It’s 30 cals for a POPPED cup in Skinny Pop, so the whole bag is 75 cals. They fly out like a machine gun and when they fly they go far so I have to hold a paper towel in front. It may be a fire hazard, but it’s my fire hazard. And I just get basic popcorn kernels. My roomates love it.
I as well have my mom's air popper from the 80s. That thing *will not die*. It will make popcorn far into my Adulthood. It will make popcorn for my grandchildren. It will probably still be making popcorn when I am long gone.
Oh God, the clocks being off drives me nuts too. My wife thinks I'm weird cause I will sit there and try to get them perfect within a second or two lol
I love that Scott evolved into his final form: super dad who will talk your ears off about popcorn because “the SCIENCE KID! The gosh darn pop corn science!”
My highly scientific (4th graders almost 20 years ago) study concluded that Orville was telling the truth. It had the largest corn size and least amount of unpopped kernels. I've held onto that ever since and have put faith in the redenbacher as my go to microwave popcorn snack.
Straight up I would ABSOLUTELY be behind you doing a few of these throughout the year---or even just one or two because all of them are really heckin' fun!!! I think focusing on things/topics that are rather mundane and doing this "complex" insight into stuff that is just inconsequential in the grand scheme of things and that light-hearted fixation is just...fun, dude. This series is something I just feel like we all need right now---So keep on doing these until you yourself no longer find fun in them and I don't think anyone would argue over you doing more of this series.
Please keep making this series. I love the comparison of at home brands in a scientific and professional laboratory. Thank you for doing the research for all of us.
Technology Connections has a great video explaining why popcorn packaging often tells you not to use the microwave's popcorn button and how some microwaves sense poppedness - it's fascinating!
I just commented about that too, then was like, I bet hundreds of people have already commented that, but I haven’t seen as many people mention it as I thought I would.
Love the easter eggs to the cramer games with you guys wearing the old and what appears to be new shirt. Fingers crossed that this will be the next video!
When my sister was in like 4th grade her science fair project was basically this lol making a shit ton of different brands of popcorn, counting how many pieces popped and how many unpopped kernels were left, figuring out the percentages of unpopped, calculating which one you get the most out of for its price, etc. This was like 1994 lol but at the time Pop Secret ended up being the head honcho. Also you couldn't order things online back then so it was, like this, just whatever brands they sold at our local stores lol I loved it bc there was popcorn at all times for days and I didn't have to do any of the work 😂 Edit: damn looks like pop secret is still on top lol noice
Feel like this could be a food theory. - does the popcorn button matter - different “hacks” to make them pop all the kernels such as freezing the bag. Etc.
Technology Connections has a good video on it. Basically the bags say don't use the popcorn button because sometimes the popcorn button just sets a preset time and sometimes the popcorn button uses actual sensors in the microwave, and they don't know what your microwave can do.
*Hungrily Licks the bag* "If you all were dipped in oil and covered in butter, I think that you would be the biggest, fluffiest popcorn that there is." LOL! 🤣🤣🤣
I love how Scott literally never talks about stuff that stresses me out. Like I love video essays about politics and civil rights and social issues, but sometimes I just need a completely inconsequential video.

I love that you did this video, i just recently discovered the craziness that is popcorn calories and how freaking confusing they are! Im glad to know im not alone!
10:50 i FREAKING KNEW IT!! Skinny pop is literally the same as regular pop corn, I never looked into why it was called skinny but every time i ate it, i was like this is literally the same but probably a little less butter and salt. THANK YOU!

Weirdest freaking thing. I just made a bag in the microwave and was frustrated because I can never get the timing right. Either burning it or not getting enough kernels to pop.
I was having that issue so I started writing the times down and slowly figured out the time I needed for it to be the perfect pop. Just sucks if you ever have to replace the microwave, or switch brands cuz then it’s meaningless lol
As a European this video has opened a new world. How many brands of popcorn do you guys have ?? BUTTER is the “standard” flavor??? You guys have a popcorn button on your microwave? Wdym 😭
Many many brands and flavors! I Butter/salty being srandard, and then maybe kettle corn (sweet) coming in second. Then there's also the unflavored kernels for stove-top or air-popping. And pre-popped popcorn in bags. I would also remember corn is literally from North America, so it's a native food/really important part of our diet. Also it's just normal in the US to have WAY too much variety of one thing, cereal being the prime example. Grocery stores literally have an aisle (or one side of an aisle) dedicated to cereal here. I lived abroad for a while and American grocery stores were really back overwhelming when I came back! Like, why does one need to choose between so many options?
