- It's official. Here it is the All New Volkswagen California Ocean, California Beach and California Coast. We have been waiting for the Brand New Campervan from VW to be released officially and it is now here. The new T7 Multivan Campervan. I am very excited (Sorry but I am)
The new camper van has more space, more comfort, more technology and much more.

It has been released on the Multivan platform, it is the T7? There are a wide range of options including for the first time 4motion all wheel drive using a petrol hybrid option.

I bought a VW Transporter T6 Kombi Highline van 140bhp diesel SWB with tailgate.
I have lots more to do though, I have a new electrical system, using Victron components and a Lithium LIFEPO4 battery, so I obviously need to install some power devices. I have a new sound system, with Focal speakers and ibus 2.1 amp, Playstation PS4, which is removable, TV's on headrests.
Lots for me to look forward too and it would be nice to take you on the journey.
Vanlife is amazing, get out and explore, it's a great adventure.

Beds are narrower than the outgoing model, less overall storage and only one burner on the hob. Might work as a day van but I think the 6.1 is more versatile especially if you have a family but I am biased.
I understand your bias, the T6.1 is a great vehicle 😀
Storage is said to be more, with the side storage (opposite to kitchen) and the big unit above on the tailgate (I didn’t show that)
But there is a reduction to some extent due to twin slider.
Not sure why only 1 burner, that puzzles me. It does have an electric hob, but for hookup only.
Will have to see it in the flesh and do a direct comparison.
VW California are great vehicles, but I personally believe that there are conversions that are far superior!

There are definitely pros and cons to both the Cali and conversions, with a lot coming down to the individual users.
I’m keen to see it, as I genuinely really like it.

The jury is out for me on this new iteration of the California. I guess my biggest reservation is that I understand this vehicle is basically the latest version of a Ford Connect. I would need to see some long term reviews on the New California before I would consider it.
No the Ford Connect is the same family as the VW Caddy.
This new California is built on the Multivan platform, which replaced the VW Caravelle. Therefore bugger than the Connect/Caddy.
It's on a VW car-based platform but it's nearly as long as the LWB T6. The transporter replacement is the one that's a joint VW/Ford effort.
Where is the portable potty? What is the tow capacity? Does it run on gas? Cindy I'm a 73 year old Californian native !!
A potty will be comfortably housed somewhere. Will be checking this when I see one. Important to me 🫣
They each have gas hobs and the ocean has gas hob and electric.
The towing capacity wasn’t discussed, however the standard Multivan has won awards for being a good tow car
How can you cheerfully call it bigger when there is clearly less space inside. Exterior bigger means nothing. Less legroom, way smaller beds, less storage, only a 4 seater. I see barely any improvements, but a lot of downgrades.
I think there's an element of sophistry afoot here. VW have designed a camper version that, due to its lack of space, is untenable as a camper, yet it's ME that's missing the point. Hmm, well I think that VW have missed the point, that they're wide of the mark and that they've lost their marbles.

Will be interesting to see how their prices are affected
The problem with this multivan, this from what I see the still knocking off leg grew when the bed is fully down and you've got the front seats turned round. I think the up could be another metre at least. To be able to get change I won't be buying one.
Looks awful on the outside, think VW have dropped the ball
Looks are definitely subjective. This is evidenced in some of the aftermarket styling that some have been furnished with, in that some didn’t like it and then they did.
It’s similar with the current T6 or 6.1 , the first thing some do is put a body kit on it
