Great review, thanks. I was just at a guitar center in Boise Idaho and the sales guy wouldn’t stop trying to sell me a Yamaha USB mixer. I said I was just converting some old audio recordings of people talking. I do not need 24 a bit! This will be perfect.
I plug mine into the USB on an ancient laptop and use the RCA output to connect to my amp. Great for my workshop. I also use an old Galaxy smartphone to shuttle music to the 2tb external drive. I love the old smartphones with Micro SD drives as media players.
These are handy devices to extend the usefulness of an analog mixer coupled to a computer. Also compact and simple if you are mobile on occasion, relying on someone else's PC for some quick audio work because it doesn't need an electrical outlet/external power source or installing specific drivers. I have a decent analog mixer with features I like, bought just before USB mixers became a thing, but it was routed into the computers on board sound which is noticeably hissy on both recording and playback. Spending hundreds of dollars more to replace it just for the sake of USB seemed a shame. I scored an open box UCA-202 at under half retail, still on the shelf, so . . . decision made. The device has been used with Cubase LE 1, LE 5 and Elements 8, plus Goldwave and Audacity. No detection problems. Windows XP & 7. - I patch my mixer's L & R main outs to the UCA's inputs. Individual cables, 1/4" on the mixer end, RCA phono on the UCA end. - UCA's USB into the desktop PC - UCA's RCA phono outputs routed to my desktop speaker system (L & R with a subwoofer) - UCA's headphone jack for headphones (if I need to monitor a microphone source, to avoid feedback) This way it replaces my PC's on board sound for day to day sound/videos from the PC and it's ready to go for recording. To record "what you hear" I use Audacity and keep the Settings: Device - Interface - Host, to Windows WASAPI instead of MME. Sometimes if I switched out of WASAPI, I have to reopen Audacity for it to kick in again. AFAIK, there is no "what you hear" available as a recording option under Windows Control Panel Sound Devices. FWIW I also use a more expensive EMU-0202 on another desktop and this little UCA does everything it does for line level sources. For microphones, I get more gain with an actual mixer than the EMU could give me on its own so you would still need a mic preamplifier or a good mixer if you want to record microphones.
Thanks for that Charlie - that is a great 'real world' example of using the UCA and how to wire it up. I agree with your point that it gives you flexibility to use any mixer, microphone or computer. Also agree that the UCA works well for line inputs compared to other moderate-price A-Ds and if you want/need to go better, you have to spend serious money
I'm trying to find something similar to that, but with 32bit converter...Some USB interfaces from Focusrite, M-Audio and etc do have that but they don't provide RCA, and I need RCA to connect my Xenyx Mixer!
Sorry Felipe I misses this one. Im not quite certain what you are looking at, if you are still looking for an answer please give me an example of a Focusrite or MAudio model that you had looked at
that would go to your monitor systrem (amp and speakers ) if you have them. Please refer to you mixer manual as that will give you the right information.
hello, so I've currently damaged the aux input on my laptop and i was interested in this audio interface as a way to compensate the damage, i produce music. Therefor, i wanted to know what your opinion is on the overall sound quality this interface provides for music production? thanks pete.
This to control audio and voice better than you would in a regular old daw…..you speak into the mic and this little thing inputs it into the computer along with the mixer and preamp…..which you need in order to work this gadget because if you didn’t what would be the point….overall you need all the epuipment in order to fully control and improve your voice audio quality or any sound…..this is just one item in the toolbox
Can I use this as a USB to TOSLINK adapter? am just looking to get USB audio out of my computer to my HiFi which has only analogue and optical in connection! Thank you!
Mine is skipping audio from the source to the output. I have changed everything except the UCA202 and my windows 11 computer and the same problem exists. all three analog sound software sees the problem. The speakers on the UCA202 corectly hear continuous sound.
I have a question, nobody could answer it so far: unfortunately, nobody is doing a video about using this device the other way round. I want a digital-analogue converter, not a analogue-digital converter. Reason: my laptop doesn´t have a line level output, only a headphone level output, which is useless for external recording devices. I want to record music from my laptop onto my tapedeck. Is this device capable of that? Would it work if I´d plug my tapedeck into the line out ports of the device and connect my laptop to the device via the usb port? Thank´s in advance!
Thanks for the reply, yes I just purchased. It works in garageband but doesnt get recognized in logic pro. and also just records everything in one channel. Can you do a video showing how to split the snare, toms, kick etc as a multitrack recorder using the uca222?
Cool, does the live input come through the output rca's to monitor the input live..,,or do you have to use the headphone out to monitor live input....if that makes sense?.
Hi Star Freight. THe UCA only handles the signal going Into your computer, you can use the UCA's headphone socket to monitor what is going in. To listen to your recordings you should use the headphone socket on your computer.
Hi, sir. I'm using that interface with an all-in-one speaker's RCA output, which has integrated wireless microphones, etc., but the interface is not momitoring the input signal (from the speaker); instead, if I connect a mobile phone using a 2x1 cable, it does. Do you know what could be the reason please? Thanks! PD: I switched the direct monitor ON.
Great review. However, I would like to know how to control the volume from the PC. Currently, I cannot lower/increase volume using PC volume control when the USB external card is connected (Behringer ACA202). Thank you.
Thank you for the informative video :) I wonder if the device be used to pass through a digital audio signal from a laptop or phone (via USB) to a Marantz PM 6007 (via Optical), bypassing the UCA202's internal DAC?
Thanks for the video.. In my case where I have 2 turntables connected to an analog mixer and want to record my mixing. Should I choose the 202 or the 222?
Hi I was recommneded to buy the red one UCA 222 but not sure if it will for my piano. I have an electric piano which only hs one source for DC power for piano and the other is headphone aux output (which I guess for headphones to listen too). I want to connect piano to my computer to record my music I play on the piano, can I use the headphone aux output to connect it to piano and connect usb part to computer and just record from computer while I play from piano or it wont work ?
Thank you for info. Nice channel mate. I have a great headphone amp but when i plug it into my PC and then listen to headphones, all of the digital noise comes through because (I think) my amp does not have a DAC. I'm not too good, obviously, at figuring this stuff out for myself, but i am trying to find a cheap solution to this problem so that i can get the most out of my headphones and amp. I will not be using this for a microphone as i am going with a seperate audio interface better suited for a mic. I could be totally lost here but am researching to purchase tomorrow and i am hoping ofor my audio and microphone set ups that i've briefly illustrated here to all be plugged in at the same time and all performing their tasks. please help!
The Behringer stuff is great. I got the UCA222 with the V-Amp 3 and both are fantastic, despite possible plasticness. It makes a great wee audio interface for the iPad too. BTW, your link to the solution to the mono problem isn't on the video.
hi if i want to copy my cd collection from cd player can i used this -PHONO UFO202 Audiophile USB/Audio Interface with Built-in Phono Preamp ? beside vinyl and tape
I'm still having a hard time figuring out if I actually do need this. I have a microphone connected to my non-USB Behringer Xenyx 802, and the main out plugged in to the microphone port on my computer. I followed a video that didn't use a UCA 202, but I can't get the microphone to actually work. Help!
um Im not quite sure .myself. So its a normal mic (not USB) into the 802 mixer - do you get the leds moving on the mixer? if so , that bits working OK if not you need to check how you've connected the mic. Once that is sorted, the output of the mixer goes into the mic input of the camera, - (make sure youve selected external mic on the camera) and it shoudl all work. You only need the UCA if you want to record, say, on your PC
If the monitor switch is on, you get the input audio mixed with the audio from the PC on both the output RCA and headphone output. If the switch is off, just the PC audio.
Sorry no Vincent This only goes analogue to digital. One easy way would be to connect the audio or headphone output of your pc to your cassette recorder.
How's the latency performance on this with or without ASIO? I'm planning to connect my guitar processor to the computer and basically record my ideas and maybe even do house demos. But latency has been my concern for multitracking. Is it any possible to get zero or close?
Hi, I would like to know if the xenyx series use the same converter inside, the usb ones, and if it is the same so is 16bit 48KHz, right? Also, the usb speed of xenyx is still 1.1? Thanks in advance.
This switches from hearing what you are recording from the analogue inputs (off position) for normal recording. If you are overdubbing - say singing along with something you have already recorded, with monitor On you can hear what you are recording and the track you are singing along to, coming back from the computer.
WHilst it is more sensitive, the phono input has a huge bass boost designed for vinyl records, You really need a small mixer or preamp and the standard UCA
Hi Mate, Can we connect the output to a Camcorder audio input that will help record the video without distortion? Not sure if this is a workaround for people to record audio and video separately.
Zack Im not quite sure what setup you're thinking about. Im sure the UCA output is basically passing through the analog input signal, so it wont be much different to connecting your source directly to the camcorder. For separate recording you could go into the UCA from your source and use the digital out to a digital audio recorder and the output to the cam corder. Then when you are editing it is easier to exactly match up the audio to the picture ,
My Question is : 1) Can i connect a microphone ( like my Siberia V2 microphone ) into this USB A.I ? If it possible, how should i set it up ? 2) How to connect my guitar to this USB A.I ? P/S : Sorry for my bad English.
I have a Audio Technica ath-m50x and i was wondering if it would improve the sound quality of my headphones. (I have the UCA 222 just laying around the house) Thanks

