- Can the noble community of BookTok really be trusted to help us all find our new favourite love story, or does TikTok needs to pay for its crimes against the noble art of the romcom? I read a load of super popular, viral TikTok favourite books this year so you don't have to, and here's how they ranked for me. No one mention milking.

40 min of Lucy Wood talking about books?! What more could I ask for on a Sunday morning? ❤❤❤
Bigger girls justice! The tiny petite girl and the huge lad trope really hits me hard…
I cannot recommend Welcome to your life by Bethany Rutter enough!
The protagonists is a plus size girl dating. But it’s about so much more than weight. She doesn’t hate herself, she’s not trying to lose weight. She meets some incredible diverse characters along the way. It’s such a feel good RomCom ❤
Also have you read the Brown Sisters trilogy?
@@Nicole-zy4vb I haven’t yet but it’s on my TBR. Should I bump it up to more of a priority?
Thanks for the recommendations! Very tired of the tiny girl trope as well. That's what I came here to say. It's also very "cool girl" - she's 90 pounds but eats the same meals as her massive man and then they have hot sex every night and play video games for hours post coitus!! (BARF). All are welcome and beautiful, but this s**t is very overdone and reeks of the patriachy. Even if I was emaciated, I'm still rather tall with a broad frame. I will therfore never relate to the "isn't she so tiny and adorable (and therefore submissive)" tropes and storylines. Let's honor those of us womxn who exist in larger bodies!!
Thank you for the Bethany Ritter recommendation! That has now been added to my TBR.
Added this to my tbr too 🥰
The fact the love hypothesis is based off fan fiction has blown my mind 😂
The second book in the series by Tessa Bailey is in fact called "Hook, Line, Sinker" 😅
Omg thank you for calling out The Spanish Love Deception. When I read it, this was so wierd to me because the diet talk never really got brought up again in the second half of the book and it felt so strange. I didn't get why it needed to be there. For a long time I felt like nobody else was even seeing it/ talking about it
Oh and Verity is like a train wreck. Its kind of terrible but you cant look away 😅
I'm a tall person and its very validating to hear someone else say the same thing about every heroine being such a tiny delicate flower lol - always a pleasant surprise when the description on the lead is a little taller (for me personally)
‘The Flatshare’ Tiffy is a tall/larger girl, and in ‘Cresent City’ Bryce is described as curvy and strong 🙌🏼
I’m sick of it too, so glad some books out there are changing it up a tad!
the love hypothesis just is *so* good. I read it so quickly and loved it so intensely, it really got me back into reading (and I work in publishing!!)
The fact that olive got described as being 5'8 in love hypothesis and yet adam was "giant" irks me to my coreeee 😭😂 totally agree with you on the books ive read, SLD has reached the bottom of my TBR pile now though haha!
omg? 40 minutes!!!!!! You spoil us, Lucy!!
I am going to out my own stupidity here but I literally have People We Meet On Vacation AND You And Me On Vacation on my bookshelf. I read the latter and was really excited to read the other one. How tf have I never noticed that they were the same book 😂
This had a direct impact on my life, I may have gone to Waterstones under false pretenses of getting a coffee just after watching. Thanks 📚
Lucy you are one of the people who got me back into reading and it has been so wonderful. Reading carried me through a tumultuous season of life and every time I needed a new book rec I came back to your videos!
I’m obsessed with your book videos Lucy!❤
Aaaaah I love your book videos! So excited to watch!
I've said it before I'll say it again we need a Lucy Wood book club.
love the autumn colours in the background btw, so cozy and warm! SUCH A GOOD VIDEO:))
Oh this is perfect as I’m doing my Christmas wishlist 🎄😍
I love these videos on a rainy Sunday morning 🍂🍁
Just discovered your channel. You are so fun to listen to and have such a calming voice. I loved your book descriptions.
Adore your book reviews and insights 😍 such a cosy vibe to this video x
Well done on getting those 6 minutes! This gave me that cosy you've got mail feeling and I'm definitely picking up some of those books 💜💜
Thank you so much for this video, I loved it! I think we have very similar taste in books so I really enjoyed listening to your opinions and I’ve got a good list added to my ‘want to read’ now 😊
Lovely Video!! I always love hearing opinions on books from the different creators I subscribe to. It is fun to compare notes on the ones I have read and maybe pick up a couple of new titles here and there. Great content!
