Listen, my fellow Americans, we are against the "slime" of the okra for some reason but baby...let me tell ya, try it the African way, with those African seasons baby...!! you will LOVE THAT DRAW!!! I promise you!! It is so so delicious!!! My sister in law from Nigeria cooked it for me once and I literally cried when she said there was no more left in the pot!! 😋❤❤
@@Assata_Shakurthis comment made my millennial self laugh more than it should have 🤣🤣. I feel like we would prob crack up together IRL. Thank you for putting a smile on my face!
WOW Chef Ify 👩🏾🍳😘, it looks absolutely mouthwatering and Scrumptious well done. Enjoy a happy and blessed stress free peaceful weekend and a fabulous and favourable week ahead with your family, God bless you all abundantly. Amen. 💛💜💛💐🧡✨👑✨💐
I've never thought to blend it but it definitely gets it slimey faster and thicker. Plus I've never pit it in a stew, normally it's just plain with onion and tomato as a side dish almost! I love this one pot recipe and since its from West Africa, I'm certain this dish is flavourful! I genuinely feel privileged to have had such welcoming Christian Nigerian neighbours. Bless them.
@elizabethberedugo4950 they were Nigerian so yes. But I have met other West African families that have imparted me with so much love and respect for their respective cultures. P.S. I'm Southern Africa. (SADC, not SA)
I have a child with a medical condition, I order him this food because I don't know how to cook it but it's gained my child in so many ways, whan Gwhan
WOW!! This is really a top tip!! ( I can not wait to try it)! Who would have thought of blending some of the okra???!! I can instantly see how this would totally increase the slime factor. Take your crown our beautiful Ify you are the Cooking Queen 👸 indeed!👍🏽👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Yummy yummy, love it, i don’t throw away any part of the okra, like the head and the tail they are all fibers, when i cut them off I blend them and add with the other cut okras.

Like this method 😍. I’ve never thought to blend the okra before but the next time I cook this soup, definitely going to try it! Also I don’t normally use iru in okra soup, but saw a comment saying they use it in theirs? Love iru in efo riro so might try that too! That soup looks so delicious ❤
Blessings can you please put the ingredients in the comments so I can make this pot? I saw on a cooking channel that there is a powdered okra are you aware of that. They used it in some part of Africa.
One way to increase the slime is to decrease the amount of tomatoes used in the soup base. The acidity of the tomatoes cuts the draw of the okro Also add salt only to the soup base and NOT after adding the okro
Whether you blend, grate or cut, It stops been slimy when it cools down. Heat is what cuts down the slime. If it's not cooked till done then the slime remains but if it's cooked till done it cuts when it cools down. Bring it down when the bubble is still on top if you want the slime. But when the bubble is all gone once you bring it down you have lost the slime. All you will be left with is a thick soup without the slime.

I do the same
Hello🖐, Is the "Pepper Mix" the same as jollof rice (Tomato, Bell pepper, Onions, Habanero/scotchbonett)?
I just add a little ogbono in the soup base then add my diced okro. Same effect. I also add uziza leaves finely sliced
Uziza leaves are the best leaves for Okro soup in my opinion.
Me too!
Ogbono and okro is a banger especially if you are abroad with no proper okro
Ogbono all the way jare
I can’t make mine without ogbono!
I just love your channel because of the way you don’t waste oil 😍😍💯
Finished dish looks great

Yummylicious ify dear,am a chef too
I will now forever call okra, okro!
😂
😂😂😂
Dey there
All my life, even in agric classes and textbooks, I've known it to be okro, not okra
@@MrSahbunky I guess I grew up in the wrong place
Perfect this is how I prepare mine
Blessings can you please put the ingredients in the comments so I can make this pot? I saw on a cooking channel that there is a powdered okra are you aware of that. They used it in some part of Africa.
Yes in the North. They use dry and powdered okra. The south prefers the fresh ones.
Best cook ever
Be generous with your crayfish

Nice that's very good
One way to increase the slime is to decrease the amount of tomatoes used in the soup base. The acidity of the tomatoes cuts the draw of the okro
Also add salt only to the soup base and NOT after adding the okro
Nigerians hardly use tomatoes for okra though
Sierra Leoneans rarely use tomatoes in okra soup. The advice sounds good but I don’t think tomatoes are a popular reason that cut the draw. 😅
Tomatoes in okro soup? Never seen it o
Íts rear using tomatoes on okro though
@@DOCTORCHANDUSI don't think it is tomatoes,it is fresh blended red pepper
Nice can you list me down the recipe I want to try it from Zimbabwe
So delicious 😋 😍
Omg It looks so good, now I have to make some. Off to the mart I go lol
Omg that looks good!

Mmm.. looks sooo tasty.. I love my okro slimy with assorted meats.. I draw my okra slime out with a small amount of baking soda 😉

Amazing
AA have a similar dish with shrimp, okra, corn, tomatoes, and sausage. I want to try the Motherland version 🤤.
Whether you blend, grate or cut, It stops been slimy when it cools down.
