Great video! I also dislike the keyboard layout, but I was wondering how much of a deal breaker this is for normal usage? Was it so annoying that it became difficult to use? Thanks
Thanks! this helped me so much seeing how im trying to buy a new laptop, (My First Laptop) and this helped me decide and if I buy this from MSI will it have the led lights in the keyboard?
Real quality review! I'm thinking of buying one at the end of this year, but I have bought a new 100 dollar steelseries keyboard recently for my old all-in-one computer, maybe I'll find another use for that keyboard.
***** Thank you! Nice! If you do buy one, let me know what you think of it! Nice - which one? Yeah, you could always use it with a nice mouse to game on this on a monitor or something?
***** No worries! Nice - we reviewed the standard colourful Apex a while ago and found it pretty nice! Out of interest, if you do buy this, where would you buy it from?
well, I live in Belgium (a small country in Europe, Brussels is the capital) so there probably aren't any computer store's you know off. I'll probably buy it at 'Tones' wich is sppecialized in computers or at 'Bol', an online store that sells pretty much anything.
***** Nice! Yeah I've been to Belgium a few times actually - once for a school trip to Ypres and the other to the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa! You are right though, I don't know any there! I was hoping you lived in a country serviced by Amazon, where I could say 'here use our link to help us out!' but nevermind :P Still do let me know what you think of it when you get it - and if you want to, feel free to chat with us on facebook (fb.com/techteamgb) and Twitter (@techteamgb)! :D
I was a bit confused about your comment on windows key, it is done purposely because its a gaming laptop, having the "ctrl" key there is VERY important, but that's just MY one cent!!!
Is it worth it to get the 960M over the 950M? I also like the dual fan design, i've been told the normal apache does make alot of noise with only one fan.
SuperGtafan123 While I haven't tried the 950m, if you plan on gaming - then I would say so yes! More horsepower is always better, and yes the new dual fan design is a lot quieter and keeps it cooler too! I guess you are planning on getting one then?
Hello, the ac adapter is 150W right? Did you notice any performance issues or battery drain while gaming/full load? nice review btw, keep them coming :)
Yep, 150W is right. While it was plugged in? No, I found it was just fine! It charged even while gaming and often due to battery saver stuff, ran games and such faster! Thanks for the compliment too! We do plan to keep them going!
I have a laptop a bit bigger (0.4 cm more) And honestly its very ok and firs in all of my bag even the smallest (its a 2010 pc with a nvs 5100m). You can get a gs70 but it cost much more for basically: more keyboard flex, higher temperatures, higher fan noise, thinner size.
Is this still good for minecraft overwatch fortnite pubg csgo? Im also going to get 16 gb ram and a i7 6700hq. But it is used for 2 years already. Pls let me know if i should buy it.
+TechteamGB Actually I want to use it for making music ! and Video editing (After Effect & Sony Vegas) ? You think it's a good laptop for those kind of things ?
im quite new with laptops, but whats the ideal way to prolong your battery life? is it to leave the charger plugged in when gaming even at 100% or let it drain out?
+Ness Now-a-days, it really doesn't matter. You can leave it plugged in for eternity and it'll probably still hold the same charge after a year as one that'll be used then drained, used then drained. Also, Lithium-Ion batteries actually suffer very badly if you completely wear it out (0%) as they require a charge to keep themselves together and not become volatile (set on fire), so basically I'd say use it how you want! Specifically for gaming though, the laptop has power saving features so if you don't have it plugged in while gaming, it'll downclock the CPU, GPU and memory, making you have a lower FPS, but longer battery life - so when you can, keep it plugged in for gaming!
so i saw a couple reviews of this laptop and loved the specs so i ordered it. After that I've seen nothing but good things about this laptop I'm so excited its coming tomorrow XD
+jack chin thanks! Sadly I can't as I'm not in touch with Lenovo. I've spoken to them in social media but they say they will get in touch then never do.
Question! Is this the same as the GE62? Just bigger? Because I'm buying my first laptop. Thinking 15"-17". The whole "960m" sacred me because everyone is saying 970 is wayyyy better? Can I play Skyrim, Gta online, Smite etc with decent frame rate to where I can play with no problems?
***** I can't definitively tell you, since I didn't take them off! I'd guess so - but as I said I couldn't tell you! I'm sorry I can't be more helpful!
+TechteamGB thanks for the reply. It's a year on from that review and I'm looking at this laptop for Battleborn / overwatch etc. Will it play these on at least high settings? Thanks
Whats the sound quality like? Cause i need a laptop where i can play my games and make music but if the sound cracks alot and sounds weak then its kinda rough for me
Hello there. I'm in the market for a new laptop, mostly for gaming, but I can make up my mind. I have narrow my choices to either this MSI or the ASUS ROG GL551. Any advice?
Sadly since we haven't reviewed the Asus unit, I couldn't advice, although I can say this is awesome! Great quality, still light, good battery life, and great performance!
So you can't scroll using the touchpad at all? how do they expect people to scroll? I don't want a laptop where I have to click on the scroll bar on screen to move up and down, is there no way of activating touchpad scrolling?
Hey, very nice video! Thanks for that. Got two questions for you and it would be great to receive an answer (or your opinion) :) first question: The GT/GS/GE/GP...70 had a lot of problems with the temperature... especially on the left side of the touch pad where you used to place your hand to play :) Can you tell me if this problem is still present for the GE72? Second question: I have the choice between: GE72.... 5700HQ, 1TB + 128GB SSD, 16GB RAM, GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5 and VN7.... 4720HQ, 1TB + 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM, GTX960M 2GB GDDR5 For the same price. benchmark tests didn´t prove that the 5700HQ is noticeable faster than the 4720HQ. So.... Any advise? :)
+okciao The issue with temps has been greatly reduced thanks to the 900 series GPUs, so yes it's fixed. As for the choices, I'm not sure what you mean by VN7, so can't give too much of an insight, although I do know that the GE72 is great and lovely to use!
