I have those same shoes. I really like them, and with this comment I realize that I am getting old when I start noticing shoes, LOL. Great video. I just started playing 2 months ago and have been working on my game, forehand, dinking and now slowly working on backhand. Thank you.
So, I wasn't the only one who's avoiding the backhands :) what you showed at the beginning of the video (avoiding backhands at all cost) is exactly what I do. Great video! Now I know why many do two hands when they go for a backhand 👍
@@timbuwick4153 it's been two weeks now. I improved my backhands remarkably! Still lots of room for improvement but definitely the two hand grip is the best way to go!
Hi Ken, sorry for the delay in my response. I use the classic Eastern Backhand grip (base knuckle on bevel 1 - the top). I keep my wrist firm yet hold the paddle loosely. Extend through the ball from the baseline. This is different than the backhand flick from the NVZ line, of course. Experiment with small adjustments to see what works best for you.
A longer handle does give you more room for the two-hander but it is not your only consideration. The overall playability of the paddle is most important. Playtest a variety of longer handle paddles to see which one is right for you.
Why do I need to step into the shot? Is it poor form to be planted before and during swing where I open up my stance (my shoulders and feet perpendicular to the net) and then taking my ferris wheel swing?
Good question. No, that is not poor form. An open stance is totally fine. The key is to able to generate that forward momentum so that you can create the necessary topspin to get the ball to dip. An open stance will allow you to hit cross-court more easily, but could present more of a challenge when your target is down the line. Do what works best for you!
Greetings, Tim. Your Nike shoes caught my attention in this video. What model are they, please, and how do you like them? Have they come to be your favorite shoes? Thanks.

It’s not a non-dominant hand. Both hands are dominant for the things they are supposed to be doing. The non-paddle hand has specific mechanics to do that the paddle hand cannot. Someday the pickleball world will realize this and provide better coaching.
Hmmm...interesting perspective. Out of the hundreds upon hundreds of players that I have been with on court, I hit against one that played equally with both hands. Other than that player, everyone else played predominantly righthanded or lefthanded. Dominant also means main or primary. Since I am right-handed, it is my main, primary and dominant hand, while my left supports the movement. Thanks for your feedback...and thanks for watching.

Not getting old, just becoming obsessed with gear, like us! You are in good company! :)

Tim, Thank You. As a beginner, your video was very informative and easy to follow.
Thanks, Cynthia. I'm glad you found it helpful!

I do the exact thing, run away from my backhand at all costs. I will have to try these tips for sure 👍🏽
Very similar to a tennis backhand...what's your backhand grip? Do you rotate your wrist or keep it firm? Thanks for the advice!

can we play double handed back hand for pickle ball?
Sure can!
Would you suggest buying a paddle with a longer handle if you want to start using a 2 handed backhand?

@@timbuwick Okay..thanks for helping
Great tips!
Thanks for the comment (and I know it wasn't a backhanded one)! ;-)
Thanks, Joanne. I look forward to hearing about your progress!
Great videos, thanks!

Thanks much!
Succinct and to the point.
Thank you. Hopefully now your backhand will also be succinct and to the point!

@@timbuwick It's OK. Somewhere down the road, pickleball nation will start to understand what the tennis world has known for decades.
