Lamborghini LM002 - the 'Rambo Lambo' Restoration is complete | Tyrrell's Classic Workshop

- The LM002 or 'Rambo Lambo' has been an unmissable presence in the background of the workshop for a good while now, and after months of careful restoration, it's time for this fine example to take centre-stage. Few cars come with such a remarkable story of how they came in to being and Iain plots that history of Lamborghini's military aspirations that were doomed to failure before being resurrected as this truly pioneering example of a high-powered off-road 4x4 vehicle that are now so commonplace on today's roads.
With restoration complete, it's time for the car's first road test, but not before a final check on the engine, with the help of new recruit Alex as Iain passes on his skills to the next generation.
00:00 - Introduction and history of the car
08:56 - Engine tuning
16:07 - Road test
24:10 - Outro
And as the channel reaches the milestone of 100,000 subscribers, thank you once again to everyone for the overwhelming reception of these videos and for all the support of likes, subscribes and wonderful comments.

A huge thank you to all our loyal viewers and subscribers who have helped us achieve two milestones in the last week as we passed 100,000 subscribers and 6 million views. We could never have imagined those numbers when we sat out on this venture a couple of years ago.
More than a few thanks to Harry’sGarage. Congrats.
Congratulations on 100K subs, the stories you give us with the history & knowledge you have, thank you, Rj in Oz
With content such as this, the milestone is not terribly eye opening. You always knock it out of the park.
Congrats! And a big thanks to you for the wonderful content of your channel!
Iain, could you please clarify: this late injection engine is 5.2 from Countach Annivarsary or 5.7 from early Diablo? Info on the Internet differs from source to source.
It's great to see someone even younger than me being trained in the fine art of true car mechanics!
As for your channel's success, it's the pure quality you offer. Your videos are a joy to every petrolhead: thank you.
Great to see Alex.
he is not that young. looks mid 30`s.
Great to see your young ‘sorcerer’s apprentice’ being inducted into the tuner’s art…. The reason your channel is being so successful is not only your extensive knowledge but how you deliver it to your viewers, you treat us as adults as does Harry Metcalf (Harry’s Garage) and long may both your success continue 👍
Bugger! I was going to use that term, but you beat me to it. :-)
I was looking for word to explain on how their delivery to viewer is, and you're correct. I found that James on JayEmm on Cars has similar delivery. I also think that Hagerty guy like Magnus Walker and the guy who talks about barn finds also has similar delivery. Does anyone has recommendation for other channel?
...and there's (literally) a 'New Boy In Town' - the channal is called "Twin-Cam", going through the joys and horrors of primarily British cars from the 60ies and on. Young guy with passion, insight, and a 'Richard Attenborough'sk' delevery - GREAT ruclips.net/user/TwinCamvideos
‘Sorcerer’s apprentice’ I’m definitely getting hints of Dumbledore and particularly Harry Potter’😂
I like the “hi-tech” rubber hose and special🪛 thing; just amazes me with his straight faced
Sense of Humor; Keep it Up 👍
Having to work on a car whilst the "gaffer" watches AND BEING FILMED, Alex has nerves of steel. Cheers Mr Tyrrell for another lovely vid.
"Acoustic sensing device," hilarious.
Iain's channel is the only one I give a "thumbs up" before the video even begins - I already know.
“21:33”
Mr Tyrrell: “I do have one or two customers with Countaches who do drive their cars very fast. But the less said about that the better.”
Mr Metcalf: “Yes, I should think so, too.”
Another great video Iain and absolutely brilliant to see you passing on your wealth of knowledge to Alex.
🤣🤣🤣
Nothing nicer than seeing a Master pass down his knowledge to a young apprentice. Mr. Tyrrell must be a great boss to work for.
Can you imagine having Mr Tyrrell peering over your shoulder as you attempt to listen to the throttle tones...on camera?! Ha ha! That lad must've flipped his boxers over after the camera shut off.
Probably very demanding.
But with the cars and owners he deals with, there's no "good enough" jobs being done in there.