It depends on what you mean by loud, and what you are doing with it really. If you are playing games then yeah it's normal, but if you mean just on the desktop then no that's a bit strange, are the temps high?
You can either buy this and change the color through the Steelseries software, or check the MSI GP Series. They offer a plain white backlit keyboard and it's not changeable. (Also the GP series are more budget oriented, you can get the same specs for around 150$ less than the GE).
HAHA ME TOO SO CONFUSED ON WHAT TO BUY, but most people said MSI build quality is really poor.. and you know asus have a good reputation for all those years.. yeah maybe i'll get asus gl752vw too
TheGamingGuy I'm not very familiar with Minecraft, or modding it, but I would say you would be looking at a constant 60FPS+ even with the shaders and texture pack.
TheGamingGuy No worries! Yes, as shown in the video, it plays BF4 at ultra settings at around 45FPS average, and from experience after making the video, it plays GTA V well on high settings too!
Have a question and concern which I'm hoping someone can please help me out with - if another owner even better. I just bought this laptop about a week ago and I'm finding when I'm charging it the charge is reasonably fast and accurate up until around 90% - once I'm at around 90% the charge literally goes to a crawl, where it says for example "8 minutes to full charge" but it's more like 30mins... is this normal? Is it a safety feature that slows the charge down? Please help really worried with the laptop being so new. I know about the "plugged in not charging" is a safety feature where the laptop won't charge unless below 91% approx.. - but the other thing has me really concerned.
+Paul Rumble any other owners, please do respond as well! From my personal experience, I'd say it's fine. I've had lots of different situations where laptops do and don't charge, and I've found that the time windows suggests for both battery life and charge time never seems to be right. You may find the reason for it slowing down near the top is that it is possibly trying to slow cell degradation down and keep the charge cycles lower - or could just be windows being inaccurate as usual. Either way, I don't think it is something to be worried about - although if you want to confirm this you can always tweet at MSI as they normally respond quickly - and can put your mind at rest. Hope this helps!
+TechteamGB - Hello, yes that helps greatly. Thank you for the reply, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I was so worried about my laptop doing something it shouldn't be doing + with it only being a week old.
I'm sure there are plenty of third party apps that would let you scroll, and I would recommend using a mouse anyway, so I wouldn't truly call it a deal breaker, but I know the feeling! I could be wrong though, there may be scrolling available but I just didn't find it (meaning it's not intuitive...). Let me know what you end up with!
TechteamGB keep up the good work lad. Have watch several reviews and I'm surprised no one mentioned this but to be fair maybe they'd prefer to use a gaming mouse. I've got a conundrum basically because I'm upgrading my laptop for school but I'd like one with a SSD and a HHD. My only other option would be to build a MacBook Pro with a SSD and install another HD as the new models don't have an optical drive. But alas thank you for the review and feedback!
Personally I had no issues with the wifi in this laptop. It was actually pretty awesome and meant I could go further from my router with the a good amount of signal and speed!
I would I would think so, do you use software like cad and 3d rendering? If so then yes, the is definitely powerful enough, and probably light enough and such to take with you!
I would say it in the hundreds of FPS, as CSGO really isn't a demanding game, and this is pretty damn powerful! Definitely more than 60 FPS which is the limit you'll hit due to the screen being 60hz! Are you looking to get one?
I would say no, because they both are able to cool the components well enough that they don't throttle at all! Even if there was a performance difference, it would only be 1 maybe 2 FPS! Hope that helps!
+TechteamGB so you said i can, which is great, but i re watched the video and you don't go into how to make just pure red, where it does'nt change at all, i don't want it to start at red from one side and go red to the other side, i'm trying to make the entire back light constant red.
+Jake Pacini The same way you get it to stay red green and blue in the different areas, you just select the mode you want (solid) and select the colour. See here: imgur.com/ug37l0w
TechteamGB awesome. I really want the Surface Book however I am impatient and it's not released in the UK until end of Q1 2016. Looking at Defiance II from PcSpecialists atm.
+TechteamGB Is There MSI GE72 APACHE Better than a Lenovo Y50-70 and Lenovo Y700 ? I say for the Nvidia Graphics, Lenovos: 860M MSI: 960M you know? =) thanks
+DarkBerryX If the Lenovo models you are looking at have an 860m and the MSI has a 960m, I'd go for the MSI one just for that reason! It's newer, cooler, faster and generally (I've heard) a better laptop. Personally I really like the GE72, and would recommend it to anyone!
so i just got this, 2nd time it has screwed up with windows software or something i have no clue, i had to go back to the store for the 3rd time already and im wondering if anyone with this same laptop has the same problem as me?
I have a ge72 2qe apache. I added another ssd and overclocked the gpu and cpu. It boots within seconds! The only thing I don't like is that it gets pretty hot...
Hey Is that true if i dont use the Charger than i lose much fps on a games? Than it"s mean if i play a game i always need to use a charger and after a Ice cool because will be to hot???!! thx
I'm not overly sure what you mean here, but I think I can answer. You might loose FPS if you don't have the charger plugged in, as power saving settings generally turn everything down to make the battery last longer. There is no overheating issues with having the charger constantly plugged in though.
Yes okay thx just looked up rocket leauge seems assum! I had gta 5 to my ps3 but People say its so much better to PC so im thinking about to but that its Easy from steam to buy i suppose! Is it possible to somehowe transfer my account from ps3 to PC on gta?
