      Licences are only valid if they have been issued by a country that has a treaty with the Thai Government allowing the mutual acceptance of driving licences. These countries include the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This is for the country's driving licence valid in Thailand.

      In order to drive in Thailand the law requires you to have a either a Thai driving licence or valid foreign licence that is complete with a photograph. If you are using a foreign license it should be in English or alternatively be accompanied by an official translation into Thai or English.

    FYI
    He was checking the beam allignment of the headlights on both dip and main beams.
    In the UK, we insure the car before it goes for a MOT. Then you need both the MOT and insurance certificates before you can get it taxed.
    On my car in the UK, this costs me a total of £500 per year
    (20000 baht approximately)
    The tax is renewed online, and the certificates are registered online as well. Otherwise, it's a visit to the post office.
    The wheel vibrations are because the wheels need to be rebalanced.

    • @tastetheworld4234
      @tastetheworld4234 Месяц назад +1

      Ex car technician here. Wheel imbalance is just one of several possible causes. It's not something that can be diagnosed without an inspection/test drive

    • @videogenie1236
      @videogenie1236 Месяц назад +2

      FYI
      First, check that the wheels are balanced.
      Secondly, check that the ball joint rubber boots are not split open. As this can cause play in the ball joints.
      Third, on front wheel drive vehicles, the CV boots need to be checked for splits.
      CV joints can knock when going around things like roundabouts or sharp bends.
      There are a few other tests that can be done on the car, like checking for play in the wheel bearings, brake disks, or drums.
      Make sure the wheel nuts have been tightened correctly.
      I am sure that a competent vehicle technician should be able to find the fault.
      However, in my personal experience of wheel, 90% of the time, the wheels vibrate when a wheel is out of balance because a balance weight has fallen off.
      Also, I had vibration at speed when the garage didn't tighten all the wheel nuts correctly.

    The registration tax is dependent on engine size. The bigger the engine and the newer the car the more tax. I have a SUV that’s now 8 years old and its about 4000 and started off at nearly 5000 when I got it new. Car checks don’t start till that age and are not required before that. I generally take my car for a service before this so there’s no issues. In bigger centres there’s a traffic office and you get the new sticker at the same time. The vehicle checkpoint will stamp your 3rd party insurance certificate and which you take to the traffic office. If you don’t have one you can buy it there. The compulsory insurance spoken of is 3rd party only covering medical matters and is about 650 for car while insuring the car is extra but advisable.
    Another thing to consider here is the taxes on sedan vehicles are very high which is why you see so many large pickups and SUV's as you pay the same or less for much larger car. Much better value for money. They burn juice if you’re on a budget but are way better on the country roads and also for nudging through traffic as right of way rules are somewhat "fluid". Parking can be a pain though and not recomended for the city. As a final tip if you live in the country and drive to Bangers go to the outermost train stations where they have cheap, undercover, plentiful and secure short and long term parking at the stations. Cost me 75 for a day when I went to the embassy and that included the 2 way train ticket. You’ll get around quicker, cheaper and with much less stress than driving.

    • @2uksteve
      @2uksteve Месяц назад +1

      100% agree with getting the vehicle serviced just before the annual tax/inspection process - particularly if it's years old. My user-friendly place here in Chiang Mai offers to take my 20-year old SUV post-service to the inspection place & adjacent drive-through tax office for all of 300 baht....... job(s) done! They even drop off the car at my place (of course, YMMV).
      Yes the SUV (V6 Ford Escape) is a bit thirsty (specially if you're heavy-footed - but I'm not). With hindsight, I'd also probably go for a pickup - but either which way I want to be sitting high in something that's solid enough for me to survive a crash (way too much Thai driving/road sense is jaw-dropping).

    If the engine is losing water you have a problem already. Hopefully you'll se a puddle under the car which means you have a leak in a hose, radiator or water pump. If you don't see a puddle then it's a much bigger problem like a bad head gasket or warped head. Maybe you can just keep adding water and getting by but it's not normal for a car to lose or use water.

    I've been informed that if you have any traffic violations, ie traffic camera, that you've ignored when you go to pay road tax any unpaid violations will have to be paid in full before you can get your road tax sorted. This also applies to renewal of DL.