Every time you do a book video I open the library webpage and order all the books - they've been trickling in over this past year as they become available, and it's been wonderful. Thanks!
Loved this one! I’m currently reading some of the books you mentioned, and it’s either validated my feelings toward them, or made me desperate to pick them up and finish them. 😆 Great video, as always! 💛💛
The names of the rankings ARE INCREDIBLE LUCY (this video is 🙌🏻💗✨)
I liked this video before I even watched it. I love how you give your opinions on books! Your book videos are my favourites! ❤️❤️
Love this, got some great ones for my TBR.
One book I loved recently was 'The Girl with the Loading Voice' a great read about resilience and to add some different representations as I find a lot of book tok tend to be one 'type' (for want of a better word) of person so that's a good one if you're interested ☺️
Love your book videos, Lucy! (And all of your other videos, too, of course😊)
What a lovely video! Hope you make more “booktok made me read it” videos ☺️
Size 12 Is Not Fat by meg Cabot is an AMAZING series from the 2000s - an accidental girl detective in nyc who's in love with her ex's brother. A whole series by the mind who gave us Princess Diaries 🔎💓
I feel almost exactly the same with all of your recommendations so I'm interested in reading your positive reviews that I haven't read! I haven't tried any other Emily Henry books besides You and Me on Vacation so I'm excited to try your recs. Thanks!
Ahhh love the book videos! Also so close to 200k! Congratulations!
I appreciate your honesty and your opinions! Thanks for sharing, definitely subscribing!
Love that you’re reading BookTok books 😆 Also… grumpy/sunshine is the superior trope 🥰
LOVE the book videos!!
Just what I needed Sunday morning with a cuppa 🙌🏻☕️
Completely off topic, but that sweater you’re wearing is really a gem ✨
It’s from Joanie, i hunted it down and found it on sale 😍😂
Loved this video ❤ My favourite book I’ve read this year is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Also loved Verity and read it in two days, team manuscript! The Song of Achilles is next on my list! 😊
Obsessed with your book videos xxxxxxxx
I would like a trope for short chubby girls. Like I can't reach the cereal box....but I will also eat the entire box of cereal.
Thanks for your review on these books! I also really appreciate the comment on the whole petite woman and ginormous man thing and where it leaves us tall women. Alsooo lovee your hair!!
Loved this!! Where I end, by Sophie White, while very dark, is a composure page turner
This video had me laughing out loud all the way through 😅 Loved to hear your views and definitely have some here I now want to try, thanks for a great video 📚x
Just found you but I have to say I love your hair so much, gorgeous! Also love the video, absolutely going to binge watch your videos now!
Thank you! So great to know what to avoid and what will actually be a nice read ☺️
I loved this video, Lucy! Please do more bookish content, whenever you feel like it. It's so entertaining. I agree with almost all of your ratings (except for Tessa Bailey's It Happened One Summer which was a miss for me). You should definitely check out Dial A for Aunties which is a romcom that's so funny! I think it's right up your alley.
flo purring in the background! 😭❤
How have I just found this channel, amazing!!
Totally agreed about all of these! If you like the STEM backdrop of The Love Hypothesis. Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren has some of that setting and a fairly believable couple. It’s much better than The Unhoneymooners imo, but much more smutty, for better or worse 😂
Loved this and I TOTALLY agree about the whole miscommunication trope - it’s the worst. Also I too would like to meet a grumpy cinnamon role fisherman.
Yes!! I had the exact same feeling with you and me on vacation!!
As a fellow tall gal I feel you and the mc in what I’m writing is a tall
I agree with you about The Love Hypothesis! I wasn't going to read it because people talked about it so much I thought it might be overhyped, but then saw it at my library and was like "okay, let's see what the fuss is about." I agree, there's something about it that just works and made the experience really enjoyable. Right now I'm getting into Emily Henry's books - currently on Book Lovers and have Beach Read on my nightstand to tackle next! I liked People We Meet On Vacation, so I'm interested to see if I like the other two more or less. I'm not a huge Colleen Hoover fan, since I've only read Verity and the other books are hard to get your hands on if you're using the library system. I think the best thing TikTok has done for me is introduce me to Taylor Jenkins Read, I have loved all of her work!
