There are locking diffs, and Limited Slip diffs available out there in Russia for this good old Niva! You can change the original open diffs as You want. Google: "VAL Racing" Russian Company in Togliatti.
Niva is a fantastic little car. It has its flaws, but it's super cheap and has multiple advantages off-road: It's small and light so it can go where most other offroad cars would get stuck; it's very easy to fix (if you never worked on your car, Niva is a great car to start); the parts are plentiful and literally dirt cheap; it has a full-time AWD with locking centre differential and low range transfer case so it's both easy to use and very practical; it can fit a good amount of cargo and bc it's a monocoque the roof is rigid so you can also make a very useful roof rack. It's a perfect car for going on offroad trips- My friends and I drove to Romania and it was awesome! The car wasn't too comfortable, but it was the last one to get stuck whenever we were going through rough terrain.