None, nada, niet. You do the job properly or you walk. No second chance, I'm sure.
@@marcryvon Agreed. Working for someone of his stature and reputation must be nerve-wracking. One mistake could see a priceless bit of history irrevocably damaged. High pressure indeed.
Living proof that the spoken word has so much more impact than Wikipedia. You are an extraordinarily knowledgable chap, Mr Tyrrell:) Thank you
Being an apprentice like this is lost on a bunch of youth nowadays here in Canada. It's even lost on the gov't clowns thinking everybody needs to go to university. They all have their place, and this type of skilled labour is always going to be in demand. Love the videos Iain!
Great to see Iain passing on the dark arts to the new generation. We need more youngsters with these skills to keep our old chariots alive. Most mechanic shops only teach electronic diagnosis these days 😭
Alex, what you are learning is priceless, please for the love of God never undervalue what information you have been taught today, without you it will be lost forever, cherish every moment you have with Iain, with this you have a job for the rest of your life :)
What an humble man.
Dear Iain Tyrrell. What a lovely sense of humour….and what amazing knowledge!
The rain coat joke was high quality. Very much enjoyed. Bravo.
'We're here now so you might as well surrender!' 🤣😂👌
Fabulous Vid! A historical lesson I've wanted for over 25 years. Thank you again!
Great opportunity young man, grab it with both hands.
Glad you are passing down your knowledge to the next generation
Nice one Iain! In the early 90s I worked for the BeeGees (I'm a musician) and spent a lot of time at their studio on Miami Beach. Maurice Gibb used to turn up in a metallic brown Porsche 928 which, apparently, had previously belonged to Ferdinand Porsche's son. However, one day he arrived in one of these, in silver with red leather interior and insisted on taking me for a spin round the block! The engine sounded fab but you could really feel the weight and it rolled a lot. He'd p/ex'd it for the Porsche at Miami's Auto Toy Store - it had previously belonged to an Arab Sheikh and still had the mounting ring for a heavy machine gun in the back! He kept it for a few weeks and then got the Porsche back! 😁 Happy days, and RIP to a lovely man. ❤️
Iain as one's boss - a mechanic's dream come true.
What a awesome highend 1980s Lambo Rambo i love it
That's the nicest LM002 I've ever seen 👍
The quietest for sure. You usually cannot hear the commentary for the roar of the V-12.
I know everyone is going to say this but i'll say it anyway, it's great so see Iain passing his skills on to the next generation. There are some skills you can't learn out of a book and all too often they just get lost to time.
One of my favorite Lamborghinis, but it looks so ..."off", with the narrow wheels & tires vs. the standard Scorpions and the wheels they came mounted on.
I'm sure it makes tire replacement much easier, and a LOT cheaper though. I hear reproductions of the Scorpions can run a couple thousand dollars per tire!
Congrats on your channel's success; well deserved!
Love the special tool for balancing the throttles
I don’t think I’ve ever clicked faster on a vid from Tyrell’s!
Lucky kid to be around Mr Tyrrell and this type of automotive excellence is amazing. Cherish every minute of it. Things like these are rare
Well done, Alex! You've been ordained into the order of the Sacred Hose-pipe!
"Acoustic Sensing Device" - hahahaha - love it!
This was the first Lamborghini I ever saw in person, and in Nashville,TN of all places too. I was with my father and we drove past a fancy hotel, I noticed it, and said go back so we can look at the Lamborghini. He said there wasn't a Lamborghini there because he was thinking of the Countach that I had on my wall. We went back , and I showed him the "Rambo Lambo" to which he was very surprised that such a thing existed,Haha. I read A LOT about cars back then ,and still do now too ,of course.
What a `Life` opportunity for Iain`s apprentice Alex. I would have given ANYTHING to have that kind of opportunity and start in life. Enjoy and learn from the MASTER. Every day going into work would be a joy !!!! Stay safe ALL
Yes, a "brilliant idea" as Monsieur Iain would say. To make sure there is a continuation of all his tremendous experience and knowledge. This kid has a bright future !
