Just found this channel and subbed right away! I am singing this song as a solo special in church on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Today is Saint Patrick's Day 2023! Ruthie B. Howard 3.17.23
It is one of my favorite hymns. Our song leaders sing a little bit faster than this. I enjoy all of the hymns that you post. Keep up your good work. thank you brother.
I had already listened to this 4 times before I read how it was recorded... and that it's all one person. I was certain this was four people... this is BEAUTIFUL!
@@acappellahymns that's a trick question. By myself, I can't carry a tune in a bucket. If I have someone else to key off of, I can easily cover the bass range. But I absolutely love the tenor with the harmony parts...those high notes just don't like me. :)
Thank you! My favorite hymn with a bonus 😊 (verse 4) I haven't seen in hymnals. I think there were also quite a few more verses written for this hymn too.
Garrison Keillor did a version for Valentine's Day 2008 about the aunts of lake Wobegon. I have it somewhere, like this comment and I'll post it, the lyrics. He doesn't sing this incipit, when I survey, at any time during his version, but the last verse he substitutes the words Jesus lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly, while the nearer waters roll, while the temp is still is not. It scans the same, and an avoids bringing the passion tied element into something that is both not related to Easter and also not directly religious. so I didn't know what the tune was cuz I couldn't look it up! And then a few years ago I heard this being sung at the Easter time at the church I helped out at and I was so thrilled.
I have a few requests if you don't mind. 1. Hear me when i call 2. Come share the Lord 3. Restore my soul 4. I want to know Christ 5. Freely, freely 6. Take my hand, precious Lord I know that's quite a few, but some are short. Thanks Elliott!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing, and you have a bonus verse for me to add to my hymnal; what was your 4th stanza about the robe of blood and the whole globe. Playing again to sing along and get that extra stanza copied down.
Hey, could you consider doing ‘I Must Tell Jesus’? I’m pretty sure it’s public domain and I really like that one. I love the work you’re doing here, by the way. Keep it up!
Are you going to do anything special once you hit 20,000 subscribers? Maybe do a vlog so people can see what you look like and answer subscriber questions or show us your recording set up, etc? 😜
Your face is just fine. You really should do something to mark the occasion, don’t you think? I’m hoping Jesus will be back before you hit 100,000 subscribers. 😍
Would you be able to post the individual parts as well for some , at least popular hymns? I'm a beginner and struggle to separate the parts as I try to learn tenor, for example. Compared to the melody especially.
@@acappellahymns Of course! I wouldn't expect them for free; I've already bought the ones you have on iTunes. I can also wait to get the next album through iTunes once you finish it; but would love to purchase the remainder from you that are not going to be available there. I'll send you an email; please let me know what I need to Paypal you. Thanks! :)
@@acappellahymns I mean I have heard two different tunes for this single song...I don't know which is right... Leave it if u don't understand...I simply asked Hearing acapella hymns is my hobby..🙂 do you know Michael Eldridge....I think u know him
Oh, okay. Yes, this tune of this one is called "Hamburg". There are a few different tunes that use similar lyrics. But "Hamburg" is the most common. I do know Michael Eldridge. He and I discuss our recordings sometimes through messages.
A Cappella Hymns I’be actually never heard this hymn before and I don’t think that it sounds bad, I was just surprised that you took it this slow because I know you to usually be rather precise with your songs. I actually like your interpretation, but 2/2 is meant, from my experience, to be double time; as slow 2/2 ultimately becomes felt as normal 4/4.
A Cappella Hymns also I’m just curious of a few things: what region of the country are you from? Would you ever upload yourself singing “solo”, I’m very curious of what your voice sounds like alone lol
In Churches of Christ there is a tendency to sing everything a bit slower (LOL-6/8 songs are frequently led as 3/4 time, etc.). I prefer this song a bit faster myself and faster still and louder on the final verse. That being said, the time signature doesn't actually indicate the tempo, but the meter. 2/2 or cut time is a marching tempo and I agree that this would be a very slow march.
"Littered"? I attempt to be as accurate as I can be with these slides but occasionally mistakes get through. But "littered"? Can you give me your top 5 inaccuracies?

Love the old hymns. Wish we sang more of them.
I'm about to walk down the aisle at my wedding to this song. I'm a Land Surveyor. My church plays this song often. Thanks for posting

One of my favorite hymns too. Also, I believe this is a key b flat, so it must be slow..they actually keep pace with that key b flat.
@@ramseyabsessien8990 Actually, one flat (b flat) indicates the key of F and the key it's in is independent from the tempo.
Thank you so much for sharing. I love singing tenor at Church and this helps a lot!

I prefer ROCKINGHAM to HAMBURG for this text. Please consider offering that as well.
I'm not familiar with that one. Can you provide a link to sheet music?
