Under the sun festival dancing 2024 - Karenni Community Coffs Harbour

Karenni is an ethnic minority group from Myanmar which have their own language, culture, literature, history and beliefs.
Karenni people have lost their independence after World War 2 and have been through civil war in Burma more than 70 years.
Most of people assume Karenni people are speak Burmese but they actually speak their own languages.
Most of the Karenni people in Coffs Harbour are from Thailand refugees camp. They lived in refugee camp for more than 25 years and more of them generations are born in refugee camps.
The Karenni people have settled in Coffs Harbour since 2009 and today approximately 100 Karenni people live in Coffs Harbour.
