I am so glad this video exists! I have a 40 gallon tank full of 10 week old firemouth cichlids. I made arrangements with a couple stores to sell them. This is my first time with so many little fish to net and it was disastrous! I only caught 8. I didn’t want any more stress for the little cichlids or myself. I needed help. Thanks to Joel and Cory, I know what to try for round two tomorrow, for starters I just bought a 10” net, twice the size of the one used today...
OMG. So I just did this in my heavily planted aquarium. Needed to remove one fish that was unwell. I had just about given up, when I watched this video. You make it look so easy, but after my previous attempts, I thought No Way. However, your technique worked perfectly! Had the fish calmly in the net all within a few seconds. i couldn't believe it!! This is the most helpful video I think I have watched :)
Great video again Cory! This would help me so much! You did a great job! Your channel is growing so fast 41,5k! I'm 26 away from 1,000! I might hit it this weekend! _Keep up the good work!_ *Thumbs up!*
Thank you for this video! I remember moving rummy nose tetras from my quarantine to my main tank and it being a nightmare cuz they were so fast. They were getting stressed, I was getting stressed. Was not looking forward to trying to move 2 specific ones from my main tank to quarantine. Your tips helped so much, and made it relatively painless. A bigger net helped too lol
Awesome tip Cory.. I used this technique to catch the Danios in my tank. I had given up any hope of getting these out of my tank and was able to catch them using this trip. Thank YOU!!!
Thanks Joel/Cory. I'm only 30 or so years into this hobby. Where the heck were you guys (and RUclips for that matter) in 1987? It's never been that easy for me lol.
I was 10 then but at that time I was more concerned with trying to figure out how to clean my fish tank without killing the fish. The nitrogen cycle is quite a problem for a kid with no mentors no internet and no test kits. Thinking back it's just almost a miracle I figured it out before giving up. Turns out if you can keep your fish from working its mouth all the time. Your water parameters are probably not too far off but when you're fish start talking to you and working their mouth all day long chances are they're stressed and you need to do something.
Thank you so much for this. Simple common sense advice but spot on. I have a heavily planted tank and managed to net the fish I wanted in a few minutes without stress. Thanks again
Thanks Cory for the excellent video. I just found this after attempting the two net system (unsuccessfully) to transfer 20 very fast and anxious Columbian tetra juveniles into a larger tank. Even though I was going slow after a half hour the fish were extremely stressed. Found your video, turned off tank lights for an hour and tried your method and caught three within 10 minutes. I've ordered a larger net and I'm going to repeat the process within a few days. Thanks again! You're awesome!
I just wanted to give a shout out for this method. I started a tank last year and made the mistake of listening to PetCo manager on what starter fish to put in it. The fish she recommended ate up all my plants, then terrorized fish I later added and would suck up all the food before other fish could eat. I tried off and on for a few months trying to catch them. Day before yesterday, I watched this video. Today, I used this very method and caught all four of them and removed them from the tank in under ten minutes... it worked beautifully!! Thanks for this video!!!
thank you so much !!! had to move five 1" tetras out of a 75 gallon aquarium and was worried i would kill them with stress of chasing them down. instead i tricked them into a net and moved them all in less than 15 minutes with no stress to them or me :-) best thing i have learned in a long time.
I wanted to thank Joel and Cory for taking the time to make these videos. I had to go practice after watching. It will make a huge difference in my fish keeping hobby.
Cool thanks buddy that explains it thoroughly! Lots of things I hadn't considered like the number of times the net comes in and out the tank. Cheers ! :)
This is genius! I've had one problem fish in my aquarium that has been a giant pain in my behind to catch. I watched this video and the first time I tried to net it after watching, I caught it! Thank you so much, love all your videos.
Thanks so much for this. I used to have to empty the tank to move fish but now I can catch the individuals I want in a heavily planted tank by moving the fish with a chopstick from it's hiding place and herd it into a net.
Awesome vid! I wish watching this was a requirement for all of the big box fish stores because I HATE watching them catch my fish--it stresses ME out! :-)
Thank you for this video!! Catching a fish may seem like a bit of a no brainier when you have a net but man it's tough! I struggled with catching my pea puffer for about an hour or so, he is just so fast and with his huge eyes he saw me coming every time. Finally got him by leaving my net in the tank for about 15 minutes and slowly trapping him against the wall. Your tips definitely helped.