    Interesting Vlog in regards to the Tax requirements.
    Not everyone is a mechanic but you could save yourself some heartache and money by just doing a couple of very basic checks on your car every day if necessary.
    One check the oil level on the dipstick.
    Two check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir.
    If either one is showing low levels then you likely have a issue and should take it to the mechanic asap before it becomes a issue .
    Like not having enough coolant and cooking your engine.
    These are very simple basic checks you can easily do.
    If you can pull a Saxophone apart then you can handle those simple checks.
    Keep up the good work Ryan

    The yellow building is the inspection station. Cars need a yearly inspection when they are seven years old. Some of the inspection stations will do the compulsory insurance. The tax is paid at the DLT (department of land transport) once you have compulsory insurance and the inspection if required. The inspection stations will go to the DLT and get your tax sorted for a small fee, usually about 200 baht, and takes them a few days to do. You can take the documents to the DLT yourself if you don't want to pay the fee. Takes me ten minutes to do at my local DLT.😮

    Hey Ryan, Car dealer here - sounds like your wheels are off balance if the shake is getting worse the faster you go - due to repeated pot holes but a easy fix - you might have a bent rim -
    lower profile tires are not good for rural living as they are more easily damaged - IF you hear a grinding noise when you turn your steering wheel a bit while driving it's a Wheel bearing ( fix that asap safety issue ) -
    you want the mechanic to check your "rack and pinion" if a wheel balance doesn't fix your shake. Love your content and congrats on having such a lovely family.

I’m just guessing so have the car checked it could be any number of reasons that the car shakes at 80 kph. should not be expensive. As for a truck. I have a truck as I see you have access to one so you know the advantages and disadvantages. Get your Mazda 2 properly repaired (maybe try another garage) it should be fine they are reliable cars.

On the newer cars i believe they may have colour coding. But i havent had a car in a long time now. But if you drive without coolant you will distort the cylinder head & if you run out of engine oil you will sieze up your engine. Its verry simple checks you should make like tyre wear & pressurers & depths. Its easy to do & essential.

No doubt you have a mobile therefore do as I do and enter your calendar and set an notification for a week before an expiry. I think they check the distance from the center of the headlights to the ground , ensuring that they are not too low and therefore resulting on you not seeing the road clearly in front of you and more importantly not to high that they are blinding oncoming traffic. Overall compared top Australia you got off very lightly , in Australia they even checked the noise of my exhaust and exhaust emission testing but they check just about everything , even your wipers, all lights, mirrors, horn etc etc .

    It's mainly to make sure the lights are at the right angle and not going to blind oncoming traffic. If it's out normally they can adjust there and then. One problem you have. You can't drive a saxophone. If you have a wheel shake at 80 mph I would get your wheels balanced.

    All of things are normal. You need to have regular maintenance. And you need to get another garage. If they didn't notice the fluids in your car they are incompetent. Your steering, if one of those rods come off or break you will not have any steering. GET IT FIXED IMMEDIATELY!!!
    I'm a woman and I know these basics.

    It happens often and applies to motorcycles as well! It's a real money maker for the police. I try to keep up with my tax stamps and insurance but occasionally miss them. I am taking Google-translated photos of the tax sticker showing the expiration date (in English) and keeping the paper in plain sight. Every car owner must know how to check oil and water levels in their vehicle!

    No sympathy. The taxes are next to nothing. Pay attention to your paperwork. Taxes, insurance and inspections are common everywhere. 5k baht is the additional insurance, the required is about 400 baht.
    Replace all of the suspension bushings while they have the front end apart. They are cheap and can save your life.
    The most annoying part is that the insurance dates do not match the inspection and tax dates.

    Licences are only valid if they have been issued by a country that has a treaty with the Thai Government allowing the mutual acceptance of driving licences. These countries include the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This is the country's driving licence is valid in Thailand.

      You still require an international driving permit as well as your home county license
      I found it easier getting a Thai license as it was a five minute process if you have an international and home country license
      If no international license then the five minute process becomes a drawn out process

    Dude get that steering fixed. It's what is called a tie rod. If that lets loose, the tire will steer all the way in one direction causing you to most likely crash. It's not something to ignore.