Gaming G Hey there! The results for temps we got were after a long time, including around 7 hours straight on GTA V. The max temp for CPU was around 90 i think, with the gpu sitting around 80 (see website for specific figure) but that was on my lap - so a bit higher than just on a desk. Hope that helps! Are you looking to get one?
TechteamGB yeah are the palm rest get hot if u play around 2 or 1 hours for games like bf4?? did the settings of the game effect the temp?? or should i get msi gs70?? cause in worrying about the hot about palm rest
Gaming G This was cooler than the gs70 by a tad, due to more space for airflow and heatsinks, and didn't get hot on the keyboard area or palm rest. I played several hours of GTA V and it wasn't too hot to touch or anything on top like the palm rest or keyboard. The GS70 is the one I would get as that was awesome and cool too, just this one is a tad cheaper!
$1249 pm sale, but i got the 6QD not the 2QD model. $1249 on sale, plus tax and 3 yrs of geeksquad protection (includes defects, hardware failures, spills, drops, etc) for an additional $350 so i paid $1742 in total w/ the protection and after tax, etc. :) Not a bad deal, still cheaper than both Asus laptops I had before this and runs circles around both :-) Had it for just under a week now (it'll be a week on Friday) and it's awesome :D it does run warm at times but you got a dedicated fan button on top, I just swap it on and it cools it down really quickly. :) Very pleased with MSI so far :-) Runs any game I threw at it flawlessly, except for Skyrim, but that's cuz I can't get Skyrim on Steam to get past the damn launcher for some reason.
This is the exact one I ordered (it's sold out online though) - www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-ge72-apache-pro-029-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-128gb-solid-state-drive-aluminum-black/4556210.p?id=1219766808108&skuId=4556210
DvLZNoob Hi I been loving mine for the past month. I been playing new games at good fps and I have the 960m version. I would recommend the 970m version if you can afford it because it will be better bang for your buck in the long run
Wormfan100 I would expect for BF4 with the 965m, you'd be getting around 50FPS on ultra settings, on average, and again on high settings in GTA V you would be getting around 60FPS average, which is really good! Are you looking to get the apache-027? (if so where from?)
I'm getting mine from the bestbuy marketplace, It costs $1,199 which is good considering the specs and looks compared to the Lenovo y50, Also if you have the 27 could you do a gaming video on it? Or at least on the Ge72 you have? Because their isn't much gaming videos showing off what the ge72 can do
Wormfan100 Nice! Yeah this is much nicer laptop in my opinion :P I don't have the 27 model unfortunately - and MSI doesn't have a review sample free I can have to review. I could probably get the GE72 back, but we do cover gaming in this video!
Unfortunately we can't find it on Amazon yet! I assume since its so new it hasn't been stocked and listed by Amazon (or any resellers) yet. Sorry about that! MSI recommends box.co.uk for purchases as far as I'm aware, so it may be worth checking there. Sorry and thanks for the comment!
+RAOM RAOM I'm not sure the the 960m would go all out or not, but I'd generally recommend going for the 970m anyway, as it will help you run the laptop further into the future, even a little, and you'll be able to play other games too which is awesome!
I need help. I tried to start installing gtav on steam. It said not enough space, so I went to see how much hard drive space I had and it said I have 118 gbs available, and it says on the ge72 i got that i have 1tb! please help!
+Technically Technical And the touchpad keeps stopping and just not working for a few seconds, I dont know if he mentioned it in the vid, but please help! (it has a 970m)
I doubt it would run it on very high settings, as £1000 graphics cards do t make light work of that, I'd say for this (a d even other laptop in this range) you'd be looking at medium settings, which is still very nice.
+Pang Fei Yes, it can definitely run GTA5 at very high, and ultra given you have the version with a 970m. The 960m version will also run it well, but you may have to turn things down because of the Vram limit.
+Phallus Cooper If running at very high setting , will this game like lagging a little ? My friend using a Asus ROG gl552jx and when he turn everything to very high except the texture (normal) is like pretty damn lag , but his using GTX 950m , that's why I'm concerning will this laptop same as the Asus
I been looking to get a laptop and I found this www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-17-3-Inch-Leopard-Gaming-Notebook/dp/B01A9ETEW6 However, like you said, the keys are in odd places. However, the attatched laptop in this comment shows American keys where the £ is missing and the " is above ' etc... Do you think if I ordered it I would get a similar dealy to your laptop? I wouldn't mind the funny key places, but at least I would need the £ sign, @ being SHIFT + ' rather than SHIFT + 2 etc :/
salem alkhaldi The M.2 drive(s) can be upgraded, along with the 2.5 inch hard drive, but the CPU and GPU cannot. I believe the RAM can be upgraded if you wanted too, but as I said everything else isn't. Hope that helps!
salem alkhaldi No worries. To an extent, yes. But a laptop like this will still be playing games on high settings for at least 3 years (In my opinion), so you don't really have to worry. You will struggle to find many laptops, especially as slim as this one, with upgradable GPUs, and to my knowledge there isn't any (or really very few) with changeable CPUs. That is the trade you make when buying portability!
Hey guys I need a help, I've few laptop options for gaming 1-) MSI GE62 Apache 2-) MSI GE72 Apache 3-) Asus ROG GL552VW 4-)Asus ROG GL752VW so I'm gonna play Call of Duty series, GTA5 and Total War Atilla and which laptop have a better cooler system? I'm gonna play games about 5-6 hours each day and I need good cooling system. Which is fit for me?
Technically speaking I've only ever checked out the ge72, so can't really say what the temps and such of the others will be. I do know that generally temps are lower in the bigger ones, and from my experience I'd probably lean towards the GE72. Hope that helps!