I would have KILLED to know these tips when I was working at pet stores. Every time a customer would come in and point at one fish they wanted in a tank of 50 individuals, I died a little inside. Great video :D
Great video Cory. The hardest fish to catch to move to the new tank were my 2 Black Kuhli. They are smart and fast. I had to siphon most of the water out with a little bit of grave to bury in. I was exhausted. I need to look at my net to see if it is fine or course. Thanks.
thanks for sharing. I always try to put myself in a calm place in my mind.... and for whatever reason i will say to myself. be smarter than the fish...thanks again..
Thanks a lot! It took me less than 10 minutes to catch the fastest, most hysterical male platy from an overplanted tank. And it put no stress on the fish until the moment I started to lift up the half liter bottle (my net is small and a bigger one cannot fit because of the plants).
I tried setting a trap for BNT in my 75 G and only caught two after 5 hours. Went to my LFS, purchased a big net and caught the rest in 10 minutes! This is an awesome video! PS: I really like the whistling and acoustic guitar music. Seems homey and non-intimidating - which is a refreshing change from other youtube videos
Cory this is a gem thanks for sharing this bec i never seen this technique used in the stores here! thanks now i will might as well catch the fish i want to purchase in the fish stores, bec of this technique it will not stress the fish out to much 😇
Thanks for posting this. I regularly have to take platys to my LFS, and catching them is sometimes stressful -- for me, as well as them. I hand thought about using my hand to chase them into the big net.
Thanks for sharing. I gather you put the eggs into the bucket and then let them hatch there? or did you wait until they hatch and then you removed them with a turkey baster? I didn't hear in the video how they got there in the bucket to start with. Just curious. The young ones you have are very nice. Thanks for posting about #GBR
Had I seen this yesterday I could have saved my fish a lot of stress. Took me 45 minutes to catch the six fish I wanted out of the community tank one by one
Have 5 danios in a 120 gallon I’d like to catch. Thanks for the pointers, but I dunno that I can do the trap in the bottom corner. The tank is to deep.
Did you catch them yet? I have same tank and same problem.. I'm thinking of going to the hobby lobby today and making a make shift dividers than simply scooping them up. They're way too fast.
The problem comes from me filming in 60i instead of 60p. My editors software treats it differently. I've switched now, but I had the option to refilm everything, never put the video out, or put it out like this. So this is the option I went with.
Nice video and super helpful as always! This changes everything for me! Thank you for sharing your knowledge as always dude. Joel nice getting your vid featured! :)
A lot of thanks for the Video! I was moving my fish into a bigger tank, put they put up such a fight in their jungle tank. I was considering to just get rid of all my plants. After watching your Video I got all of them out in under 20 mins. And my plants are still in place :)
Thanks Joel and Corey! Super helpful. What do you do in a planted tank with driftwood? I was doing everything wrong and my net kept getting caught in it. I finally took it out of the tank, but the plants were getting in the way.
interesting video are there any tricks for doing it in a display tank that has a fair few hiding spot apart from removing the scape? I would assume I would have to remove my driftwood to make catching possible. but if you have any other tips I would love to hear them.
I will say, your staff made catching endler look easy :P I was able to point out 5 specific ones, and it took some work, but bam, he caught them one by one. I was just trying to catch ANY fish last night in my 10 gallon, and ended up with an empty net half the time...then again, I was chasing THEM with the net, not visa versa. They're not actually that scared of my hand/arm though...most of the time they start nibbling at my fingers and I have to just shake my head :P Silly curious fish. Oh well... I'll try this tonight, because I still have some boys to transfer!
Wow so happy I subscribed. Am finding value in your videos. That's getting hard to do. I started in the 80s. Most of what I learn now days. I find in Scientific papers. Am good a catching fish. But this looks like it reduces stress some. Always good to reduce as much stress as possible.
Yeah, I read a lot of scientific papers as well. When I was at a wet lab for koi diseases. I learned that a fish being out of water for 5 seconds, will stress them out for over a month. They can detect the raised stress in their blood 30 days later from 1 single event like that.

