    The armchair adventurer, great video. Back in 1944, an American Marine fighter ace , Robert M. Hanson, was flying with VMF-215. He was returning from a fighter sweep that was called off due to fog over the target. On the return flight he broke off from formation and went to strafe the Cape St. George lighthouse on New Ireland. The Japanese used it to shoot at allied planes and repot allied ship movements. Hanson was shot down and cartwheeled into the water , never to be seen again. I was wondering if this was the same lighthouse. Thank you.

      Hey - thank you. No I don't think this is the same lighthouse unfortunately. This one didn't see any action during WW2 beyond being used as target practice by the Australian navy who have a nearby base in Jervis Bay.
