jamie Blanks best and finest work in cinema. When it was first released it received negative reviews which totally confused me but despite that I hold it very close to my heart. The movie was just constructed perfectly from the very beginning to the end. It was such a fun rollercoaster thrill ride. You have a good time with this movie. I'm so happy that Scream Factory Blu-Ray released a Collector's Edition as it's finally getting the recognition and credibility it deserves as critics and audiences are fully understanding and comprehending the interpretation of the story.😍💯👍😎

I love this movie and don't care how bad it is.
I don’t even think it’s bad at all, just very misunderstood.

If you are referring to the car Porsche its actually pronounced like portia. At least in germany where the car is from.
Thanks for clearing this up haha
@@thecherrypicker No problem haha. Nice podcast by the way👍🏻
It's really pronounced por-shuh. We don't say a for e in Germany.
i'm such a hater, i couldn't get into denise richard's bad acting ! i really enjoyed whatever the dorothy character was doing tho ! real odd in the best way
I always wanted to like this film, but it was completely forgettable on first viewing many years ago, and just plain bad on a very recent viewing. For me it’s not nearly as entertaining as Urban Legend or even the MBV remake. Unfortunately I find it painfully boring and the performances cringeworthy. Happy for those who DO find enjoyment in it.
Fair enough