The optical drive is there because of several reasons. 1.installing drivers manually via a disk 2.Blu Ray discs. 3.people installing games from the shop as they may have a set bandwidth in which they can use and it may not be fast enough. well you can see where i'm going with this so year i'll leave it there. The keyboard isn't an american layout.
+Max Maffia I see the idea, but here's my retort: 1. I haven't done that in literally 4 years, plus drivers come pre-installed here 2. If I read it right, you can't use it for Blue Rays. 3. Ok, that is fine, but they will still have to download the entire game again due to patches... Also, it is, this is the UK (ISO) layout: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_and_American_keyboards#/media/File:KB_United_Kingdom.svg Whereas the american layout: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_and_American_keyboards#/media/File:KB_United_States-NoAltGr.svg
+TechteamGB no they won't as the game will update aromatically and the gane installs to your pc via a disc thus not using the Internet and saying bandwidth. say your Internet speed was 5mbps for the whole house. that's not what you can use just for this game it's more likely you'd have about 1 at most if not downloading it via kbps which sounds more likely. that's who download a game via a disc is for and I can be better as it will almost always be faster no matter you Internet speed unless you have like 10gbps where as we have 6gbps tead/write speeds anyways on modern machines from about 2010 onwards if not before so yeah your drive point is here by no valid
I lived with 2mbps Internet for about 5 years, and bought games on disks, but 90% of the games required updates straight away, which were often about as big as the game. Max payne 3 is a perfect example of that, it's about 30gb on disc, but requires 36gb of downloads before you can play. Also, anything faster than 20mbps is fine for downloading games - not 10gbps! Anyway, if you like having a dvd drive in your laptop or pc, then fair enough! Personally I don't, but I don't have to have it. Thanks for commenting and I hope you enjoyed the video none the less!
I din't say that it wasn't fine I just said that you won't get the same speeds and I doubt highly doubt that your installing the games right and fi you have been doing it via a disc anyway then you have contradicted yourself and need to reevaluate your opinion.
I didn't really understand that I'm afraid. I'm not too sure how I contradicted myself or why I have to reevaluate my opinion. This sounds somewhat personal, so as I said thanks for commenting.
Sargeras the witcher 3 you surely can, you do have to lower the graphics settings though! I don't know about dark souls, never played or even watched a video of that game 😂
There is next to nothing that can run gta v on ultra settings with no lag, even at 1080p.. But if you mean can it run gta v well with reasonable settings, then yes, yes it can!
+Kiko Bar Hey, I don't have any experience with Alienware laptops, so couldn't really tell you, but I don't think (easily could be wrong) this one and the Alienware are the same class, I think you would be looking at an MSI GS70 to compare against!
TechteamGB I thought this one has gtx 970m, and is around 1400$ value, thats why i compared it to the Alienware 17 R3 ( currently 1399$ with a gtx 970m). Also i am curious have you thought about making Alienware reviews? :) Thank you.
+Kiko Bar Sadly no, this one (or at least the model I reviewed) has a 960m. I assume your looking at a 970m version of this. As for Alienware reviews, if they wanted to send me some laptops to review, I'd be more than happy to make them - but for now I don't know anyone at Dell/Alienware or anyone who could supply me one for the review!
30 seconds boot time? I have the same laptop with the only difference that mine has a GTX950M. And mine takes only 10 seconds to boot, and I have programs on my laptop like Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Steam and stuff like that
I have the MSI Ge*70* 2QD, but the specs are all the same except for the GPU But I think my laptop it totally worth it. Its lightning fast, runs all the heavy programs pretty smooth, the screen is very nice, and gaming is not that bad at all (I have the laptop for college use, not gaming only). Only thing I dislike about the laptop is the shitty touch pad. But I have a mouse connected all the time so its not that much of a problem
Arthur Granhof Definitely! There isn't meant to be many new releases in the next few months, so for now this is the top of the class in terms of value gaming laptops! And thanks! I hope you got some useful info out of it!
If I were into/needed portable gaming I would definitely get the one with the GTX 970m, and I completely agree on the Blu-Ray drive. I also do not like that it takes 30 seconds to boot. I'm thinking it's also including a Bios Post. Or maybe it's sharing PCIe lanes with the HDD & the GPU...
Yeah, although for a hundred or so quid less, that's not bad! The test we did was from pressing the button to being on the desktop, if you exclude bios posting it would be around 20 seconds. As for pci e lanes, that would be something you would have to ask msi about.. Hope you enjoyed the video!
TechteamGB Hello, great review, quick question, where did you buy it from? I'll be moving to the Uk soon, I'd like to pick it up as soon as possible. Cheers.
Great video! I also dislike the keyboard layout, but I was wondering how much of a deal breaker this is for normal usage? Was it so annoying that it became difficult to use?
Thanks
Just found you guys, and you're the only reviewers who actually respond to comments! You have my support
Thanks! We try to reply to everyone as soon as we can :P by support do you mean subscribed? Haha thanks again!
The quality of this vid made me a subscriber, keep up the great work. Can't wait to see you at the top!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it and I really hope to be there soon with awesome folk like you holding me there :3 thank you!
How do you make it light up? SteelSeries engine wont pick up my keyboard
Thanks! this helped me so much seeing how im trying to buy a new laptop, (My First Laptop) and this helped me decide and if I buy this from MSI will it have the led lights in the keyboard?
Real quality review! I'm thinking of buying one at the end of this year, but I have bought a new 100 dollar steelseries keyboard recently for my old all-in-one computer, maybe I'll find another use for that keyboard.
***** Thank you! Nice! If you do buy one, let me know what you think of it! Nice - which one? Yeah, you could always use it with a nice mouse to game on this on a monitor or something?
