the old school way. No fly Kicks, breathing on first stroke , high tempo. Salnikov should be proud of him. 🔥

As would Jörg Hoffmann. It works for him as it did for them. Incredible increase in rating in the last 200. He's on fire.

As a mid distance, long distance, & triathlete I always advice swimmers to be efficient with their energy. Breathing is important

Wiffen has an interesting breathing pattern. First, he primarily breathes to the right going one way and to the left going the other way, which keeps his stroke balanced. Here he also skips a breath on the penultimate stroke before each wall, I think so that he can breathe on his very last stroke before the turn (so, e.g., he'll be breathing every stroke to the right but then, on his second-to-last left-arm stroke of the lap, he'll keep his head down so that he can breathe to the left during his final stroke of the lap with his right arm).

Wiffen also looks back a little on his breath, but this helps his non-breathing arm stay in an extreme EVF during the catch

Does it mean anything that the record was set in a short course pool?

Bubbles on his hands don't matter; they're worth it to keep the momentum moving forward

    Get in son...
I wonder if he didn't breathe so frequently would he have gone even faster 🇨🇮🇬🇧

I don't think so, because he needs so much oxygen to swim so fast so long ! Keeping the bioenergetic level so high requires much oxygen

It's wild that they don't use flags anymore in international competitions. Are people jumping that high with the goofy new launchpad on the blocks? I have terrible vision, and I always used the flags to help me calibrate where I was for every stroke.

Anybody got one with English commentary, no commentary or closed captions? And that gap is the size of a typical Ledecky gap.

He has a drinking problem. He was the head coach in a club where I used to train back in the 90's.
