Agree. I think evolution in style of play is occurring. Swiatek French 2020 & Andreescu USO 2019 come to mind as having ridden forehand supremacy to the titles.

What about Henin (yeah, known more for her great OHBH)... Had an ATP style snappy swing with good amount of racquet lag transformed into speed.
edit. A comment from a Henin slowmo FH and BH video: _"Christophe Delavaut has pointed out that the technique of her forehand is identical to the forehands of most top male pros (Federer, Djokovic, to some extent Nadal) and very different from the power women players like Sharapova, Williams sisters, and Azarenka."_

Serena has a good forehand- for the first 3 she hits...if you make her hit 4 in a row (like Kerber & Halep did in the Wimbledon finals), her point of contact radically changes and her follow through looks like she falling off a cliff- 9/10 she hits this shot into the bottom of the or 10 feet out.

Ashley Barty has one of the best forehand and serve. She has a very deceptive forehand which has the power and the angles. She can hit the forehand with inside out and inside in like Steffi Graf's forehand.

  • @ytangel7263
    @ytangel7263 10 месяцев назад

There is no doubt that Steffi Graf has the greatest forehand ever! Her powerful forehand combined with her accurate shotmaking and her athleticism, speed, and footwork, makes her powerful forehand the preeminent feared tennis weapon in history.
I’ve read some discussions about Steffi Graf’s forehand and I would like to share my thoughts and insights. To the average eye, her powerful forehand may look different or late but her technique is world class! Her racquet starting position starts somewhat high like Juan Martin Del Potro. Her swing, though it starts a bit late, is so fast that her point of contact is exquisite with the ball right in the center of the racquet. Her follow through is lightning quick and typically winds up over her shoulder but varies depending on the shot she wants to execute. Her forehand flow is so synchronized with her athleticism that it’s amazing to witness.
Sure there are players today that can hit powerful forehands but not with the same athleticism, speed, and grace that Steffi possessed, and as long as they can reach their opponents shot which is they key difference when comparing Steffi vs past/present players. I’ve seen so many matches where Steffi blasts a forehand winner running/defending against another powerful and/or angled shot or difficult volley. Yet when I see current or even past players hit their powerful forehands against similar points, they are scrambling for dear life, footwork and reflexes lacking, arms and racquets flailing in every direction, and yes some hit it back but honestly, it’s just not a good look.
If Steffi was born in the 2000’s and competing in this era with current racquet technology, her forehand would be even a more powerful and feared version, and it was still extremely powerful in her era.
Steffi Graf’s forehand is the greatest of all time!!!

Over 20 years ago a guy on the men's pro tour lagged on the forehand and shortly thereafter the entire tour lagged. With the women you had Henin and Stosur. Lagging requires a relaxed wrist and timing, not strength and increases racquet speed. Compare the women mentioned in the video to Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic forehands. Not sure why more women do the ATP forehand.

@ Tennis Channel ; These women, Martina & Lindsey are both qualified, however, it seems they are lacking some view, perspective and perception or leaving out some information, people for some reason and direction .
The description Martina gives about Serena's forehand is very good and accurate.
Now, if We use that description combined with the description about the other two, who else is not in the description?!
#1 is Naomi Osaka. Everything Serena has discussed and more. She 'takes', hits the ball more on the rise than Serena and any other player. She created angles more easily from the center of the court, to the side. She moves well, quick and fast. She hits both cross-court and down-the-line for winners, and switches the direction well too. She does not need to run around her forehand, since her backhand also is so good and hits winners similarly to her forehand.
See how Naomi takes away time from every player; Serena, Petra, Sloane, Madison, Julia, Karolina, Simona, Angelique, Aryna, etc.
Also look at Naomi's forehand stoke. Her form and technique is much more similar to Juan Martin Del Potro, which is simpler, with less looping back swing, thus she does very well with hitting the ball on the rise and needs less setup time, less error and mishits.
Who has THE BEST forehand?! Juan Martin. Better than the great Roger Federer [who has stated juniors should look at to model (IMG uses JMDP as a primary pro model too)
(Note: am wondering if people are aware how many past and current players have been and are taught through the IMG Academy?!! Besides Monica Seles, Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Venus & Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Kei Nishikori, Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, etc.)
Petra Kvitova, Aryna Sabalenka, Danielle Collins Karolina & Kateryna Pliskova all have great forehands.
Two additional ones are Belinda Bencic & Bianca Andreescu. Sabine Lisicki has an amazing, powerful forehand too, who also hits the ball on the rise, low, powerful, with angles, cross-court and down-the-line.
Sometimes it is about the consistency of producing the results too.
Another very important, often left out aspect to all strokes, is the use of the legs, hips, shoulder turn and proper synchronization. Actually these cover technique and form well. However, the most important aspect is the mind to implement, execute and achieve the results. consistently, repetitively, at the most important points and under pressure. Technique is honed and developed by repetition. The person/player then uses the mind to decide, imagine and see the ball going where and how desired. The mind then direct the body parts to move accordingly. This is how we walk, move, eat, talk, write, type, reach, etc.
    Sincerely,
    :-)

The best ever is Sam Stosur - powerful, deep, well placed and then the nadelesque topspin that made it extra difficult to predict and handle after bounce. Graf's was deadly of course, but it's consistency had to do with her movement , as Lindsay mentioned.