It's the Steelseries APEX RAW, thanks for the reply!

Thanks for this video but about the temperature when i look some opinion, they said the proccess is at 90°C that's normal or not ?
Is it worth it to get the 960M over the 950M? I also like the dual fan design, i've been told the normal apache does make alot of noise with only one fan.
SuperGtafan123 While I haven't tried the 950m, if you plan on gaming - then I would say so yes! More horsepower is always better, and yes the new dual fan design is a lot quieter and keeps it cooler too! I guess you are planning on getting one then?

Yep, 150W is right. While it was plugged in? No, I found it was just fine! It charged even while gaming and often due to battery saver stuff, ran games and such faster! Thanks for the compliment too! We do plan to keep them going!
How is the thickness on the laptop compared to other models? I'm considering getting this laptop with the 965m. I just want to know what to expect.
Would you recommend this as a first gaming laptop...?
Is this still good for minecraft overwatch fortnite pubg csgo?
Im also going to get 16 gb ram and a i7 6700hq. But it is used for 2 years already.
Pls let me know if i should buy it.
I'd really like to hear more about this Laptop since u got it ? I mean your impressions ? does it worth it ? please let me know ?
I really liked it, a bit big for me personally but build quality was nice and over pretty good.
+TechteamGB Actually I want to use it for making music ! and Video editing (After Effect & Sony Vegas) ? You think it's a good laptop for those kind of things ?
+OldyM Beatz Yeah, I used Premiere Pro on it (and after effects) and was great!
+TechteamGB Thank you so much for your answers appreciate it !
im quite new with laptops, but whats the ideal way to prolong your battery life? is it to leave the charger plugged in when gaming even at 100% or let it drain out?

Great review as always. Can you make a video review on the lenovo Y700? In your opinion, how does this laptop compare to that?
+jack chin thanks! Sadly I can't as I'm not in touch with Lenovo. I've spoken to them in social media but they say they will get in touch then never do.
That's unfortunate.. I was looking forward to your review on that laptop actually. Anyway, keep up the good work 😉
Can you add ssds to this model Techteam?
+Luca di gaetano ofc mate
where can i get all the driver?
How much does this normally costs?
My GE72 2QE win 8.1 with SSD 128gb boot to windows in 8 sec, shutdown in 5 sec and restart in 18 sec, why are yours taking 30 sec??
I'm not too sure, but it is still fast compared to a hard drive and that is the main point! Glad yours is awesome though!
TechteamGB Will upload a video later on the boot time :)
Btw how long is restart time of the QD?
Awesome! I believe it was around a minute - 45 seconds. Still not long!
Btw, did u test with fast start up disabled, or enabled?
Yeah, it should be fine!
whats the big difference between the msi ge62 and the ge72 exept the specs?
+Winter Fist screen size
Do the palm rest stickers peel off easily without leaving behind residue? I hate stickers!
***** I can't definitively tell you, since I didn't take them off! I'd guess so - but as I said I couldn't tell you! I'm sorry I can't be more helpful!
Do you still recommend this laptop for me? Or is there any other new laptop that i should get :)?
The newer version of this one with a Broadwell (5th gen) chip is pretty awesome!
What was the benchmark score with unigine heaven that you was running in background????
I use stock footage for these reviews.
+TechteamGB thanks for the reply. It's a year on from that review and I'm looking at this laptop for Battleborn / overwatch etc. Will it play these on at least high settings? Thanks
+lambo7 yes, I'd expect so
+TechteamGB thanks
Whats the sound quality like? Cause i need a laptop where i can play my games and make music but if the sound cracks alot and sounds weak then its kinda rough for me
+colin Mcgovern Yeah it's pretty good - obviously not as good as a full set of speakers or a nice headset, but it's pretty good.
+TechteamGB how well do you think it would handle a huge game like the upcoming fallout 4?
I think it would play it perfectly fine, on medium to high settings!
is it light compare to the gt72 dominator ?
+mjhartanto01 I believe so yes.
So you can't scroll using the touchpad at all? how do they expect people to scroll? I don't want a laptop where I have to click on the scroll bar on screen to move up and down, is there no way of activating touchpad scrolling?
+The Cosmic Squid yes, it turned out it was disabled in software by a previous reviewer!
+TechteamGB Ah Ok thanks :D so is it easy to activate scrolling?
+The Cosmic Squid yup, really easy!
is this the one with 970m, i have the one with 970m :)
Hey, very nice video! Thanks for that. Got two questions for you and it would be great to receive an answer (or your opinion) :)
first question:
The GT/GS/GE/GP...70 had a lot of problems with the temperature... especially on the left side of the touch pad where you used to place your hand to play :)
Can you tell me if this problem is still present for the GE72?
Second question:
I have the choice between:
GE72.... 5700HQ, 1TB + 128GB SSD, 16GB RAM, GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5
and
VN7.... 4720HQ, 1TB + 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM, GTX960M 2GB GDDR5
For the same price.
benchmark tests didn´t prove that the 5700HQ is noticeable faster than the 4720HQ.
So.... Any advise? :)
BTW: i love the design of the GE72.... but i heard that VN7 (BE) should be a great one.... also it´s never running hot or noisy.
+okciao The issue with temps has been greatly reduced thanks to the 900 series GPUs, so yes it's fixed. As for the choices, I'm not sure what you mean by VN7, so can't give too much of an insight, although I do know that the GE72 is great and lovely to use!
+TechteamGB Sorry for that... it´s:
VN7-791G-70TW (Acer Nitro V17 Black Edition)
but anyway.... nice to hear that the temps has been fixed :)
I recently got this and I find it very loud even when I don't have the fan on turbo, is this normal?
