Guitar Tech Tips: Fixing A Low Nut Slot......

- A guitar or bass nut can be tricky to get right. Too high and it'll feel uncomfortable to fret on the first few frets and hinders tuning, to low and it make your strings rattle and buzz a goodn'. The Nut can easily become too low as the string through it acts like a saw as it moves through it wether you're tuning, tremoloing or just using the bendy every once in a while;-). This video will show you one way to combat the dreaded low Nut string rattle. I hope it helps. Cheers Matt

Worked out for me, even without accelerator, this dries and hardens extremely fast. Thanks a lot!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for this video. I just finished a PRS style build and the high e and b buzz when I try to lower the action and I found that the nut is just cut too deep. I was worried I'd have to replace the whole thing, but this is beyond doable. Thanks again! Saved me quite a bit of time and money.
I literally have the same problem right now, what did you use? Had to get a replacement guitar (the G slot was way too low), then the 2nd guitar has same problem on high E and B
i just got a new guitar same exact problem bone nut. when i played c on b string it was a c#
Thanx mate! Super helpful! Cheers!🇮🇪
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this, just used it earlier today and it proper sorted me out.
Nice work Monty!!
A pleasure dear chap so glad it worked for you.
Its a temp solution. Good idea to mask off surrounding areas, well ventilate if using accelerator and mix in bone and lubricant fir a longer term fix. D#
I have one that I need to fix. I have some JB weld. I might try it out.
Thanks, this video help me a lot btw how to know if the nut is broken?
Thanks dear chap glad it helped. It depends on what has gone on with the nut, but the main things to look for are any string buzz or starting when the strings are played open but go away when you fret them. Secondly, keep an eye out for any cracks or things moving. Hope that helped, any more questions just give me a shout. Cheers Matt
I find that a lot of Gibson Custom Shop guitars have a nut slot cut very deep, often too deep for the high E string causing it to rattle on the 1st fret when played open. These guitars usually have nylon nuts. I've used various fillers for nuts made from plastic, bone and other materials that work very well, but never one made from nylon. What can be used as a filler for a nylon nut?
brilliant, thank you. Did you ever do an update on modifying the nozzle of the pipette? I have a bunch and would love to know how you achieve that needle nose tip for the application of the super glue. Thanks again.
That would be helpful. As you say, Stewmac ones are expensive.
dude what kind of guitar neck holder is that? i have seen loads of that lately.. thanks
PAKY KENNELS it’s a crimson guitars one
What size fret file for my low e string?
About to try this with the joe glaser nut powder
What gauge of strings do you use? I haven't tried that powder yet it looks really good.
I have a black nut. What could I use besides the bicarbonate powder?
Black bicarbonate powder
Nice my g on my stingray is to low
Let me know how you get on
I just added a piece of tinfoil and I was lucky because it’s no longer buzzing and staying in tune
"...especially with the whole Brexit thing. 👍 Thanks guys." Love it. Won't someone think of the luthiers? Great tip by the way. Bi-carb & superglue.

Dumb , easier way is to use steel pudddy and insert in the gap let it dry and you can sand it down
Clever, never thought of that I'll give it a go.
Dumb is the person who claims there's only one solution, when clearly there's a few.
