I'm not sure where I found this version of the song, but it's my favorite that I've heard, and I couldn't find it posted on RUclips, so I thought I'd post it myself for those of you unfortunate enough to have never heard it. Lyrics in the video, slightly different than the original music.
I don't own this song, picture, the lyrics or anything. Posted purely for the good of all ears.

One of the great singer-songwriters of our times, too talented for what the LA industry would become, the original is the best - No matter the remixes, they just wouldn't market Depth and Intelligence when they could sell boybands on a leash to pre-teens.
Someday this musical treasure will be lauded, when a new generation does the archaeology and discovers the love of the art of beautiful song writing.
I've seen the Cobain references. I'd like to throw out some Elliott Smith "influence". I do so hesitantly bcuz I don't think I should detract from Brendan Benson's individuality. I'm just reminded of Elliott when I hear this. Hope you're still at it in 2020 Brendan. Thank you for your music!
Yesss!!! So glad to find this version. This was the original version of this song I got to know and love, then lost the mp3 after hard drive crashes. Hadn’t thought about this in nearly 20 years (oh god has it been that long)!

The crazy thing this is the version that is on the original release of the album. Over the years I lost both my physical music collection and all of my digital rips, so I no longer have this version anywhere. Sadly this upload seems to be a pretty low quality rip, compared to the one I made. Still searching for a high quality rip. This is by far the best version of this song (and there are many, many versions out there). Best guitar and best vocals. Crazy that he seems to favor the others.

I accidentally got to know this as the original version and would only get to listen to the real one while watching the clip on MTV. Later, a friend of mine told me this is from an ep with other versions to 'Metarie'. Well, I prefer this one. Thanks a lot for posting.

This is the version that's on the 2011 vinyl version of Lapalco. Sadly, I prefer the version on spotify and would rather that on my rare lapalco record lol
I love this. The entire affect of this song reminds me of the 1970's and White Star and sunshine. ❤

No problem, man. I love vinyl hunting myself, but getting a good, clean rip of the song is difficult sometimes. Especially when it's not available to buy anywhere. If it can't be found anywhere to buy, I don't see much harm in sharing it.
That's the thing. There are a bunch of songs that don't seem to be available for purchase.

I had the album from iTunes as well as the Metarie EP with the other two. I just got the vinyl and heard this. I love this version. But I want it digitally for my iPhone
I went ahead and added a Dropbox link to the song at the bottom of the description for you. I wouldn't have a clue where to get this version if I didn't somehow find it on an old CD someone gave me.