In Brazil we also use butter as "the standard", and ALL microwaves have the popcorn button (didn't know this wasn't a thing outside of the continent!). About the brands I don't know, never paid attention hahaha, but at least 5/6
@@themischief420 i'm canadian and we have like half of one side of the aisle for cereal and mayyyybe a third of the selection.... pretty sure the US is more dedicated to sugary cereals than any where else. be proud!
"I'm not in my own kitchen today" Imagine being his friends and recieving a message that says "Hey hum, i'm doing a video about pop-corn, can i borrow your kitchen real quick ?"
After last year’s chewing gum takedown and this year’s exposé on popcorn, can’t wait to see what big snack industry Scott will tackle next. Will it be pretzels? Gummy bears maybe? Possible be the humble potato chip? Perhaps a turn into the world of drinks with the bottled water industry or even the powdered drink mix monoliths.

I as well have my mom's air popper from the 80s. That thing *will not die*. It will make popcorn far into my Adulthood. It will make popcorn for my grandchildren. It will probably still be making popcorn when I am long gone.
please scott don’t retire this series it brings so much joy🥺
Oh God, the clocks being off drives me nuts too. My wife thinks I'm weird cause I will sit there and try to get them perfect within a second or two lol
I just try to set mine ambidextrously. It's one of the only same things I can do with both hands 😏😆
The way I actually got chills when Scott describes how cozy the act 2 popcorn was
I love that Scott evolved into his final form: super dad who will talk your ears off about popcorn because “the SCIENCE KID! The gosh darn pop corn science!”
You are so good at explaining what you are experiencing. Like a really good story teller as well
My highly scientific (4th graders almost 20 years ago) study concluded that Orville was telling the truth. It had the largest corn size and least amount of unpopped kernels. I've held onto that ever since and have put faith in the redenbacher as my go to microwave popcorn snack.
These are some of my favorite type of Scott videos
Okay but oddly comforting knowing I'm not the only one that rips open and licks the popcorn bag 😂
I love that scott has such random video ideas
"LEGALLY BINDING, MONTHS AGO, LONG BEFORE ANYONE MENTIONED HITLER'S GHOST BEING SUPER CHILL."
I gotcha, Scott.
What?
Scott, this is your best series, never stop it.
This series will never get old for me. I love watching you expose different industries!
Scott, you’re one of the few people in the world that can keep me entertained while cooking microwave popcorn
Technology Connections has a great video explaining why popcorn packaging often tells you not to use the microwave's popcorn button and how some microwaves sense poppedness - it's fascinating!
Immediately came to the comments looking for the Technology Connections reference!!
I also came here to see who else was gonna make a Technology Connections Popcorn Button comment! 😂
I just commented about that too, then was like, I bet hundreds of people have already commented that, but I haven’t seen as many people mention it as I thought I would.
Yeah, if you have a microwave with actual sensors, they do a great job popping bags of popcorn
Came here looking for people talking about Technology Connections. Check that video out people!
Hello Cramer. I just wanted to add that adding all the popcorn logos in the bottom-left was a nice touch.
11:21 “skinny pop? more like skinny flop.” was right there
This series is amazing and definitely is not overstaying its welcome! I look forward to every entry of this series
I did not expect to learn about Skinny Pop today but here we are. There needs to be more discussion over the intentional misleading marketing. 😅
this series will never overstay its welcome, i could watch you compare literally anything lmao
Love the easter eggs to the cramer games with you guys wearing the old and what appears to be new shirt. Fingers crossed that this will be the next video!
This style of @scottcramer videos is my absolute favorite! Please just review all products, ever made!
Also you couldn't order things online back then so it was, like this, just whatever brands they sold at our local stores lol I loved it bc there was popcorn at all times for days and I didn't have to do any of the work 😂
Edit: damn looks like pop secret is still on top lol noice
So happy this series is back, i love these videos
Feel like this could be a food theory.
- does the popcorn button matter
- different “hacks” to make them pop all the kernels such as freezing the bag. Etc.
The first one actually was done.
Technology Connections has a good video on it. Basically the bags say don't use the popcorn button because sometimes the popcorn button just sets a preset time and sometimes the popcorn button uses actual sensors in the microwave, and they don't know what your microwave can do.