Lol when I saw what sweater you were wearing, I put mine on so we could be cozy twins while I sipped my tea and watched you talk about books!
This was so fun to watch ❤
you are so close to 200k!
My Ranking of books tiktok/booktube made me read this year
5🌟 Daisy Jones & The Six
4🌟 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, My Dark Vanessa, Loveless, The Love Hypothesis, Circe, Ariadne, Where the Crawdads Sing
3🌟 Carrie Soto is Back, Song of Achilles, Normal People, The Silet Patient, The Paris Apartment, We were Liars
2🌟 Red Queen, People We Meet On Vacation, Shatter Me
I've read 68 books this years which is really impressive for me as my reading goal was 30 Books (whith the new years resolution to read more!) but booktube really made me read so much more this year. I love you and other creators talk about books and what they like and didnt like about them. It's inspiring and comforting to watch + a motivation boost to read more or keep reading. So i love to see book content!
TBR for the rest of the year are: Beautiful World Where Are You, All Your Perfects, How to Kill your Family and The Midnight Circus
My new favourite RUclipsr - what a breath of fresh air. Shit Tok had me in hysterics.
I truly feel
One day I will be buying a book by ‘Lucy wood’ ! You would be such an amazing author xxxx
Have you already read A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting? I’ve just started it and it’s pretty entertaining. Hopefully stays that way. Thank you for the rec and warnings 😂!
I agreed with all your ratings and literally said “yes Lucy my Girl, exactly that” a few times to my screen ☺️ this was such a fun video
Since you liked The Love Hypothesis, you’ve got to read her new book Love on the Brain! It’s a super similar STEM romance and I loved the characters so much🥹❤️
Doing the Lords work here, all of this does not at all sound like something I would enjoy, however I'm glad I know that now, I reckon you might quite enjoy Sally Rooney Normal People was my favourite! 😂
Unrelated, but your hair is so so pretty 😍
I completely agree with your thoughts on The Spanish Love Deception. I'm usually a big fan of enemies to lovers but this one just had no natural flow whatsoever and the diet segments were just so bleugh. Also I had planned to read the final third of this book on a plane journey, no-one really mentions the final third of this book is just... painfully graphic 😂 sorry to anyone sitting near me who decided to sneak a peak at the book I was reading, if it makes you feel better I was more mortified than you were
I knew this video would be dangerous 😂 really intrigued by Verity now put it on my Christmas list to stop me buying. Currently reading the midnight library by Matt Haig which I’m loving! I have a book club with my uni friends and I always feel really bad when I don’t like what someone’s picked 😂but you are right people like different styles of books! Quite like it now when we have different opinions! Love you and your videos ❤
I highly recommend “Remarkably Bright Creatures” for something really different and fun and creative. It has phenomenal writing - I flew through it
100% agree with you on unhoneymooners - was never rooting for them to be together, and the whole premise of their intense initial “hate” for each other due to one rude look at their first meeting was so ridiculous lol. The incident when they are back from vacation and her partner basically gaslights her into thinking the unwanted advance wasn’t what she thought it was was the nail in the coffin of an already dead relationship in my opinion 🤷♀️
That was an unexpected lol for me at the end there! Xx
Funnily enough Hook line and sinker is the title of the sequel to It happened one summer
Please - where is your lovely jumper from? You look so pretty!! Thanks for the TT recommendation update!
39 minutes of Lucy reviewing books?!? Is it my birthday??? Lovely as usual 🥰
I can finally put to rest the inexplicable FOMO I get around these books that would otherwise never interest me 🫡
The way I would dieeeee for the Love Hypothesis ??? Such a random one for me to pick up but it didn’t disappoint for me
Can we have a little commotion for that jumper? 😍 ...where did you source this beauty
That’s definitely a Joanie jumper! The absolute best clothing site!!
Thank you for "calling out" The Spanish love deception. It was on my TBR but as someone who has battled with disordered eating I'm definitely not gonna read it. Also weird how I've seen no one talk about that 😐
I nearly cried out of frustration at it ends with us it was just awful
Not a romance reader but I read the dead romantics recently and really enjoyed it, felt like a warm hug and made me laugh and cry. Would recommend! Officially staying away from CH books 😅
need you to read love on the brain, Ali Hazelwood’s new one, because it’s fine until a batshit element that I’d love to hear you talk about 😭 book lovers is 10000% Emily Henry’s strongest! and echoing several comments that we need a Lucy Wood book club
What did you use to rank your books? I've been looking for a similar tool!