Aquarium Co-Op I love the thumbnail. Is this a new thumbnail on an older vid?
wonder if you ship to uk. some breeds of goldfish are almost impossible to get here now mostly the lemon coloured ones (outside of the common yellow)
This video just changed my life. 5 ember tetras in a densely planted tank - out in 20 seconds with no replanting needed! Changed my life.
This is so awesome! Catching fish is one of the most frustrating parts for me and I feel like I can try this! Thanks Cory and Joel!

How do you find places to sell your fish?
I think EVERY pet store worker should see this! ;D
OMG. So I just did this in my heavily planted aquarium. Needed to remove one fish that was unwell. I had just about given up, when I watched this video. Another great one Cory. Will be a huge help to people.
Hoping so :)
Thanks Joel/Cory. I'm only 30 or so years into this hobby. Where the heck were you guys (and RUclips for that matter) in 1987? It's never been that easy for me lol.
Daryl MacLeod I was 1 and Cory was 4 in 1987 :D so I guess "in daipers" is the answer. im glad its helping!

One of the most valuable fishkeeping videos I have ever seen. I will bet this video will become one of your top 5 most watched in 6 months.
I wanted to thank Joel and Cory for taking the time to make these videos. I had to go practice after watching. It will make a huge difference in my fish keeping hobby.
No worries :D It all started from a facebook conversation while I was trying (in frustration) to catch something
Cool thanks buddy that explains it thoroughly! Lots of things I hadn't considered like the number of times the net comes in and out the tank. Cheers ! :)
Joel Gillott sorry if you get this a lot Joel, but you have the BEST accent lol!!! :D
Haha yes I do get that a lot! Thanks Gianne :)
Joel Gillott you sounded exactly like I thought you would lol.
Haha yep even for a kiwi my accent is thick
burningfyra "Krubensis"
Cory the magician! You always know when I need info, then a video covering that just that comes out!!!!
This is genius! I've had one problem fish in my aquarium that has been a giant pain in my behind to catch. I watched this video and the first time I tried to net it after watching, I caught it! Thank you so much, love all your videos.
Using the larger net was a game changer. Thank you!
This is clearly where experience creates a master!,
This video is pure gold. Thanks for making it!
I’ve been trying to catch a tiger barb in my 55 gallon for weeks now. Thank you so much
Great Video! Thanks Joel for suggesting this video! It helped me a lot!
This was a very helpful video, thank you Joel & Cory!!
Thanks so much for this. I used to have to empty the tank to move fish but now I can catch the individuals I want in a heavily planted tank by moving the fish with a chopstick from it's hiding place and herd it into a net.

Thank you Joel and Cory!
I finally transferred my SAE to a bigger tank thanks to this video! You're awesome, Cory!!!
Perfect! All my fish have now settled for the night so will be trying this tomorrow. Those Danios are too quick for me! Thanks Corey
Thank you for this video!! Catching a fish may seem like a bit of a no brainier when you have a net but man it's tough! thanks Cory, my problem is a lot of decorations, Rocks, wood & plants, the fish hide. Not so easy. Good tip to wait and try again the next day.
move the decor as a corral for the net to make it easier to trap the fish.
I would have KILLED to know these tips when I was working at pet stores. Every time a customer would come in and point at one fish they wanted in a tank of 50 individuals, I died a little inside. Great video :D

Thank you so much! I was having real trouble and finding it hard, epic video!
Great tutorial! Very helpful, thanks!
Thanks a lot!

