Well, bigger doesn’t mean better. A lot if times the minors with more focuses have less substance to their focuses. Like the (only) two civ focuses for Germany giving six civs each. That’s 140 days for 12 civs. Most minors will get less civs than that for their entire economic tree, and that may take a year to complete, if not more

Just did the Ethiopian Run myself. Stuck with the Monarch, guy has a fancy title, who am I to argue, and had him stay in the nation. I admit I kind of futzed around a lot and didn't do things optimally. I had "Fait Accompli" basically ready to go for about two years before I clicked it to get out of the war. Mostly because I was amused by the chaos that having the war going on was causing. Italy gets a ticking -1% warscore at max escalation every week. When World War 2 kicked off they were at (due to it) 2% War Support and 12% Stability. The French almost capitulated them before they were last minute saved by the Nazis taking Paris. Not to mention I had Libya spit out two nations from their instability it seemed with a Kingdom of Libya like you saw in this run, and a Lybian Electorate Democracy. The insanity of it all lead to the fact that Albania apparently refused annexation by Italy (though did join the Axis), and Greece actually declared war on Albania instead of Italy starting up Balkan things. It was... gloriously stupid in some of the weird effects that came out of it before I decided I had finished screwing over Italy (and the Axis) enough and actually did Fait Accompli. I did however find the "Foster Rebellion" sort of thing... yeah. It's tedious. And doesn't work if you don't basically beeline right to it skipping out on a lot of important "Fix your nation that has nothing" sort of stuff. I only ended up getting French Somaliland out of it. Sad because I kind of like the concept of it, but between how the UK starts the game with what, like 80% compliance in those regions anyway, and how little you get out of it... yeah. It's kind of sad. Side note also was disappointed that kind of like the Canada tree where you have to choose between: "Do you want to make stuff, or do you want to have manpower?" Ethiopia has a similar "Do you want to actually have resources, or do you want to have research?" option. That was very painful.
The war participation going down with lend lease gives me an idea: Sit there as a country in the middle of nowhere without a focus tree (let’s just go with NZ) and slowly try and dwindle everyone else’s war score in a war
Nice idea, but NZ doesn't have much of an industry... USA lend-lease only could be interesting though - slowly drain the UK and USSR's war score until you alone can decide the future of Europe after they capitulate Germany. However the countries you lend-lease to will gain war score using the equipment you give them, so this strategy may not be possible
