They should’ve kept one of the Grimm’s versions.
In the one I have the Evil Queen was her actual birth mother- not her stepmother- and she tried to kill Snow White *three times* before she decided to use the apple.
The first was the Huntsman, the second was suffocating her with a corset, and the third was a hair comb that somehow seeping poison into her skull the more Snow used it.
The evil queen was also more clever with her disguises, coming in a new one each time. She even came as a girl about Snow’s age once.
In the end though Snow White wasn’t very forgiving of her mother so she ordered her to be put in red hot iron shoes that she had to dance in until she died. GO SNOW WHITE!!
A dumb person: "But THAT wouldn't be good to show kids. It's toooooo evil and wrong and bad and violent ..." (Goes on and on for hours)
Me (sips my coffe): "You didn't watch the film did you? BECAUSE OF COURSE, showing kids how the dwarves creepily adore Snow White, how she breaks into anothers home and her prince KISSING HER CORPSE isn't bad to show to kids. Just listing this I agrre the Grimm version was better."
treehugger0241 That is true, but that’s also her personal character flaw- being to forgiving and kind. By the end of the story she CLEARLY has moved past it, I mean to punish her own mother like that, she’s certainly grown up a bit.
Zilidea Destiny THANK YOU!!
I think they cut that due to budget and time constraints. Feature length animation was UNHEARD OF, Walt was making this while everyone thought he was crazy for attempting it, not to mention an Austrian nutball stirring up trouble in Europe at the time...
Mr. Snarky true, and while I can forgive that to an extent, it’s no reason to absolutely trash the story and make Snow White look like a complete idiot in her own story.
I kissed a corpse once, my grandma's, to be more exact. In my family it is customary for close relatives to walk to the deceased during the viewing and kiss them softly (or at least to pretend-kiss them). I wouldn't call the experience pleasant but it wasn't that gross either. Still, it was pretty traumatizing because I was a child who was experiencing death of a loved one for the very first time and got forced by adults to kiss the dead grandma. Moral of the story: in some cultures kissing the corpse may be considered as a form of showing respect towards the deceased, but seriously, don't force anyone to do it, children especially.
He literally made out with her
Kissing someone on the lips does not automatically equal "making out". Look at the way he kissed her more closely. It was very brief and quite soft. I would say that the kind of kiss it was is open to interpretation. To me it looks like one of those "politeness kisses" that are quite old-fashioned but still not uncommon where I live. However, I can see how someone from a completely different culture could interpret it as a sexual thing.
Marta Tarasiuk I’ve had to witness multiple of my family members die.
@@theelderscout0314 no shit sherlock, family members die eventually. The point there was that the OP was forced to kiss their dead family member as a part of a tradition and that was the traumatizing experience.
I think it's more of the fact that he just literally walks up to a dead woman he barely knew in the woods and kisses her.
"Why would you kiss a corpse?!"

This is why I like film theories explanation better.
Why not?
Honestly, I kinda prefer one of the original endings better. In that one, the prince sees Snow White and instead of kissing her, he simply takes her coffin to burry her properly in one of his graves, and the movement causes Snow White to wake up.
Why couldn't they keep that ending?
For some reason, Lily's explanation on how a kiss would work makes more sense than shaking someone out of a coma.
Not romantic enough
Somedude Watchintv what’s not romantic about being shaken out of a coma
@@technomancer3373 that's cool but if you put it on some kind of romantic scale it would be a 3 while a kiss would be a 5.
Kisses and sex aren't the greatest romantic gestures in the world. Movies just do that because they're lazy.
"Fairest" actually refers to paleness (in the original story at least), Snow White in the OG tale actually had the skin as white as snow and hair as black as ebony and cheeks as red as blood. Not the best color coordination if you ask me but paleness was REALLY "in" back then.
So they were basically into goths is what youre saying
@@dim4757 I guess so.

Lily, Do It! Snark ALL THE DISNEY MOVIES!!
Lily snarking old Disney movies gives me life.
She needs to do more
@@davidholanda1 ? Didn't she have a sex change?
@dh1 No, she isn't.

Gotta give credit where credit is due. This was the first feature-length animated film ever made, and the animation was the best of the period.
True. But for today’s standards, the movie is very dated. The fact that it’s Disney’s first ever movie is pretty much its only redeeming value.
No, El Apostol (1917) was the first feature-length animated film ever made, and Peludopolis (1931) was the first feature-length animated film with sound. Snow White is the first feature-length animated film in English.