Bocskai Csaba i struggled to catch a danio once
Nice tips Cory...thanks!
Watched this video a few times. For some reason I find it entertaining enough to rewatch though I have the info already.
Great tips ! Thank you !
Thank you!! This will be so much better than chasing my poor fish with the net and only catching decor in the net! 😂
Wow, if only this was made a week earlier. Wrecked my planted tank trying to catch guppies and took over an hour
excellent job cory and demo
That was incredibly helpful! Maybe I can show a few people I know how to do this!! Thank you for this!
I spent 2 hours trying to get a Cory cat out of my tank. No joke
Ive been at it for 2 hours now. No luck.
I spent two days
They are the most annoying fish to try and catch
I am here on this video because I'm trying to net a sick cory.. pray for me
I have so many to move pray for me.
good info, thanks.. anything to reduce stress.
This just made my day. Thanks!
he is a good teacher
So cool! like herding sheep! Cory is a Fish whisperer!
Thanks! This video was very helpful in removing a very aggressive cichlid from my 55g cichlid tank.
Awesome video! Really helpful 👍
Cory this is a gem thanks for sharing this bec i never seen this technique used in the stores here! thanks now i will might as well catch the fish i want to purchase in the fish stores, bec of this technique it will not stress the fish out to much 😇
Very helpful.. Next question how do you get them out of the net and into a bag or other container?
Attempting to catch juvenile kribs, lelupi, multise, and yellow labs. Thanks for the pointers.
Thanks for posting this. I regularly have to take platys to my LFS, and catching them is sometimes stressful -- for me, as well as them. I hand thought about using my hand to chase them into the big net.
terrific, thanks and thanks to Joel because catching fish for me is a nightmare
Thanks Cory that was a very informative video and I appreciate it
Thanks Joel!

Great video cory, is it my device or does the video quality not look the best?
Caleb's Rc crawlers. ya me too
Mark Fernandez oh ok, so its not just me.
The problem comes from me filming in 60i instead of 60p. My editors software treats it differently. I've switched now, but I had the option to refilm everything, never put the video out, or put it out like this. So this is the option I went with.
Aquarium Co-Op oh ok, Cory thats quite alright you still have great content.
Wow impressed! Thanks for the vid!
fish catching MASTER! haha holy crap. everyone needs to see this!
So good! Ha! I gave up on catching a school in my scaped tank. Watched this video and then caught the whole school within 90 seconds. Crazy!
Thank you ... i'd loove to seen more about this
Well said. Great info
Nice video and super helpful as always! This changes everything for me!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge as always dude.
Joel nice getting your vid featured! :)
Im fish-amous
A lot of thanks for the Video! I was moving my fish into a bigger tank, put they put up such a fight in their jungle tank. I was considering to just get rid of all my plants.
After watching your Video I got all of them out in under 20 mins. And my plants are still in place :)
You're awesome man. So helpful for a newb.
Few days ago I used a similar technique with Ancistrus babies (had a bottle instead of the net) but wasn't smart enough to port it to netting.
Thanks!
Great video Cory
Thank you so much! This is the one thing that I struggle with. I usually get so frustrated and just give up.
You're my hero, Cory!🙏😂
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks Joel and Corey! Super helpful. What do you do in a planted tank with driftwood? I was doing everything wrong and my net kept getting caught in it. I finally took it out of the tank, but the plants were getting in the way.
Great! I was hoping for this. I have two pleccos in my shrimp tank. I will try it without destroying the whole aqua scape
Thank you Cory! Im new to the hobby.... Your videos have been so helpful. Now I'm confident I can catch my Otto cats to move to a my new tank😆
Otos are tricky :P
THANK YOU REALLY NEEDED THIS
Great advice :) enjoyed this video a lot! Good work
Hey cory could you do a video about the care of the loaches
You make it look easy. :)
Thank YOU!
very helpful video thanks
interesting video are there any tricks for doing it in a display tank that has a fair few hiding spot apart from removing the scape? I would assume I would have to remove my driftwood to make catching possible. but if you have any other tips I would love to hear them.
You set the trap, and guide the fish, this works for aquascaped tanks too.
Thanks Corry, I will try to catch my last 2 ember tetra tomorrow to move to my new nano tank 22ltr.
I will say, your staff made catching endler look easy :P I was able to point out 5 specific ones, and it took some work, but bam, he caught them one by one. what a great video. awesome method!