Food theory had a popcorn video recently. Check your wattage on the microwave!
some of the popcorn brands even recommend that you NOT use the popcorn button because it’ll always undercook the popcorn
@@frb5237came here to post this comment. Great video
I genuinely really enjoy this series of exposing. Feel free to make more if you feel up to it. I'm sure myself and many others will keep watching.
*Hungrily Licks the bag* "If you all were dipped in oil and covered in butter, I think that you would be the biggest, fluffiest popcorn that there is." LOL! 🤣🤣🤣
Everytime a new Scott Cramer video drops my day is 100x better
I didn't start the vid yet but my family grows popcorn for seed
Yay I grew popcorn last year, hulless Japanese variety bit smaller popcorn once popped but delicious.
I got the seed from Annie's heirloom,
Are you part of Big popcorn then?!
@@akosszabo6835 very small still family owned... But yeah sure haha
You mean corn, then? Lol
Popcorn is the snack, lol
The note for Austin at the end.... my heart. You're a good dude, Scott. Wishing the best for you Austin!!
I dunno why, but now I have de urge to pop myself some popcorn. Damn you Scott, you win again :(
Those leftover Black Jewell kernels look tasty. I love munching on the barley-popped kernels.
you literally posted this at the perfect time i literally made and ate breakfast throughout the whole video and now i want popcorn
I love how Scott literally never talks about stuff that stresses me out. Like I love video essays about politics and civil rights and social issues, but sometimes I just need a completely inconsequential video.
As someone who loves but may be allergic to some microwave popcorn ingredients, this was strangely cathartic 🤣
no huffing it!
@@goldensloth7 But it's SO FLUFFY AND YELLOW AND BUTTERY 😭
Love the “exposing the _______ industry”
Keep them going Scott!
I am so happy to see someone else who enjoys ripping and licking the bag. I do it everytime! Not all of it, just a little 😂 the salty butter is so irresistible.
Never end this series!!!
My mom also likes licking the butter from the bag, but she scrapes it out with her fingers rather than ripping the back open.
thats what us fancy folk do. or a spoon!
I've always wanted to do that but I never had a personal bag.... Until now
I love that you did this video, i just recently discovered the craziness that is popcorn calories and how freaking confusing they are! Im glad to know im not alone!
10:50 i FREAKING KNEW IT!! Skinny pop is literally the same as regular pop corn, I never looked into why it was called skinny but every time i ate it, i was like this is literally the same but probably a little less butter and salt. THANK YOU!
Scott, I just want to say thank you. As someone with a boatload of mental health disorders and is going through a lot of shitty situations at the moment, your channel remains one of the safest places in the world to me. We’re from very different places with very different cultures but your cozy and positive vibes are transcendent. Thank you for making me feel like the smallest things are worth living for. You will forever be one of my favorite people on this planet.
Weirdest freaking thing. I just made a bag in the microwave and was frustrated because I can never get the timing right. Either burning it or not getting enough kernels to pop.
The tip is to wait until the time between pops is a second. I feel like that made Scott's kernel rating a little erratic 😂
I was having that issue so I started writing the times down and slowly figured out the time I needed for it to be the perfect pop. Just sucks if you ever have to replace the microwave, or switch brands cuz then it’s meaningless lol
I love that he used Bo Burnham's "Microwave Popcorn" song at the end of the video. The song is such a bop.
About the brands I don't know, never paid attention hahaha, but at least 5/6
we have a popcorn button and are told not to use it on the popcorn box instructions 😭
@@mekko902cereal aisles are so common in most decent size shops, lmao why are you making it sound like it's only in America
@@themischief420 i'm canadian and we have like half of one side of the aisle for cereal and mayyyybe a third of the selection.... pretty sure the US is more dedicated to sugary cereals than any where else. be proud!
I could not have done my dishes without you. Thanks, Scott.
With the amount of kerns left in microwave popcorn, I am a forever airpop popcorn person.
Never stop the 'Exposing' series Scott... please... I need it. Need it.
"I'm not in my own kitchen today"
Imagine being his friends and recieving a message that says "Hey hum, i'm doing a video about pop-corn, can i borrow your kitchen real quick ?"
In the video, he said it was his sister's place. She's probably used to his antics lol
idk if it would be a curse or a blessing to be his sibling aha
After last year’s chewing gum takedown and this year’s exposé on popcorn, can’t wait to see what big snack industry Scott will tackle next.
Will it be pretzels? Gummy bears maybe? Possible be the humble potato chip? Perhaps a turn into the world of drinks with the bottled water industry or even the powdered drink mix monoliths.
