What is the hardest race you've ever done?!?
Ben Parkes, this years’ comrades Marathon, running as a novice, was easily the hardest thing I’ve even done in my life. The last 35km absolute broke me. But I #gotitdone and will be running the “down run” in 2020!
Congrats on UTCT. I teared up a little at the end there with you watching this video. Amazing effort! You can definitely hold you head up high after that!
For my own part, Skaala up in Loen, Norway. But you need to come try Stranda Fjord Trail Race on the Western coast of Norway, epic race and scenery just about an hour from where I live :)

Some Saffas (Calitz and Greyling) set the world record for most ascent in a day by going up and down 18x in 20 hours (they were not allowed all 24 due to a covid curfew...)

This actually brought a tear to my eye. I love how open and vulnerable you are in the videos, Ben, always honest about the emotional struggles this sport requires from us. These are my favourite videos of yours Ben. Those ones where you truly have to go deep into the well and see what you've got. I think at the end of it all, all we can ask of ourselves is if we truly lived and gave it our all, and seeing someone live that out by doing something like this is inspiring.
Amazing! This is why we run, when it gets tough it gets interesting, makes the accomplishment so much more rewarding, saying that, that trail looked literally killer so fair play for finishing haha

Wow! Wow! Wow! That was amazing! You truly are a warrior Ben. What an incredible effort! It can really be heard in your voice how much that race tested you and pushed you to your limits but you kept going, and as you say, got it done! A stunning achievement to finish within the cut-off time. And to do so why filming this video to give so many other people an insight into the most difficult of races.
Of all the different types of videos you make and put out, the race videos are the ones I like the most. I get to see a whole host of different races I didn’t even know existed and get a glimpse of what it takes to get through them. This is probably my favourite of all the ones I’ve seen so far, simply because we saw how you overcame the challenges of what you rightly said was a stunning but brutal course.

Loved this video. I was born in Cape Town and lived there for 33 years. So nice to see the trails and places where I used to run. But I've never done them all together in one grueling race. It looked tough! I'm so glad you finished!

Glad you enjoyed the views of my home town :) Fun seeing you in all our local parkrun and hiking routes :) Next time you come to CT keep an eye out for trails in Stellenbosch and Kogelberg nature reserve also very stunning! Hope you come back again soon! Just moved to the Eastern Cape and there are some tough trails here! There is even a 100 mile trail in Addo Elephant National Park if your interested (37h cut-off).

Absolutely inspirational from you Ben. Massive congratulations for finishing it and to Sarah too. Some of the terrain looked absolutely ridiculous to get through. In places it was more like timed mountain climbing rather than trail running. You did well mate, you did well.

CCC had a similar boulder field going into La Flegere and I just fell apart (heat, sun and ran out of water) and timed out at the last AS but I still hold my head high as I didn't train well due to a cross country move to a new job. Similar training to you as I didn't live with lots of mountain climbing until May. Well done and excellent job remaining in the moment to push forward. I always enjoy your videos! Keep up the great work.