Aren't ya'll being a little hard on Snow White? She's 13 and grew up sheltered as all get out. She's just super naive. The only real thing she did wrong was ignore her gut feeling about the queen in disguise.
Her backstory being consistent with her bland stupid personality doesn’t make her bland stupid personality any less bland and stupid
@@alexmiddleton9390 ~ Shrugs ~ Agree to disagree. She's a kind and caring princess. A little bland but not the worst.
classyfied did you know in the original story the wicked queen was Snow White’s biological mother?
Lily riffing a movie from the 20s and based on a fairy tale where the main character had less agency than the boulder that kills the evil queen?
I love this.
Snow White was released in 1939.
Oops. Think I would know that considering I know when Oswald was made...
1937
Isaac Gleeth Actually was 1937 but close enough
Keep in mind that Snow White's age is 14 years old and this is the early 1900s
More like 1500s.
My preschool had us watch this movie when I was 4. The only thing I got out of it was paranoia towards apples for months.
I remember watching this at preschool too and I remember being terrified and queasy at that queen-to-witch transformation, I hid in the boys toilets throughout the rest of the movie cause of how scared and sick I was.
luckystardoom njeraxivyurielemental I remember doing something similar when that scene happened. I was out of that room like a bat out of Hell!
Jo Eb WHAT KIND OF FUCKED UP SCHOOL DID YOU GO TO?!
You know...Lily's explanation for how true love's kiss could break the spell, it's actually kind of believable. A lot more believable than 'cuz magick.'
I'd love to see a Disney movie pull that 'true love's kiss' stunt these days and actually twist it from the old-school movies, so they realise the main character was awake and panicking because she can't fight him off when he kisses her, so adrenaline was the real hero, not true love, lol. After all, what better way to get adrenaline in your system than a fight-or-flight response from sexual assault.
I mean...as sucky as it is, I know firsthand that you get a lot of adrenaline fighting off something like that.
K9 Pepper yeah, I've done that "science behind the magic" before when a friend asked me how a zombie raised by necromancy could still die from a headshot. It was fun discussing.
I remember finding the relationship between Snow and dwarfs kinda like an uncles and niece thing. Especially with Grumpy. They were the part of the movie I liked. That scene with the queen scared me when younger, just wow.
Ah, Lily snarking at an old Disney movie is an excellent birthday present to wake up to. I'm looking forward to seeing the next one.
oh that's neat, happy belated b-day!! =)
Never mind me I'm just KISSING THE CORPSE OF A WOMAN AT HER FUNERAL.
The original tale was even DARKER. The prince fell in love with her corpse and wanted to take it back to his castle. On the way, the casket was jostled and the apple came out of her throat, reviving her.
I don’t get why people complained about the Black Caldron not having any songs. I mean, it’s actually kind of a good thing when you see what Disney produced before the Little Mermaid.
WHAT ARE YA SELLIN
*WHAT ARE YA BUYIN*
😂i had to pause the video holy crap
“Fucking Moana stared down a lava monster, get on her level!” XD
I don’t think you appreciate what Walt did... this film changed animation and film history. He even sold his car so there was a budget for this. He, his brother Roy, and all the other cast members at the newly named studio risked everything so this movie can happen, show some respect.
Also made, not named. Typo
I’m pretty sure this video was made for shits and giggles- Not to be taken seriously
you know, I don't care if I didn't agree with a few of your points, this was freaking entertaining! 😂
Thanks for making me laugh, I needed that today.
Snow white: break in to a house then tell them what to do, also take an apple from a, possibly crazy, stranger.
Also this movie has some terrifying scenes, at least for young children.
I just realized Doc's glasses are too wide for his eyes. I mean I've watched this movie a hundred times as a kid, but this is the first time I've actually noticed this.
“You were screaming at the logs” that voice was spot on
Huh. Sneaking up on a teenager, attempted murder from the queen and the dwarves, toxic masculinity, an "old" evil woman dying in an accident, and kissing a corpse. I guess when you take a closer look at it, it's not that surprising to see why the Gremlins love this movie.
@@DigeeTheGenie I think he means the gizmo kind.
Craig A. McLeod Gizmo kind.
In the original fairytale, it was basically the Heimlich manoeuvre that saved snow white.
That would have been a great lesson to tell kids, damn you Disney for being so pointless.
Lily tearing apart Snow White with modern day logic
If I’m not mistaken there is a theory that the prince is actually death or the grim reaper. He shows up twice, the first time was when she almost fell down a well, because she was leaning over rather far. The second is when she is dying from the poison apple. It wasn’t a true love kiss, but a kiss of death. After he rode off with her to the afterlife.
