  • What's the deal with beech? Ethan discusses the natural history, ecology and management of American beech trees in New England. Learn about the role that beech played in our forests historically versus the role that it plays today, the way that beech bark disease has changed its behavior and its ecology, and what that means for how we manage forests for biodiversity, ecological integrity, wildlife habitat and more.

Nice and to the point! I've been doing a lot of thinning of beach that has beech bark disease but leaving those that still look good. It has become the dominant understory tree which as you point out stifle diversity of species.