It depends on what you mean by loud, and what you are doing with it really. If you are playing games then yeah it's normal, but if you mean just on the desktop then no that's a bit strange, are the temps high?
For people like me who dont like fancy colors etc, can i change the keyboard light color to a plain white? Thanks.
Yup, just use the Steelseries software.
You can either buy this and change the color through the Steelseries software, or check the MSI GP Series. They offer a plain white backlit keyboard and it's not changeable. (Also the GP series are more budget oriented, you can get the same specs for around 150$ less than the GE).
Is it still worth to buy or are there better options?
The newer version is still great!
Thanks for your reply, one more question: which MSI laptop would you recommend with a budget of max 1800 euro?
which one u think i should buy...the msi ge72 apache 6qd or the asus gl752vw??
+navin iisvar dude :D im in the same situation :D its exact same dilemma im having, have you decided which one you got, im leaning towards the asus
HAHA ME TOO SO CONFUSED ON WHAT TO BUY, but most people said MSI build quality is really poor.. and you know asus have a good reputation for all those years.. yeah maybe i'll get asus gl752vw too
GL752VW feels more plastic-ish. I'd rather get the GE72 although it means I'll have to pay more.
navin iisvar which one did you buy? Cause both of them are terrible ovens.
What fps would this achieve while recording minecraft and is this worth?
Is it too small?
You would be fine for that - I don't know specific FPS but I would expect it to be 60+. It is very much worth it yes!
is not full HD ?? what the different apache with apache pro 2QD?
+steven liau This is full HD yes
How many fps do you think minecraft will get while using shader and texture pack?
And how many fps without shader and TP?
TheGamingGuy I'm not very familiar with Minecraft, or modding it, but I would say you would be looking at a constant 60FPS+ even with the shaders and texture pack.
Thx for responding :)
But is this pc going to run bf4, gta 5 well?
TheGamingGuy No worries! Yes, as shown in the video, it plays BF4 at ultra settings at around 45FPS average, and from experience after making the video, it plays GTA V well on high settings too!
Hello I have a ge72 2qc but I don't have led switch how do I change color. And now I just have white color
Hi there! Do you mean on the keyboard? Just ope the steelseries engine and change the colours!
can you connect this laptop using the hdmi port to a wii u?
+Jian Horrian no
Have a question and concern which I'm hoping someone can please help me out with - if another owner even better.
I was so worried about my laptop doing something it shouldn't be doing + with it only being a week old.
is it better than ge 60
How do you change the key board color ? thanks :)
+ChampionGaubComics com use the steelseries engine application.
can this run really any game?
+Charllie m Pretty much yeah!
+TechteamGB thanks!
Was looking to buy this. But you can't scroll at all in the track pad? That might be a deal breaker. Used the one finger scroll immensely.
Ah, perfect! Thanks for letting us know!
how about the wifi connection,
I heard some MSI of the model has a connection problem,
can you verified that.
thank you.
Personally I had no issues with the wifi in this laptop. It was actually pretty awesome and meant I could go further from my router with the a good amount of signal and speed!
thanks for the info
is it good for interior designers and Architecture ??????
I would I would think so, do you use software like cad and 3d rendering? If so then yes, the is definitely powerful enough, and probably light enough and such to take with you!
Use it to do a personal project and model my whole school (and its big, about 100 classrooms). So yes I think its good
What do you think the fps will be on csgo with max settings ?
I would say it in the hundreds of FPS, as CSGO really isn't a demanding game, and this is pretty damn powerful! Definitely more than 60 FPS which is the limit you'll hit due to the screen being 60hz! Are you looking to get one?
Ya maybe not to sure
Ah fair enough, what's holding you back?
Do you think i get more FPS on the GE72 then the GE62 with the same specs?
I would say no, because they both are able to cool the components well enough that they don't throttle at all! Even if there was a performance difference, it would only be 1 maybe 2 FPS! Hope that helps!
Thanks it realy helps
No worries!
the logo lights up like the gs70?
Yes
I never find something about battery life of MSI laptops, how is the battery life of msi laptops? Btw great review!
It's about 4 hours of web browsing type use, 1 hour of gaming.
+TechteamGB Thanks! normally I'll buy the GE72 6QC 1100€; hope it's worth! :)
if i wanted to make the keyboard just red, not changing at all, how would i be able to do that??
Yup!
+TechteamGB so you said i can, which is great, but i re watched the video and you don't go into how to make just pure red, where it does'nt change at all, i don't want it to start at red from one side and go red to the other side, i'm trying to make the entire back light constant red.
Yes you can, you just select what colour each zone will be, which can be all one colour.
+TechteamGB but how do i keep it solid red? thats the part i cant figure out...
+Jake Pacini The same way you get it to stay red green and blue in the different areas, you just select the mode you want (solid) and select the colour. See here: imgur.com/ug37l0w
I just bought the 6qd version and im simply blown away by the preformance
+Zero reaper Nice! They really are awesome aren't they!
omg yes!!!!!!!!! mine boots up in like 10seg wthout ssd but i have that ddr4 and the i76700hq so im super happy
+Zero reaper That's amazing! I'm glad you are enjoying it! :D
I'm considering is MSI GE72 or Asus Gl552jx better ?
+Pang Fei Hey, so I'm actually just about to do a review of the Asus one - so if you can hang on a week or two, I'll let you know!
+TechteamGB Great ! Can't wait to see
Can't wait for mine to be delivered :D
within the same price range, what would you recommend?
+Mister K I haven't really used much else, so this! I do have an Asus GL552 out at the moment, so will let you know once that review is live!