Btw I loved your video! You are great at book banter ☺️
I was indeed eating my dinner for the boob-in-mouth comment and nearly redecorated my living room wall in bolognese as I laughed out loud! 🤣🤣
I loved Love Hypothesis which led me to read Love on the Brain also by Ali Hazelwood. I really didn't like LOTB ngl 😭 and a huge piece was the constant talk about itty bitty female lead with gargantuan man!!!! It was getting weird?? She fully described herself as being like 3 mice in a trench coat at one point and him looking like he was sitting in kids furniture in a normal human deck chair??? It has other issues for me but that was def a contributing factor
If you like stem based books you should read penny reid's... Knitting in the city series are wonderful!
How bad is it that I have read none of these books? 😳 The last time I went on a reading jag, it’s all I wanted to do. I’m afraid of that happening again. Thank you Lucy, for reading these and providing your opinions. I might leave a few off my list, if I ever get back to it that is.
I also loved Verity, I couldn't put it down. Very well written! I went Into it blind and it's 1 of my 5/5 books of the year. Along with Rock paper scissors by Alice Feeney and may e in another life, Taylor Jenkins Reid. 💜❤️
I really wish Lucy had a discord where we could talk about books, house decor and clothes 😩 Lucy, if you ever need help setting up a discord let me know 😂😂
For a good fake dating romance, I highly recommend Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall ❤ It's also set in London!
lucy!!!! i need you to read love & other words by christina lauren because every summer after basically ripped off of it and it’s SO MUCH BETTER
I’m so with you on your rant about the girls always being tiny and the guys huge - I’m six foot tall and fat and would like some representation. Talia Hibbert’s Brown sisters series is great for plus size representation btw ❤️
Hi Lucy, did you ever read the Ruth Ozark book you were recommended? What did you think?
I read Verity in one sitting too - I’m also team manuscript!😬
Your description and review of The Spanish Love Deception made me laugh out loud several times, thank you! I will not be reading that book. 😆
Mauler and Questus by english writer Shawn Williamson. Mauler is indicated by english writer, historian, cinema director Andrew Sinclair. He compares It with White Fang by Jack London.
Your sweater ?? Amazing, where did you it from?? Soooo cute
I was hoping for a recipe vídeo in the new kitchen! With Adam and floo.
Totally agree about the 'tiny girl, big man' trope, it's tiring 😂 I'm above average for a female, 176 cm (I think it's 5 feet 9 inches, I may be wrong I don't operate in feet 😅) and it's like tall women are default masculine or something.
The Spanish love deception is icky, I cannot finish reading it. I'm not surprised by the disordered eating part to be honest, in many mainland European countries, woman is expected to be thin and it's super common for your family to comment on your weight. I live in the UK but I'm originally from Poland and first thing I hear when I visit family and friends is 'oh, you've lost, oh, you've put on weight' where the first outcome is seen as positive. It's sad cultural reality for many women, my friends from Italy, Spain etc have similar experiences. Therefore, I can really relate to this part and it's actually pretty accurate that a woman would do anything to lose weight before going to a wedding where all family members would be there. It's obviously screwed up but I kind of get where she's coming from. I haven't finished the book but I've already seen enough reviews to know how it ends and how I don't want to finish it 😂 it sounds like a poor fan fiction.
I need to read 'The live hypothesis ', I'm a scientist myself and it'd be interesting to see a book set in familiar environment. Academia is totally toxic place to be in though so I'm interested if the book will do its justice.
I'd love to see how you feel about Magpie by Elizabeth Day! So so weird and interesting and hard to explain!
Love your book reviews, will have to pick up a few recs for sure! And couldn't agree more on the whole tiny girl - tall guy book trope...soo annoying and yes, literally every romance book I've read HAS to mention how tiny she is like it's an important character trait or how much taller the guy is etc...the worst.
Off topic but can I kindly request your small business gift guide soon as last year I had finished my Christmas shopping but had to buy some extra bits once you did your vid, thank you
