You are right, this is a good case of Landscape Archeology and you did a good job of finding and restoring the design features. That was nice work. Would guess that power washing would take the blackened paving towards bright and setting the yard up for a restart. Someone had put a lot of thought into that yard at one time.

It's not just about cutting the grass. It's about doing something nice for someone who is struggling so he wants it to look good too. Sometimes people just need a clean slate so they can start over. Gardens are much easier to keep in shape once they're under control. For whatever reason this garden was beyond what the owner could manage themselves. As someone who struggles in many ways this is so much more than a mowed lawn. It's someone doing something for you just because they want to help. That's a rare thing in this world today.

Another A-1 job Sean! This lawn went from jungle to jewel in double quick time. I know the homeowner had to be thrilled with your results. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Wow! My arms would’ve been like jello after whipping that yard! - awesome job! I would’ve wanted to dump chlorine in that pool 😂- watching from Lake Wales, Florida