TechteamGB
awesome. I really want the Surface Book however I am impatient and it's not released in the UK until end of Q1 2016. Looking at Defiance II from PcSpecialists atm.
Ah fair enough, I don't have any experience for that either I'm afraid!
Hey
Is that true if i dont use the Charger than i lose much fps on a games?
Than it"s mean if i play a game i always need to use a charger and after a Ice cool because will be to hot???!!
thx
I'm not overly sure what you mean here, but I think I can answer. You might loose FPS if you don't have the charger plugged in, as power saving settings generally turn everything down to make the battery last longer. There is no overheating issues with having the charger constantly plugged in though.
+TechteamGB
ja i mean about this...thx
How is the battery life?
~4 hours normal use, ~1 hr gaming
What is better to buy asus rog g551jw or msi ge62 apache pro
Since i haven't had the chance to check out the Asus laptops, I can only really recommend the GE here as it's pretty awesome!
Is this laptop upgradeable? And which parts?
+Jay Bryant It'll have upgradable SSD, RAM and HDD. Otherwise it's like most other laptops, you can't upgrade much.
+TechteamGB oh okay thanks. the graphics card is not upgradeable for laptops? looking to buy my first gaming laptop
+Jay Bryant 99 out of 100 laptops will not have upgradable GPUs no.
any laptop brand you recommend for gaming? A lot of people in my class have MSIs?
+Jay Bryant MSI is a great brand for gaming laptops, my favourite is the GS60 personally
just got one cs go is rly Nice now, any more good games i could try to play on this crazy machine?
+fredrik gustavsson nice! I'd recommend Rocket League and GTA V as they are both incredible games!
Yes okay thx just looked up rocket leauge seems assum! I had gta 5 to my ps3 but People say its so much better to PC so im thinking about to but that its Easy from steam to buy i suppose! Is it possible to somehowe transfer my account from ps3 to PC on gta?
Yeah, you can even easily transfer your ps3 character to pc! You just log in to your Rockstar account, it's really easy!
Sweet hope i remember my username and shit :o
how about the temp when playing high end games like bf4 in 5 hours or long
Gaming G Hey there!
The GS70 is the one I would get as that was awesome and cool too, just this one is a tad cheaper!
so what do u reccommend ?? ge72/ge62 for better cooling?
or gs70
Getting mine tomorrow. :D Can't wait.
hey how much did you pay for yours?
So how can I convert this to charge in us?
+Eat Sleep Game connect a us clover leaf cable and you are good to go.
What fps should I expect for bf4 and gta5 with the Apache-027 model?
If you do get it back could you do a video focused on the gaming and how it performs on current games and etc?
Wormfan100 It's possible - but we do have a load of content to do, including a 4K monitor review! If we do, I will let you know!
could you give me a link to Amazon?
Unfortunately we can't find it on Amazon yet! I assume since its so new it hasn't been stocked and listed by Amazon (or any resellers) yet. Sorry about that! MSI recommends box.co.uk for purchases as far as I'm aware, so it may be worth checking there. Sorry and thanks for the comment!
Do you find yourself to be really bothered by the enter button? I've been wondering how annoying I will find it, and I can't really make up my mind.
I kinda do and don't. After a while it's natural, but the transition period is annoying as hell
How many cores are there
+The Tall Midget 4 cpu cores with hyperthreading
+TechteamGB thx
Can I hook an external mouse
+Aidan Free yes
Is this good for $500 (used)?
+Noah DeJesus yes, definitely
Can this laptop run WoW at maximum settings, and get good FPS?
I would assume so yes!
Thank you!, I was just wondering if a 960M could be enough, or just go with a 970M and be safe about it.
+Technically Technical That is strange and annoying! Are you able to install anything else in that space? Are you installing to the SSD or the HDD?
I could install garrysmod and tf2, and I dont really know if im installing to ssd or hdd,if you can tell me how maybe thats the problem?
I just figured out that its running and downloading stuff to "Os Install" and then my data dive has 911gbs left. How do I switch maybe?
I figured it out. Thank you though!
how is the build quality??
+Gabriel B. Pretty awesome actually - I've carted one around for a few weeks in a backpack before and has no worries!
+TechteamGB thank you for your response! Also did you have any issues with Windows 10 or graphics drivers problems?
+Gabriel B. No worries, and no Windows 10 seems to work just fine on pretty much all the laptops I've used.
alright thanks for the help!
this or asus rog 751 in terma of cooling?
+EzHoopla I haven't used the ROG 751 myself, so couldn't tell you I'm afraid!
Can this laptop play GTA 5 with very high setting not ultra , just very high . That's thing I'm concern :(
I doubt it would run it on very high settings, as £1000 graphics cards do t make light work of that, I'd say for this (a d even other laptop in this range) you'd be looking at medium settings, which is still very nice.
+TechteamGB I gotta survey about this laptop because in Malaysia it is currently around 3,500myr, which is quite pricy for me. :(
Ah I see, well it's a pretty awesome laptop and worth the money!
I been looking to get a laptop and I found this
www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-17-3-Inch-Leopard-Gaming-Notebook/dp/B01A9ETEW6
However, like you said, the keys are in odd places.
I'd hope so, although I couldn't tell you exactly! I'd expect the laptop should be fine since it's being sold in the UK.
TechteamGB
I think I'll get it :)
The specs are pretty good for how much it costs right? :D
Nice! Yes, that's good!
what is QD stand for ?
It's just the model number MSI assigned. Means nothing really
+TechteamGB I see , did 2QD can upgrade to 4QD ?
