For anyone who is having this problem and afraid of doing this method I just fixed mine yesterday. I didn't trust alcohol so I bought a can of electric cleaner. You can buy it at auto zone O'Reilly etc. I held the camera at the same angle he does in the video and sprayed it in the battery compartment until there was about a 16th of an inch build up in the corner above the shutter button and started pressing the button until it was completely dry. Waited about 5 minutes and tried the shutter button and it didn't work so I tried it again pressing the button about 40/50 times waited 5 minutes and it worked perfectly I did it one more time for good measure. You don't have to wait 24 hrs with electronic cleaner it dries almost instantly. 5-15 minutes is more than enough. Hope this helps someone!
I think my shutter on my mirrorless camera was not working because of salt water damage. It was not working for over a year. I only use the touch screen. Will this still cure my shutter?
Thank you. I'll give it a try on my Canon T7i. I took it to a camera repair shop, and the guy told me it was b/c of the spot meter setting. It wasn't. $70 down the drain. It has worked off and on. Now it's not working again. I'll give this a try. How much alcohol did you release into the camera? Just a drop or 2? I don't know the reason mine jammed.
I have a canon 10D which I love so much.. they dont cost that much at all nowadays, I love using it more than the mark ii , but for some reason the shutter button works fine half way to focus but when pressed all the way to take a photo I really have to press really hard that my hand shakes a little .. the camera is in mint condition .. so... I appreciate you sharing this .. I have put a few drops of alcohol directly onto the shutter button itself instead of going through the inside ... I hope that helps ... waiting now for it to dry and I will let you know if it works smoothly afterward or not.
@@tahademir27 not the first time... but the second time i was a lille more generous with rubbing alcohol and that fixed it... never had to open up the camera to apply.
Thanks. This worked for me with my 40d shutter button. Yet another good use of isopropyl alcohol) I used a 10ml syringe, needle helps, but not necessary. Removing the battery compartment cover is very helpful. Makes the work easier. For safety's sake, I kept a camera a little more diagonal like, so the button and the shutter speed wheel are its lowest point. Feared the liquid getting close to sensor. Keeping the camera with one hand, and rapidly pressing and wriggling and "working out" the button, while slowly pouring through syringe into the battery compartment with the other hand, requires some coordination, and the "button pressing finger" can get tired quickly. You might want to first try without the liquid to get used to the movements, beforehand, as preparation, and then proceed with the liquid for real. Found out most of the liquid pours out through shutter speed wheel. That was the case for my 40d and 50d. Not a big deal, the shutter wheel started feeling a tad crisper afterwards. But immersing the button in liquid requires constant flow, so 10ml feels like very little. I used 3-4 syringes for good measure. Isopropyl is not expensive, and I had spare 5l of it, thankfully. Isopropyl evaporates real quickly. Not nice nor safe to breathe it. I found out that any small rag, even used shirt or a sock, if put beneath a camera so that drops fall on it, gets the liquid in itself, and afterwards I just put it outside. dries out real fast, and isopropyl is sterile and completely evaporates. On second thought, since isopropyl is water soluble, moderately wet rag works even better since it slows the evaporation. So less fumes in the process.
Just tried this as an alternative to disassembling my 40D. It works great! I used compressed air in a can made for electronics and blew out around the shutter button, then poured the alcohol in with a straw and let it dry.
Here we go it’s dripping oh yeahhh that’s a nice sound here we go arwww yeah that’s a nice sound here we goo here we goooo that’s the sound of $120 here we goo
Hahaha, that's the sound of hundred twenty bucks!!! I just bought a camera with broken shutter that's why I'm here. When it comes in I hope this fixes it!
Hi On My Conon 60D when I press the shutter button the top LED says busy and the camera won’t take photos and the main LED screen won’t work has anyone have any idea what is going wrong and how to fix this Thanks Ian
Did it on my 40D. Used a syringe with needle, not a spoon.
Worked like a charm!
Thanks!

My 50d is starting to work. Using a straw instead of a spoid is also a good tip.

Ian Dickson I need an answer for that too

you put alcohol INSIDE THE battery compartment?