Yoda and the pupil”this is not the induction tune you are looking for” as he waives his tuning pipe across the engine
Yoda... 🤣 "The force, Alex, THE force !" 🤣🤣🤣
I saw one of these about 30+yrs ago at the entrance to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu. I was about 15yrs old at the time as was mesmerized by all things automotive. I remember being in awe of its sheer size, scale and most importantly it's presence. It had an aura all it's own.
I lived close to where the Norwegian importer of Lamborghini was located in Oslo in the mid 80's. It was right behind the Frogner Park (equivalent to Hyde Park/Kensington Garden in London) and the site was/is actually an old farm. At one point, they had parked three brand new LM002s on the footbridge up to the barn. It was truly an impressive sight :)

"There was a Lamborghini Jalpa abandoned..." 😱😱😱
Ditto - but in a gated in driveway / carpark outside a VERY nice home in Russian Hill (San Francisco). It was red and I've been daydreaming while checking classified ads since
What a golden moment for your young trainee . Learning analog engine adjustment basics👍👍
✌️🇺🇲
Tyrrell could easily have made a living as an actor or comedian. This is as amusing as it is interesting.
I've got to say, it's not just the learning I get with every video, that makes this channel special it is also Iain's subdued humour.
Oh you got one of those in, how fun.
there is never be a cooler 4x4 than the lm002
FAB, as usual - classic car geek heaven....
As with Mr Metcalfe, I like the “grown up” delivery of the videos. And I come away from watching with a definite sense of having been educated. Which, like the rest of your viewers I imagine, rather appreciate.
Congratulations on your milestone of followers. Thoroughly deserved.
I saw this car many times as a kid. In central Poland in the 90s that was something. It is nice to see it properly restored. Owner is local legend ;)
Iain tells the best, most complete and contextualized stories in the business. Always captivating. Well done!
Thank you for sharing your workshop with us, and the cars you work on. Your interview with Dallara not only had insight from the man himself, we also got to see him happily drive a Miura after decades. Here's to upward and onward
I have thoroughly enjoyed all 36 of your videos.
Iain, two points the first is thank you for the videos they’ve been really interesting and varied both my son and I enjoy them all. The second point is it’s good to see Alex learning the trade as a young person learning to work with classic cars must be a bonus and I hope we can see him progress through his training for which he’s lucky to have someone with your skills to mentor him.
Fascinating! How fortunate is Alex to be learning from Iain?!
Iain's passing the torch, well magic tube ✨
The Notting Hill quip was priceless...
Oh, to be an apprentice under Mr. Tyrrell. The stuff of dreams!
Thank you dear Mr. Tyrrell one more time.
Wonderful to see you training up the next generation.
LOVE the videos, A Chef by profession but a life long fan of all things cars. How lucky are you to work on all those amazing cars.
a pleasure for us ! thx indeed !
it's always nice to see the king of the jungle teach his cub.
Iain, sir, you are one badass gentleman. An inspiration for me an many. Been watching you since the start, thanks for Harry's garage for tipping about you early on! All the best for you and your workshop, I wish these videos never end.

I have no clue why lambo hasn’t made an updated version of this. This car is such a head turner
VW did. Its called urus.
The I’m talking about an offroader not a family truckster
@@elpuzzlo6800 so tuareg that is base for urus i think.
Training up the next generation. Awesome.
Wonderful! So interesting! Love the back story. Love this channel. Well done for passing on your knowledge and training up another generation. Thank you Iain! ❤️
I love the hose pipe. Priceless 😂😂😂
YOU are the lifeblood of this channel. Thanks a lot Iain for sharing your huge knowledge with us.
I’ve seen the LM002 reviewed before, but no one does it with as much class as you. 👍🏻
No, thank you for taking the time and sharing all this.
The man from Del Monte ! 🤣 great reference. Thank you for the video.
AWESOME! I'm in rural Canada and was lucky to see one at a museum in Geneva some years ago! Thanks for keeping these gems on the road.
