I love the way this video starts 😂🤣 The movie was completely one note. There were no risks, no edginess, no controversy, and therefore no point. It was dull completely bland. The cast did their part, but the material was lacking. The movie was so dull to me that I thought it was offensive. I loved the cast and this review, but the actual movie I felt nothing. It was neither good nor bad, it just simply was...and to me, that's worse.
I actually really enjoyed the movie, so much so that I watched it twice 😅 I thought the beginning was really slow but once the friends made it to the cabin that’s when it really started. I lowkey want the Blackening to be our (
I am back! I watched the skit that was said to be funny. Let me be the first to say, HELL NO! The skit was the perfect preview of how bad this movie was gonna be. They barely touched surface level stereotypes. At best, it was a ha! Not even a Ha, or a ha-ha, or a Ha-Ha! A ha, like...ha, this what's funny to ya'll? Is this what we green-lighting these days? Really??? Come on ya'll. That foolishness is for the birds. TikTok and IG go way harder than this. They coulda went so hard. There was talk abt shade or colors, like who's the lightest. Cuz if I was the lightest person there, I would be like I'm mixed. I am biracial so there for it don't matter what you say, I'm not the blackest. They coulda brought out a color wheel of just different browns and whoever the lightest can't say the N word. There was no colorism, no shade, no daddy issues, ect. I expect more from my ppl. Just because you don't the movie don't mean you don't support black anything, it just means the movie was kaka! Or, it wasn't for you. The comment section of this video had more seasoning and flavor than the actual movie. Do better ya'll. Collectively and individually. I'm not disappointed. I'm not even mad, I'm feelin MARVELOUS! I'm just on some, "Ew David" cuz ew. Serious, Ew. Anybody disagree with me, you entitled to your opinion, but if you come at me with the sauce cuz you feel like you taking a stand for black ppl...then we can meet up no problem. I got nothing but time 🤗 smooches 😘💋💞💕
I do agree that they fell short of their goal, and though the concept is nothing new (friends in a cabin in the woods etc), I think the execution is what held it back for me.
that's cause the movie itself has very little jokes, its just racism "white bad" throughout and gets old incredibly fast, no tension or horror, the killers boring and one note, it has nothing really going for it
The mixed reviews are super confusing while I can see how some ppl liked it. It almost seems like people are trying HARD to like it like it definitely wasn’t THAT funny lol unless I’m so far removed from black comedy …. This was ok. But I had waayy higher expectations. I wanted smart black comedy they gave us silly stuff
I too had WAY higher expectations for this movie 😩 And whether it was going to be a smart black comedy or completely silly, I feel like it didn't make a definitive choice to be either and I think that was part of the problem.
It came across as fake representin the culture to me even though the film was still watchable. Just don't believe most of our people would say some of the things that they say in this film and i didn't like how juneteenth was presented in the film like its some block party. And the dark aunt viv joke annoyed me when she was always known as OG aunt viv. But good review to a flawed film.
From J. Cole's 'No Role Modelz,' "I want that real love, dark skinneded Aunt Viv love, that Jada and that Will love/that leave a toothbrush at your crib love, and you ain't gotta wonder whether that's your kid love...."
@@dawb86 Everybody uses the term OG Aunt Viv its been in use for over two decades now. That doesnt change because some pretend rapper with his own issues comes onto the scene and mentions it.
@@texvor6949 I don't know about all that nonsense you talking lol. "Everybody" clearly doesn't work when a prominent artist even uses the term is all I was pointing out...
yup cause its a token movie with racist characters towards anything white culture and it shows nothing about those jokes are jokes, they're just racist remarks disguised up by their wording and yeah juneteenth is so funny cause u know they didn't care til big companies starting pushing it then suddenly they bring it up, virtue signaling
JESUS OF NAZARETH this movie was awful to infinity and BEYOND! Beautiful cast. It's a shame they'll end up on Tubi with Johnathan Majors and Jason Mitchell. For those unfamiliar with Tubi, it is an awful place (located somewhere on Tyra's forehead) you go when the "culture" is tired of you. Mo'Nique got the black card membership always looking to recruit. If you are unfamiliar with the members, allow me to assist....Raven-Symone, Stacey Dash, Isaiah Washington. You get the gist. Legend tells it, Cuba Gooding Jr. was the only person to make it out....only to go back in years later smh. Good review!