it will convert the stereo analogue input to feed a digital unit. . It wont take any signal from the usb on your laptop. I think its worth investigating 'HDMI Audio Extractor' which may do what you want ; google that

I plan on using one of these to plug my computer into my analog mixer, seems that this will be a fabulous solution.
what would you choose for something similar 24 bit / 48 khz?
Which one is better ? This Behringer UFO202 audio interface USB or this Behringer UCA222 USB interface ?
Depends on your usage of it.
@@dremey3152 Great answer.
I don’t know what the difference is between the UCA202 and the UCA222 I just ordered the 222 today. Is there a difference?

Hi Encick.
The UCAs are purely line level so you will need a small mixer or preamp to connect a mic or a guitar to it
Both for the mic and the guitar you need to run them into a small mixer and then into the UCA
I have a Audio Technica ath-m50x and i was wondering if it would improve the sound quality of my headphones. (I have the UCA 222 just laying around the house) Thanks
Not quite certain what you are checking on here Cam, the UCA wont really affect the headphone performance.

Thank you but to clarify, what cables and how many would i need to record the best sound from the Behringer Ultravoice Xm8500 Dynamic mic (its xlr)?
You need an XLR to XLR for the mic. You need a stereo cable to go from the mixer to your recorder. probably an RCA to RCA

Sorry DOSinutil I dont think this will do that, it is only for taking an analogue stereo sound source and feed it into a USB input
I see, but what is the purpose of the optical out port?
it will convert the stereo analogue input to feed a digital unit. . It wont take any signal from the usb on your laptop. I think its worth investigating 'HDMI Audio Extractor' which may do what you want ; google that

Hi Chris
Sorry fornot replying sooner. To connect the MG to the UCA you just need a pair of standard lead with a ¼” jack at one end and the RCA/Phono at the other. Thatwill work fine.
The 200 seems to be an older version possibly without the headphone socket, Id recommend getting the 202/222 online.