I'm sure that wasn't the intent but nice theory. Don't the dwarves react to him?
Somedude Watchintv they do, but I don’t remember how the theory explained that.
I got interested of this theory for I believe this is the first time hearing about this. so, I did a quick search and this is what I got (from a page called bustle. com);
"As for why it's theorized the story shows her dying, the commenter explained that "the prince is supposed to be kind of like an angel of death, basically a happier version of a grim reaper." They note that Snow White first sees the prince when she almost dies by falling into the well, and doesn't seem him again until she is literally on her deathbed. "When you die, the air is expelled from your lungs. Folklore said this was death kissing you to take the 'breath of life' from you," Matt writes.
Then, the nail in the coffin (I know, I'm sorry) comes at the very end when the castle is shown as being up in the clouds and looking all heavenly."
the possible backstory / whom Snow is based on was told and the dwarfs and their diamond mines aswell.
however, it wasn't told how they'd see prince angel of death ( that sounds damn cool title to have xD ).
first I thought 'maybe they all are gifted to see what other people can't?' or maybe it's their pure hearts that lets them see the prince? =O
do share your thoughts, it's always fun to play around with the ideas ^^
edit: wait, here we go with the dwarfs (from cosmopolitan .com) but first, here's some more info about the prince :
"He arrives on a pale white horse (which is what Death was often portrayed riding at the time). He kisses her. The 'kiss of death' is a way people knew someone had passed before they knew about taking pulses. When you die, the air is expelled from your lungs. Folklore said this was death kissing you to take the 'breath of life' from you."
"Per our buddy Matt, "Snow and the Prince say goodbye to the dwarfs rather than bring them along because they're going somewhere the living can't follow. They then ride off to heaven or a heaven-facsimile afterlife, where we see the last shot of the movie: a castle-shaped cloud surrounded by golden light."
ya know, I've realized something, the only Disney's snow white has going for it nowadays is the fact that is was the first disney movie, and that's it
bad touch, stranger danger: the movie
RUclips didn't notify me about a lily orchard video
I'm offended
And now, like 30-60 more movies to go... Good luck!
Despite being something of a coward, I think the huntsman was he real hero
In context Snow White's wish to marry a Prince makes sense since at the time the only way out from under the wicked Queens rule would be marriage.
Every fairy tale would be better if the princesses had mace with them!
Snow White was even stupider in the original tale. The witch tricks her 3 times. (with Poison corset laces, a poison comb, and then the apple)
It would have made more sense If the true loves kiss was just the prince doing CPR
It has begun.
this is going to be a fun series
"That is a great way to get maced right in the eye, bro."
God I love this channel.
good luck on the new project Lily
I like this! More please and thank you!
Classic Brothers Grimm fairy tail. There's love, magic, and fucked up depravity.
“Why can’t doc speak like a normal person?” Buddy I literally do that constantly
The intros, they're killing me. These reviews are killing me, I love these so much omg.
This movie gives naïve girls the false illusion that forest animals will do your housework.
I just found out... according to Haitian Law, Snow White and Aurora from Sleeping Beauty would be zombie princesses as they were put into an immobile state, presumed dead and revived.
That's the only way I could watch these movies now. Cinderella is the only classic Disney princess I can respect. She's a Mexican icon.
I couldn't stop giggling this whole video
reminder that snow white is 14 years old in this movie which makes everything that happens to her so much worse
the apple looks like a fucking tomato I'm wheezing
Yay Disney movies in a minute reviews! ❤️
I haven’t seen this movie in a damn long time. Maybe more than ten years. It was my favorite for a while as a toddler though. But when that forest scene came on I could feel the uneasiness inside myself. I didn’t even realize that scene scared me. Apparently it does because it did when I was three.
I actually used to watch this movie all the time when I was a young child. Some scenes still make me laugh to this day while others make me cringe.
YES A NEW LILY VIDEO
Lily: "Why would you kiss a CORPSE?!"
Sylvanas: *exists*
Lily: "Oh ok..."
Lily I actually love you! I really enjoy your content.
This is going to be a fun ride!
I didn't think this was real at first. I'm happy this exist.
This 'In A Minute' proved that Snow White needed a remake. I like this cartoon but... Yeah...
@@blxssingss I heard so many people saying they'll do a remake of Snow White but instead I see so many other movies that aged better than Snow White. My question is WHYyyy
@@blxssingss I hope they make the dwarves proletariats overthrowing the bougeoirsie now.