Awesome Rambo Lambo!!! 😎🤙🇨🇮🇺🇸
That piece of rubber hose should be your merchandise Ian!
at the end when Iain thanks his subscribers ... no sir , thank you for taking the time to make these videos
Nice to see younger folks learning a solid trade
Highly interesting and educational, as always. Thanks for the wonderful review!
Cheers from the Canadian Rockies l*l
and again.
Good to see Alex learning how to tune a V12 engine
Great, as always !
Up to 200k subscribers.
This channel deserves it.
I think it´s great that you have a younger mechanic learning beside you.
Loved the little lesson given on the throttle adjustment.
It would be great to see if you could get a mic on the end of the hose to give us all an insight into the difference in noise or pitch you are listening for. Also fabulous to see your young apprentice learning these skills, what a teacher to have!
Lovely to see the master passing on his knowledge to the apprentice. Always look forward to your episodes Iain...thank you.
Good job training the young man. With ur knowledge of classics, it’s important to pass it on to a generation born after these cars were even manufactured.
I really enjoy seeing masters of their craft passing on technique and knowledge. Even if it is just a "bit of pipe".
A nice Sunday evening of RUclips viewing. First Harry with his completed Rolls Royce, and a lovely drive into London. And then Ian’s video on the Lambo. And so nice to see you passing on the trade to another generation!
Don't forget Harry's farm video, haha...
Just a brilliant channel , here’s to the next figure milestone, Sunday evening entertainment at its best , and you and Harry need to do some more content together soon !!!!!
My new favorite car channel. Move over Jay Leno.
From Poland -
intriguing
Childhood dream car poster on the wall.
A new carburettor whisperer is being trained.
Better than what the BBC put out that's for sure
Easily one of the best channels I’ve found to enjoy
Finest machines, best reconstruction and rebuilds
Much appreciated
Please continue this great work!

Beautiful, black with a balcony on the back, allways loved these since the first one I had anything to do with in 1986 I think. Youve had two of my top ten cars on the last two shows, nice one Ian. The Lagonda was stunning.
Absolutely fascinating video - I recall this car very well and it is close to my heart because in the late 1980s I experienced some horrendous medical problems over a 2 year period including several months in skull traction….I read quite a few car mags at the time with one including an in-depth feature of the LM002 - I thought to myself I must fight and fight to get better and rejoin that wonderful world, beyond my hospital bed, that is able to create such gloriously daft but desirable trinkets as a V12, petrol fuelled, 3 tonne, dune buggy….it was an inspiration and proof that life was worth living and fun!
The Lamborghini Ferrari & Porsche tool looks like its out of the ‘adults only’ catalog. A true multi-tool
No thank you Iain, for putting the time and effort in to making your entertaining films. Like most people who can't own one of the cars your lucky enough to drive. It's a great way for people to share the same experience of driving them as yourself Iain. Plus it shows owning one of these classic cars isn't a cheap hobby as well.
I’ll take it Happy Sunday indeed !
Iain, please sell Tyrrell-branded acoustic black rubber hoses for 40 quids and become a zillionnaire as you deserve.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!
I actually click like when the film starts because I know I'm going to love it, thanks Ian
At first I thought to myself it’s not that quick at all then realised the Speedo is in 20mph increments and starts at 20mph! Epic!
Ah, thanks for that. I couldn't read the speedo and was trying to guess what speeds he was doing. Cheers
Iain, you deserve the best because you create an unique channel.
Many thanks.
Thank you Iain for such informative & entertaining videos. 100k subs were never more deserved.
I want to see more of that beautiful blue and sexy 3500/4000GT in the background. The lines on those cars are my favorite of Italian design.
I became aware of the LM002 from a 60 Minutes interview of Tina Turner, many years ago. She had a red one and took Mike (I think) for a nice spin. Been fascinated by the LM ever since.
That something I'd like to see ! Tiny Tina a.k.a The legs, driving this huge "car" ! 🤣
She had beautiful legs. That's a fact.
Dream job for the young guy. Nice to see.👍
Well done Alex, you’ll have a a job for life after this apprenticeship
