I'm very happy that they reworked diplomacy, so that you invest in the relationship rather than constantly checking with everyone if you can do some convoluted deal. The way resources are traded also sounds like an improvement-although I don't fully understand it yet.
I like how so many people are in an uproar about how civ switching isn't accurate meanwhile the actual historians like the concept. I don't think people get that in a game about alternate history that civs would alternate paths if faced with situations different from how they actually played out in our timeline
I really think it's a minority of very vocal people having a knee jerk reaction to a features we just haven't fully seen how they will be implemented. It's exacibated by youtubers cashing in on the idea of controversy. Everything I've seen so far looks great. I'm expecting a bit of teething issues as with every Civ game but I feel like this one might have less because it is quite different. When Civ 5 came out it felt like all the features of 4 were removed and we got hexes.
My beef with civ switching is that it is not tied to events in your civilization (invasions from outside, revolutions, revolts etc.) but to two points in time (the switch from the first age to the second and the switch from the second to the third) where all civilizations in the world suddenly switch. It's mind-bogglingly stupid and inaccurate and will ruin the immersion.
In my personal opinion allowing fictional civs with the traits of horse riding nomadic Egyptians would be a lot better than simply the mongols just because there are horses arounds . They could make them up and fill them with specific details only history nerds could spot that would give the sense of discovering alternative paths of history more convincing and satisfying.
@@jakeradford9459 Or, maybe they played Humankind and didn't like the civ switching mechanic in that game? Stop bootlicking for 2k and blaming a RUclips conspiracy for the fact people just don't like the concept. 🙄
I'm most looking forward to the economic and influence systems that will be in the game. I think there is a lot of potential for having soft forms of power to use to interact with other civilizations besides using military. I think this is something that was kind of awkward in civ VI with the trading, influence, and grievance system. I think it makes a lot more sense (from a gameplay perspective) to tie all of that to a currency than to leave it up to AI/Player whims and adds a whole knew plane of competition.

Great video tnak you! I am so excited about this new iteration of Civ !
Love these discussions! Just lovely to hear some more thoughtful and insightful justifications and reasonings for supporting or critiquing a game. It's like combining my favourite philosophy RUclipsrs with one of my favourite game series (but historians rather than philosophers of course) :)
Frikin navigable rivers man. Im so hyped for this one thing. Also hyped for being able to play a single era. There isnt a full confirmation on that but mr beach has said you can stick to playing one era. Very hyped to be able to stay in the classical era for once
I totally agree, and playing one era especially speaks to me! I've got the worst attention span and with civ 6 I either win or quit around 200 turns. I'm surprised not many people are talking about this feature, but I guess you don't buy a game at this price to just play 1/3 of it :)
@Paisley_Trees I totally relate to that lmao. I'm not sure I've ever completely finished a match myself haha. But yeah most people live for the tech tree progression lmao
Yep, I started with Civ 1 when I could barely read and write in my native language, let alone english. CIV I was not localised in any shape or form, so it was a great tool for learning when you are a wee one. Regarding animals, for Civ 6 you can try two mods - Sukritact's Resources (Camels, Bison and Shark, among other resources) and Latin American Resources (Llamas and Capybaras). Both work great, are available on Steam and support all modes in Civ 6.
I'm looking forward to experiencing all the new features but I'm hoping my favorite feature just hasn't been revealed yet. I hope that the world is globe in Civ 7. I think that may be part of the reason they've only shown close-up gameplay so far. Zooming out might show the curvature of the planet.
Another civ game ... Still no Kievan Rus' ... Yep, no big deal, it was only the biggest and the first east slavic state in that period which is considered to be the cultural ancestor of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. Genghis Khan is in the game, the guy who basically destroyed Kievan Rus' and yet ... THE THING HE DESTROYED IS NOT IN THE GAME. Man, fuck this shit.

Did I see river boats at the end there? Smashing!
Yes Firaxis has confirmed Navigable Rivers are a thing, and Egypt has a benefit for it.

Wait! A couple of historians talking about my favourite game (-series)? Omg, hell yeah❤️🔥
Also started with Civ III. Wow, I think its been over 20 years

I don't have a favorite, because I like all of the new stuffs. Hopefully we will get to learn more soon.

The Bactrian camel lobby demanded 1% of sales, so we are only getting Dromedary
If you love camels, try Sukritact's Resources mod. There's camels and so much more.
Oh that’s a great idea! I’ll take a look :)

Interesting! At least we do know it will be less flat since it was confirmed that there is “verticality” to the map, so rivers flow downhill.
"The Romans exist in the context of all in which they live and what came before them."
The "barbarians" than can be, unburdened by what has been.
glazing 😂😂😂
I’ll date myself. I started with Civ I.
I wish I was old enough to have experienced the hope and joy of the 90s gaming and internet culture!
I started with Civ2 and Civ3 is my all time favorite Civ
Me too, on the Amiga computer. Fallout 1 as well.
I thought paisley n crow were in their 20's 😅
I guess we were when we started this channel!! But if you saw crows new hairline a couple videos ago you wouldn’t be saying this 😂
Oof. o7
