@@ScarfAndGoggles I second a guy for this, I mean if Concord can be a movie on USSR race between UK, France, USA making a plane for super sonic flight first or have a movie on guy from New Zealand, Worlds fastest Indian or UK Green Monster, I would like to see a movie on Thrust/Thrust 2 and Blue Flame, first past 630 MPH and a sequel Thrust SSC Vs Spirit of America II.
It was an amazing opportunity to interview Richard and then be invited to the museum for the reunion. The footage from 1983 was the result of a conversation at that event. Amazing where life can take you!
Richard........you are an absolute legend.......and a fabulous chap. It was a pleasure helping with your projects and left some very special memories for me ( kept in my photo album diary ) God Bless you
Really great work, and a very enjoyable and interesting watch. Thanks very much for this series. And also appreciate your past efforts too. long time watcher, infrequent commenter. Always appreciate the interesting detail, good narration. Always well put together on the whole. God bless, Merry Christmas
Thank you, really enjoyed this final part, true British spirit, we need more people like Richard. Great to hear him recount his experience, and of course he needed the team, who were no doubt motivated by his leadership and determination.
If this does not bring a smile to your face, you've come to the wrong channel! Please, please make this into a feature film! It's got all the ingredients!
It's heartening to hear the Trust Securities story. I'm so glad that a company has benefited so directly from their sponsorship. That's why any company that supports motorsports goes directly to the top of my list when considering a product or service. Well done them.
Thankyou S&G for a very good record of Thrust 2 and, of course, thankyou to Richard, John, Ken and the team for making it happen and the inspiration they have given to generations of budding engineers.
For me Richard is a fine chap that has inspired many people to do different things. Richard, you're awesome and so are the people who have worked with you. 😀👍
Loved following this series, as a child of the 80s was a big thing growing up and we went to see Thrust 2 but didn't know the detail until now so many thanks for sharing. What an achievement by the team, true underdog spirit and adventure
What a story S&G - I am totally captivated by the series on Thrust 2 - if Richard Noble approached me for help and even I didn't know him I could not say no - he's just that charismatic infectious enthusiastic person - you can still see that fire in him as he recounts the events of the late 70s and early 80s - Thanks so much for putting all this together !
Absolutely fantastic to watch and listen to Richards dialogue of what it's like becoming the fastest man on earth!, at that time. I really enjoyed seeing that. Thank you.
I take my hat off to you sir . It's people like you and the traits you exhibit in your endeavour that make me truly proud to be a member of the human race
Thanks for putting this together very heartening to see this from a time when it meant something to be British, we all new which way was up and Richard and the team gave two fingers to the rest of the world. Always seeing those films of the runs across the desert in 1983 really brought home what it was all about. It could have all gone so very different if the RAF hadn't have volunteered the rebuild! Hats off to all involved.
"400mph is boring. You want to get out and walk" 😮 That aside, I've driven "only" up to a few mph beneath 200 and there are stages where you start to look further and further down the road. Your vision narrows and your mental processes speed up. Richard explained it perfectly... but at far far more serious speeds again.
WOW S+G. thanks for that. Absolutely brilliant to listen to 1st hand chat with Richard. I worked at GKN Sankey at the time he was on the scrounge. I never realised how instrumental we had been in those early days.
Thrust 2 went on a tour of the UK around this time. I went to see it displayed in my local leisure centre I think. I’d just started high school. Seeing it inspired me to get into engineering. I now design aircraft for a living.
Great work as always. Working on such a project is a once-in-a-lifetime oportunity and this team sure took the best of it. Insane the detail that if they went 7 km/h faster the car would've gone airborne.
Bravo! Very well narrated, and the stories are fascinating. I used to wonder about these land speed records, reading about them on the pages of Guinness Book of Records as a kid. Thanks to your channel, I have some answers, and have learned about these brave, brilliant people who made it all happen. Thank you, S&G!
Incredible interview, so happy you where able to get these stories from Richard. It's a shame nobody was able to interview other land speed legends like this, Imagine if someone had done this same with Donald Campbell.
What a brilliant series, thank you! Could listen to Richard talk about his exploits for hours - he's so enthusiastic, charismatic and self deprecating. What a fantastic achievement by all involved. Cheers S&G 👍
An extraordinary story, humbly but extraordinarily told. A wonderful bookend too, S&G, to your telling of the older stories, thank you for this irreplaceable record.
Excellent upload Scarf and Goggles. I doubt you'll upload again before Christmas so I hope you and everyone have a great holiday. It's funny he says everything slows down at speed. I've been over 200mph several times racing sport bikes and experienced it around 130-150mph where everything slows down and you can process everything coming at you so incredibly fast. The human brain is an amazing thing.
Thanks so much for this series. As much as I thought I already knew about the whole Thrust 2 project, it’s thrown up some wonderful snippets of new info.
What a brilliant channel, the footage with Richard Noble describing the run gave me goosebumps, that must have been amazing to witness! Thank you so much for such a well put together video , cheers
@@ScarfAndGoggles Shook hands with Mr Noble once upon a time when they toured with the car etc. around the sponsors 'post' success. IMI Norgren in Shipston on Stour, doing my A levels at the time. Cheers.
Fantastic series and I enjoyed it beyond words. I remember when it was going on and the occasional blurbs in the news, but being way pre internet, not a lot of info. And of course you only would hear they failed or were succesful, nothing of the struggles involved ( at least here in the states). And on a tangental sidenote, as an old motorcycle desert racer, I have a special hate in my heart for the Sierra Club. Screw those assholes.
Anybody who breaks a land or water speed record is cut from another cloth I think but regardless this is an astonishing achievement and amazing story all round, Richard Noble must of been a pleasure to talk to and the next story is Thrust WSH which is another ball game entirely ❤
300 to 500 is boring 😂😂😂😂 yeah i know he feeling, it happens alot on the M4 commute. Anything below 500 is tedious 😂😂😂😂. But i guess for a man who went way over 600 then anything slower simply doesnt get the pulse going and the adrenaline pumping. Excellent channel. Love what youve covered. Ive learnt a lot about a subject that has fascinated me since going to Beaulieu motor museum on a school field trip back in the 70s or 80s and seeing Bluebird and the other land speed record breaking cars.
Hello from Gerlach Nevada, the Blackrock desert and of course "The Miners Club". I finally had to leave this once great town and its huge dry lake bed, Burning Man ruined the town and playa....sad.
Good things happen to good people. Wish you guys could get that car with Sir Andy Green to the magic 1000 mph. Andy is probably the only man who could get it there. I hope somehow someway you give it another go at it.
Not only did RAF Binbrook rebuild the engine, they rebuilt it to a higher spec with more thrust. Which was probably ultimately necessary for getting the record.
This channel is criminally underappreciated.
Couldn't agree more! ;)
The story is incredible. This NEEDS to be a movie