I think the right time to make a live action remake for Snow White is around its 100-year anniversary
Well to be fair Snow White has someone trying to kill her so she must be scared
Omg I love this
Disney did kinda do a show called Once Upon a Time with Snow White working to overthrow the queen, but that was only a part of it. It was one of those stories where all the fairy tales share the same universe with each other. The show got old pretty fast. There was even half a season devoted to Frozen characters.
there almost was season 8. yeh, think about that ^^;
thank godless they won't make more, for season 7 was hella weird and confusing, not to mention the child actor (not naming them in case of spoiling) could hardly act but in the end it was an OK way to end the series, I guess.
oh yeah, apparently there's a thing called 'once upon a time in wonderland'. I'm yet to see that, probably not gonna ^^'
I cannot thank you enough lilly for adding "a tisket a tasket I'll put you in a casket" to my vocabulary
This has to be my favourite video ever.
Ok, this was great. Please do more of this.
That Resident Evil merchant joke was great
I laughed way too hard at the mace joke 😂
I love every second of this
Your explanation for true loves kiss makes....TOO MUCH sense.
Love this XD
And mentioning Moana being a bad ass when facing Te Kā? 10/10
Yaaaaaaaay!
Its about faith and feelings not sense and senceability
Beauty is power for old timey ladies you know that
You made my day
You know...in retrospect...why are there so many home invasions in fairy tales?
Do it Lily! Review all the Disney movies!
I found out about your channel today! I love it
I look at the title and it was uploaded 8mins ago
So we’re doing Disney movies now huh? Well this is gonna be good!
I loved this movie
Yeah old Disney was ... something. I would loke to see how you react to the little Mermaid. THAT I would really like to see. Also great idea now doing in a minute for disney, it's nice to finally hear someone point out the fucked up shit instead of "It is an old Classic!"
1:45 SYLVANNAS
You forgot to put a ding sound effect after each remark.
(Also, I can't wait to see you do Peter Pan)
1:44 you’re describing Once Upon a Time, it ruled
Woah you you do Disney movies now?!
AWESOME!!
7:00 I woulda gone with "ya wanna buy some death sticks?" but fair enough
*gasp* Lily! Does this mean you'll cover other Disney movies as well? Please?
I announced the Disney Project months ago
Oops, sorry, I didn't realise. I've only been a subscriber/watcher for little over a month. Again, sorry.
And in the fairy tale, the prince didn't kiss her. He bought the coffin from the dwarves and his servants were moving it when it dropped, forcing her forward and dislodging the apple in her throat.
“Dopey“ would be a good name for a rapper.
In the original story, a true loves kiss didn’t make her wake up. What actually happened is, while he was carrying her to his castle for a “proper burial” he’s men tripped and stumbled on a rock and it. When when they tripped, it Jostled the casket enough to remove the apple out of her through. So what the movie could have done is: he is like “wtf why y’all just staring at her, I’m gonna bury her!” And wile taking it she wakes up and is like “you saved my life I love you” soooo much less creepy. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk!
Now I just need lily to do The Little Mermaid and ill be happy
In the Grimm Brother's version: The Evil Queen was invited to Snow White's Wedding, and was forced to dance in a pair of red hot iron slippers until she Died! Way more gruesome than being crushed by a rock.
It's not a plan it's more of a hopeful dream
That pitch perfect RE:4 merchant at 6:59 had me in stitches!! 😂
The Shadow Queen is basically what you're talking about at 1:50.
I've never seen Moana but that lava monster (from my limited knowledge of the movie and of what you already know) is most likely supposed to be Pele the Hawaiian Goddess of basically all earthly destruction. So not only did she go up against a lava monster, she fought a literal god
The Dutch and German versions of Snow White singing are much lower and much nicer to listen to
"Why would you kiss a corpse?"
Why ask, the prince will always be a creep, if she was dead or not.
My favorite joke was the What's Up Doc? one 5:28
as I child I paid no mind to the pie Snow was making (for it was a dub and ofcourse there were no subs for the English written parts unless they were to be read out loud by whoever), but dear lord did that scene hit hard realizing the pie says 'Grumpy' few years ago when our drama class watched it together. that one shot alone made my heart sink with a sad 'oooh.. no..' - Grumpy must've found or seen the pie at some point.. even though he was acting all tsundere on Snow, I'd be crying bitterly like he did after they discover her lifeless body.. fuck.. ;_;
