Alright, I’m curious. Has anyone made a mod for this game that FIXES the gameplay aspect? Ex: better controller mapping (not making all the buttons do the same thing), better allocation of action (for instance, 14:06 - as I said earlier about button mapping, all suits are allowed to jump via. button X for instance, Square is extension ability, and another one - say triangle - does the suit changes), better and improved actions for each suit (a.k.a. For the telepotter suit, you enter into a thing where you can choose where on the map you want to teleport and you can teleport there, but only in places you’ve been before), better variety, better level design that works for each suit, making the bosses more challenging, REALLY revamping the story and cutscenes, etc. Things to make the game better: for each suit, integrate level design where you cleverly use each suit…but given the 80 number….that number needs to be limited by a lot. If it can’t be done, limit the number of suits. Suits that are unnecessary, get rid of them. Ex: for the fox-box suit, have it be one where when you turn into a box, you become unnoticed by any enemies as you go through the level, and the level design associated with this is one where stealth is necessary. Essentially, this game needs to be revamped…very much. The game has potential. I just wonder if anyone is willing to bring it to that level. There is a LOT of ambition put in place, but it is poorly executed. ...Yep, this game needs SERIOUS revamping. …every minute I watch this, I lose my mind more and more… Summary: “I’ve been having these weird thoughts lately. I do not believe for a moment that this game was bad because of troubled development when you have outfits that remove jumping and outfits that don't remove jumping but have the power just activate randomly. That's not "troubled development" it's like someone making sushi with hotdog meat. It was always a bad idea. You know the one way you can make the game better? Just by default. Button A: Jump Button B: Do suit power It wasn't troubled development. As bad as square has been lately, don't believe Yuji Naka, he's just embarassed that his game is garbage and wants to shift blame.

The game aesthetically looks beautiful. I’d imagine it could’ve been a fantastic game for kids but they totally screwed up the character animations and gameplay mechanics. There are just a lot of inconveniences built into the gameplay. I score it a 3.5/10
And yet the terrible animations and lack of dialogue of Badlan Garbageworld is nothing to the atrocity that is the “Quiet Man” no sound for most of the game and then playing the game a second time with awful dialogue.

The worst thing about Balan Wonderworld is during the second stage of the final boss, it causes people to have epilepsies! Square Enix didn't bother to fix the problem, and instead expects people to install a day 1 patch that can prevent it from happening!
Still wish this game didn’t turn out the way it did. Watching Austin Eruption’s video talking about what could have been from the development problems behind the scenes to the actual story being chopped off and put into a novel, this game could have been so much more interesting. The fact that it’s more boring than anything is a crying shame. And like some people already said, the fact Square had more faith/marketing for this than NTWEWY (both came out the same year) is disheartening to say the least.

I was so hyped to play this game, since it looked like a new gen version of nights into dreams, when I played it I was disappointed as hell, I love most of Yuji Naka's games, the cgi cgi cutscenes look so good and made me want to play the game, as a Sonic and Nights fan it was a slap in the face, the ps2/pc port of nights into dreams is what wonderworld should of been, the ps2/pc port of nights just plays better and cost less and is worth the money :D
The game had such potential, but it just didn't meet that potential. As for the collectibles, the gems are to help raise those cute little mascots in a way similar to Chao's. By getting to the highest level, you unlock a specific outfit that makes the game easy to traverse via full on flight. While the statues are to unlock I think both the levels and the true ending. I think? I only vaguely recall things.
this is shameful for Sqex's library. They should have a higher bar for quality. And if it sucks, just cancel it. This is inexplicable that they still released this.

I don’t understand what they were thinking. Okay, yes, simple control scheme. But what about two buttons instead of just one? Even just one additional button would make the game so much better to play, and the control would still be simple.
Y’know, this doesn’t seem to be a very well known fact, but have you noticed that this game is actually pseudo randomly generated? You pointed out several problems such as samey environments, costumes not giving use cases for them right away, and the weirdness of them requiring keys to be picked up, but keys almost always being directly next to the costume itself. If it seems like the levels literally aren’t being designed by a human with common sense at all, it’s because it isn’t. Oh, and i almost forgot, how you disliked how all those hidden rooms only had a few shitty drops, yet another consequence of the randomness. My guess is they made it this way because they thought it would give more play time, and it would let you farm those things infinitely. Issue is it kinda sucks
They could have made this game good if the concept was to mix the powers like Kirby64. Mix the spin and stretching plant power to stretch up, then spin uppercut to reach higher areas. Mix the strong power with the dragon power to grab things and heat them up to do various things. Like pick up a bomb and light it, grab a chunk of earth and heat it up into lava, something. Fucking anything besides this shit.
I like a number of aspects to the game, but it's just... not meeting the expectations had for the game. A number of mistakes were made. The outfit and level design appearance wise is interesting, especially the bosses. But, the gameplay needed to be fleshed out, noticeably so.

Nah man, the dance scenes are the only fun thing here. As a dancer myself I do see some actual moves (like some ballet for dolphin girl). Unfortunately they’re so slow even though they’re well animated it’s… bleh. Also the cartoony style with the big hands is REALLY not doing it any favors, especially when they don’t…. Do anything with that cartoony style you can’t do in real life?? My point is these are hilarious sequences that are SO FUN to pick apart.
to be fair, the original super mario brothers told you nothing about the game's world and story via the game itself. you learned all that stuff through the game manual. so by game standards of 40 years ago, this is about right on the spot ^_^

I garente that there are people out there that can make a much better version of Balan Wonderworld or write a better story for it.

Kingdom Hearts had a baby with Sonic or Mario (not sure which is the father) and took to smoking and drinking while pregnant.
So from what I know, not sure if anyone had said it before, but a lot more story content was only available in the book that was sold separately.

and the way you reset the levels is by beating the boss over and over.
If the devs could've just made Balan the protagonist instead of those two kids who were more bland than a underseasoned and unmarinated chicken, and actually *listen* to the director's vision instead of doing whatever the f🦆 they want, it would've been a genuinely good game.
I garente that there are people out there that can make a much better version of Balan Wonderworld or write a better story for it.
Playing this game gave me MASSIVE Ni No kuni vibes.

Tbh…the pfps of the costumes look awesome. Everything else should die. Make a game about/with those designs
I'd buy this if they release an ultimate edition or director's cut or whatever, as long as they fix the issues and make it a better game. Visually the game is incredible but technically it flops real fast!

They fired the dude who you said was troubling to work with and that is why it is crap of a game. No time to work with the glitches no time to work with the garbage gameplay and no time to make tweaks to fix any product game bugs.