I don't think that a how it works, just check the specs of the laptops and see which is newer
Is it upgradeable?
salem alkhaldi The M.2 drive(s) can be upgraded, along with the 2.5 inch hard drive, but the CPU and GPU cannot. I believe the RAM can be upgraded if you wanted too, but as I said everything else isn't. Hope that helps!
Thanks, all i wanted to know is the cpu and gpu, i believe that i will need better ones with time right?
salem alkhaldi No worries.
Thanks
5:53 what game is that ? someone tell me please xD
Game is: Grid 2. it says so in top of the screen.
hey guys. i need some help. i cant seem to change the color on my MSI integrated keyboard. anyone know how to fix this?
+alexangeli11 In the Steelseries software? strange!
i found my issue. the version i bough only had 1 colour :(
Ah that sucks! Sorry to hear that!
ge72 2qc. they advertised the qf model online but contained the qc. :(
Ah I see, shame! Hope the rest of the laptop is alright!
You shouldn't buy the asus one... You won't have it for a long time!
+TechteamGB OK thanks a lot
+Simerok Hmm, I'll remember it, thanks homie
The optical drive is there because of several reasons.
1.installing drivers manually via a disk
2.Blu Ray discs.
3.people installing games from the shop as they may have a set bandwidth in which they can use and it may not be fast enough.
well you can see where i'm going with this so year i'll leave it there.
The keyboard isn't an american layout.
+Max Maffia I see the idea, but here's my retort:
1. I haven't done that in literally 4 years, plus drivers come pre-installed here
2. If I read it right, you can't use it for Blue Rays.
3. Ok, that is fine, but they will still have to download the entire game again due to patches...
Also, it is, this is the UK (ISO) layout: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_and_American_keyboards#/media/File:KB_United_Kingdom.svg
Whereas the american layout: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_and_American_keyboards#/media/File:KB_United_States-NoAltGr.svg
This sounds somewhat personal, so as I said thanks for commenting.
can it run witcher 3 and dark souls 3 etc?
: D
Sargeras the witcher 3 you surely can, you do have to lower the graphics settings though! I don't know about dark souls, never played or even watched a video of that game 😂
what about apache pro?
Sargeras Don't know. You can easily find gameplay of the GTX 960M and a I7 6700HQ running Witcher 3 tho
thanks!
Sargeras np m8 :)
can it do gta5 on ultra graphics with no lag?
There is next to nothing that can run gta v on ultra settings with no lag, even at 1080p.. But if you mean can it run gta v well with reasonable settings, then yes, yes it can!
+TechteamGB the gigabyte p37x can, and its on black Friday on xoticpc u can get it for 1549 dollars wich is really good
That's cool, if you get it let me know how it performs for you!
+TechteamGB yes i will, :D maybe i will get another one dont know when the black Friday sale ends
+Heil ISIS Oh fair enough! Let me know what you get!
In BIOS, you can actually switch the Fn and the WinKey virtually
+Morris Lee Oh that's awesome!
Hey guys i'm wondering should i buy this one or Alienware 17 R3 (gtx 970). If any of you own one of these please help me with the choice :) thanks!
I see. Thank you! Really hope someone from Alienware contacts you. You make great reviews.
is this a good gaming laptop will it run arma 3 rust and gta v bo3??? plz resonz
Yes it will at around 50 fps for arms and 50-61 fps for GTA. Yes I've tested it out before
Thxdud
+omer diallo you're welcome bro
+Hiram Murray III Which graphic setting was it on.
Can this laptop run Fallout4? thanks.
I can only assume so yes!
+TechteamGB thanks, and how much of a difference is this laptop from the msi ge72 264
What's the spec of the 264?
30 seconds boot time?
I have the same laptop with the only difference that mine has a GTX950M.
And mine takes only 10 seconds to boot, and I have programs on my laptop like Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Steam and stuff like that
Ugattie1611 | CS:GO Yeah, I'm not too sure, but it was still pretty awesome - what do you think of yours?
I have the MSI Ge*70* 2QD, but the specs are all the same except for the GPU
But I think my laptop it totally worth it.
Oh, and lets not forget the sexy design :3
Ugattie1611 | CS:GO Nice, I'm glad you like it (besides the touchpad but yeah I'd use a mouse anyway)! And yeah, super sexy :P
Acutally... after all the windows updates 'n stuff... it boots up even faster (7 seconds. yes...)
Is anyone else looking at this laptop and skipping through to see if there is any game play with it?
do you think that this will still be worth buy in a month or 2?
and awesome video dude :)
Arthur Granhof Definitely! There isn't meant to be many new releases in the next few months, so for now this is the top of the class in terms of value gaming laptops! And thanks! I hope you got some useful info out of it!
TechteamGB Thanks, you just got 1 more Subscriber there :)
Arthur Granhof haha thanks! I hope you enjoy some of our new stuff too!
When I press the led switch it takes me onto dragon gaming centre
+Brandon Kainth Really? That's strange..
The laptop seems to be pretty good but the way the screen is open from the bottom looks kinda weird or is it just me?
What do you mean?
Below the msi logo you can see through the other side can't you? It's not completely closed like most laptops are
Oh I see, no that is very normal. It is simply because the hinges are on the outside as opposed to one big one in the middle. Hope that helps!
I see. One more question what do you think of the MSI GT72-2QD dominator pro? and how are the msi sound cards are they any good?
TechteamGB Hello, great review, quick question, where did you buy it from? I'll be moving to the Uk soon, I'd like to pick it up as soon as possible.
Cheers.
You can scroll. All you have to do is enable it on Windows.
I didn't understand why he was complaining about the Enter key until I looked up what a British keyboard looked like.
Haha yeah, I'm much more used to ISO layout!
I just got this laptop its a beast!!!
+Connor Osullivan Nice!!!!
