Quick follow-up: Took mine apart today based on your teardown advice, cleaned it up as per, re-assembled ...and it's working like new! Totally renewed my love for the Harmony One. Thanks again, couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks so much for this video, hugely informative (and entertaining too!). After watching this, I'm now feeling brave enough to open mine up this afternoon... Cheers.

Ward Well done informative video, thanks for taking the time to share.
I missed your Blue Danube theme song. The magnetic mat is a neat accessory for an electronics bench, I'm going to send one to a friend as a Christmas gift. The complexity of the Logitech remote control defies the rule of keep it simple. I wonder if we Americans would lose weight if we return to the days before remote controls.

We'd probably have more children so we could order them across the room to change the channel! :)

Thanks for the video, just stripped my Harmony one down as I was having to press down quite hard on some of the buttons and I found all the contacts looked fine but gave them a clean anyway, but I think the issue is more that the bottom of the rubber buttons that press on the metal domes are actually slightly worn/compressed so what I did was put a couple of layers of kaptan tape over the domes before I reassembled it and it's now like new 👍

Oh that's clever. Is there nothing kaptan tape can't do? :)

Last week, I was lucky enough to score a brand new sealed in box Harmony One remote for only $60 along with 3 other items from an online auction site. The only things wrong were the battery (white label) was flat but charged up fine and the soft feel plastic was tacky (isopropyl alcohol cleaned that up). A nice addiction to my two 350 remotes.

Hey, thanks for the very informative video. I know what to do now... 🧐. Would you be so kind as to list the materials and tools used in the description of the video? A link to where to find it would be great. You also use something to put on your head with light and lenses ... are you happy with it? Where can you find such a thing? Any info is welcome and I would greatly appreciate it. I'm from Belgium so I'll probably have to look out for a European alternative .. but I'll see...

It's a Donegon Optivisor with a 2.75x lens (I think), with a Donegon LP1 OptiLOUPE and Quasar LED lighting system for Optivisor. I love it, and, at my unfortunate age, it is indispensable.
The lighting system comes with a crappy battery box which I have modified by making the leads longer so it can stick on the headband and not on the visor itself.
Is there anything specific I used you want to know about?

Maybe you should have just took your screen off of your old one and put it on that one. Much easier Maybe if it was just the cable that was torn. Are these things still working because I have mine and it will not be recognized by Windows 10.

Not a bad idea -- just didn't occur to me!
I actually keep an old Mac here running Mojave JUST so I can run the crappy Logitech app. Recent purchases have not been in the online DB, so have resorted to learning each function from new remotes with the IR port.

@@WardCo thanks I didn't know you can teach the remote from the IR Port without the app. Maybe you can make a video on how to do that.

I own three of these and just bought another used one for $38 from Ebay for my Dad. His 510 is very worn. The activities button is very hard to press down initially and then after I exercise it a few times the button doesn't stick as much but still feels like it's gunked up. Do you think soaking a qtip with rubbing alcohol and letting a little get into the button edges would be safe enough to maybe break up any sticky. I would leave the battery out while doing this. Opinions?

Probably won't hurt to try alcohol, but you should use 99% if you do. I suspect it won't help much because whatever is binding up is probably BELOW the rubber keypad and the alcohol won't get past the backing on that -- but, hey, you never know -- maybe it is just a bunch of gunk binding to the hole in the plastic.

@@WardCo Yeah I tried last night and then turned it button side down to dry. Tried it this morning and there was an initial catch but seemed to move better. It was already delivered to my Dad today and time will tell how it does.
Is there any good modern replacements to these discontinued remotes? Harmony One was always my favorite back when I would sell them and configure them in home. I prefer physical buttons and a customizable screen like the One.
