ahhhh.. you had me at "choosing paths that make me happier" soo.. what i'm about to tell you is going to be a bit long winded. but since you have figured out the basics of "life" maybe i can help you get the rest of the way in a short but helpful diatribe. so here goes. in the grander scheme of the cosmos life is absolutely meaningless unless we as a species make it our goal to make it to the end of the cosmos. huge commitment. but if you think about it, by that standard making our known life forms a two planet collective is super important. and anything working towards that end is important and meaningful. thats the large scale thinking of life. on to the small scale of life and the hardest to understand. you and every living being are sex organs with supporting systems. your heart brain skin blood muscles exist so that you can pass on your genes. that is the goal of every living thing. grass grows for what purpose? to make more grass. that means every cell in a blade of grass exists for one purpose.. to make more grass. every cell in your body exists for that same purpose. yes some bodies are not capable to pass on genetics naturally. but that is an aberration of nature and i'm not including aberrations. so that is the purpose of life and of you if you are built to pass on your genes. you can of course abstain from passing on your genes. it is the main thing that sets us apart from animals. choice to pass genes on or to not do so. next, if all of our cells have the purpose of passing on our genes, how do we do that. by how, i mean what fundamental psychological requirement has to be present in order for us to be successful at passing on our genes? that answer is selfish desires. our bodies require food, water, and social attachments to be successful at passing on our genes. the significance of this is that every living being is fundamentally selfish and seeking to satisfy it's desires. more sun more water more nutrients. what are your selfish desires. more sun more water more nutrients and social attachments. humans and some animals also desire fun and excitement. how this effects you. you now know what your fundamental purpose is and you know your mode of operation. purpose = pass on genes. mode of operation = satisfy desires. it is said that there is no such thing as selflessness except in foxholes. giving up your life to save others is pretty selfless especially if you believe that there is only this life and nothingness after. some people add that parenting is also selfless however i would argue that social attachments play a huge role in how a parent parents. what would people think if you were a bad parent. what would your child think if you were a bad parent? but for some the need to pass on genes includes raising them to be well adjusted adults to have the best chances of successfully passing on their genes. so jury is still out for me as to wether parenting is 100% selfless or if selfish desire plays a significant to 100% roll. either way from the moment we wake until the next moment we wake we(our bodies) are seeking to satisfy selfish desires even when we give. why do we give? it makes us feel good to make others feel good. or there may be a social pressure to do something. existence is all about satisfying your selfish desires and sometimes it means we satisfy someone elses selfish desires. sadly some beings lack self control and defy social contracts to the misery of someone else. how to use this information. if you are an individual whos purpose is to pass on genes whether you do or not and your mode of operation is to satisfy your desires then when you are interacting with another individual, they are also operating the same way. for the rest of your life, when you are talking with someone, you have the ability to identify what their selfish desire is at that moment. sometimes its recognition or validation. sometimes is company. sometimes its material. what you want to do is find people that place a value on your existence in their life. and as you clearly stated "choose paths that make me happier". it's that simple to do human. it's that simple to view all life. it's like a switch gets flipped when you have that moment of understanding. go stand in the woods or on grass in a park and look around at all the selfish behaviors going on. it's like a moment of belonging before the rat race comes crashing back on you. you belong because without you even knowing it, you have been acting like a blade of grass and didn't even know it. you can identify with every microbe and wormy thing in existence. what to do now? go satisfy your selfish desires including the selfish desire to coexist with others. make sure that you demonstrate that you place a value on other peoples existence in your life and are genuinely grateful for the value that others have placed on your existence in their life. and the ones that do the same, ya, keep them around. I wish you the best your life has to offer. Yay for shrooms! Yay for your personal growth! a good reply to this would be "thank you for existing"
Ok, life is meaningless only if you have no goals, no dreams, no desires, no energy to put into making life the kind of life you want. At that point you simply exist and give nothing back to society. Life has meaning if even you only touch one life in a positive way. Do something nice for someone that you don't know for no reason every single day. Your life has meaning if you inspire even just one person to not commit suicide, become a better person, or simply give them your time. You are so young and I cannot expect you to understand this fully at your age but given time you will look back at my comment hopefully and get it.
Interesting to come across your video and title... ..... I think ....... Life is meaningless because we assign meaning to everything. ..... What if you assigned new meaning to previously meaningless things ...... like ..... Bodies are for communication of eternal permanent universal truths. Check out a course in miracles. :) Enjoy the ride Jen, nice to meet you.
Very interesting, the book a course in miracles keeps popping up into my life. I’m going to give it a read. I love this idea of signing new meaning to things. Life is whatever we want it to mean
glad to be the first viewer, amazing!