As a comedy, I was surprised how entertained I was with it. However, I did see it in theaters and in that setting movies like this tend to work a bit better. As a film overall however, it was lacking. Far as horror goes, tone-wise there wasn't enough real suspense to truly make it scary and comedically the writing's not sophisticated enough to help it rise above the pack. It's not a bad film at all but it was flawed from the gate. The entire premise is centered around the trope that black folks never survive to the end of scary movies. This might have been more effective had it been created fifteen years ago in a pre-'Get Out' era which has sparked a number of films centered on Black characters in the genre that have in fact survived. Black folks tend to watch films in the slasher genre and talk about things we wouldn't do in such a situation. 'The Blackening' could've taken a great lesson from 'Scream' by presenting us with a group of characters we don't always see in a certain setting that are seemingly savvier about how to get out of certain situations but are then challenged with an antagonist that's sharper than expected. While the film does lightly poke fun at the regular tropes of the genre from a Black perspective, it seems the filmmakers never truly planned to kill off any of the central characters, removing a sense of tension from the proceedings that you need for this type of film to truly "work."
yup, theatre bias always gonna affect it by consumers shutting brain off and laughing when they're suppose to but really the movie was just racist, every "white bad" joke isn't a joke its just their views on white culture and ideas and the movie never stops on it, after the first time it becomes apparent this is it, that's why it doesn't work - its not being funny
Excellent! This is my favorite review from you 🤗💖. I am not a hopeful person, I lack understanding on what hope is truly. But after seeing the skit and then seeing the trailer for the movie, I was actually excited. No, I was hopeful. I adore the cast, really good cast. This movie was not good. POORLY executed. There was so much potential smh. Excellent review, very merciful.
Wow! What a review! I appreciated the sandwich! I planned on munching on this sandwich and even more so now because you prepared it for me😂 I have never seen the skit before, so thank you very much for dropping it here, I will definitely check it out😊 Sometimes skits are made to be exactly that, skits...I don't know...but I shall see! Thank you, April, I appreciate you very much, and your honesty! Keepin' it real!
The movie was horrible!! They put black people in white situations. They had black references and an excellent black cast...some jokes hit but it most where not it..!
When I saw the trailer for this movie so we're going to give this movie a chance because of that hilarious. But unfortunately when I watched it on TV last night besides a few good jokes here and there the movie wasn't really that good
The movie had my eyes rolling the entire 97 minutes. Some ideas were ok but overall a weakly developed, on every aspect, movie. I watched it once on 4K and put it back for sale the next day.
There's some harsh criticism....y'all expectations must have been really high lmao. I wouldn't compare it to Scary Movie. I thought it was ok, just ok. I laughed a little bit. I saw it for free maybe that's why idc I guess. Idk 🤔🤨🤗
sheep mentality, harsh criticism is what u should have to anything whether u like or not movie itself wasn't good a big reason is the jokes aren't jokes they're just racist remarks against white people
Chillll I play Spades actively 🤣 but it's hilarious, interesting & predictable that you would take my constructive criticism of this movie and use it as an opportunity to attack my blackness. Just like they did in the movie 😂😂😂

Feel the exact same. The skit was even less funny than the movie. In the movie I had two "Ha,ha" moments and that was It.
I really wasn't feeling this movie. I don't have a deep dive analysis like all the other comments here. It was just meh to me.
I'll keep it brief and simple. They fell short of their goal (some might agree).
Or!
Perhaps the movie is outdated because of the concept?
