    Thank you for all your time to put these brilliant videos on. I have sheep on my own and usually wash the wool after shearing to get in ready for peg loom. I do not have a carder though. Is it possible to needle felt with just washed but not carded wool?

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  6 месяцев назад

      Hi, depends on the wool, you can buy dog brushes which are super cheap and card sections yourself. Carding just makes it easy but I use actual sheep locks for top coats which works well too xx

    Thank you for this - and all of your videos - you're fabulous!!
    I just started on my felting journey and am loving it!! I bought a Desert Breeze kit through Amazon (US) and it came with what they call CORE WOOL ROVING- Corriedale wool which doesn't state if it's combed or carded, but sure seems like it's combed to me - it's slippery and smooth - fibers seem to be going in one direction - not too fuzzy. The kit also came with CARDED WOOL from New Zealand Maori Wool, those are much nicer to work with and give a far more uniform texture - maybe a bit more coarse at first, but more uniform and easier to blend in overlapping pieces. Their core wool seems to retain joint lines and doesn't blend nearly as easily as their carded colored wool. Is core wool supposed to be carded and not combed - to make it easier to form and shape, and less soft & slippery? I'm so confused... :)

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 года назад +1

      Hi, sorry, only just seen your message, RUclips can be a bit funny with comments. Core wool is more likely to be carded or very rough, yes, there is no point putting wool through the combing process if it is going to be sold at a cheaper price as core wool. Roving is normally the same as tops, it's finer and as you say slippery, the needle slips between the fibres and is harder to catch and felt them, hence it takes longer to felt down. Anything carded is much easier to work with personally x

    Hi, I’ve started saving Some money by using yarn for felting , I’ve also tried to mix
    Some colors with the brushes, I’m getting these little spots through the fibers when I do
    Like little pills in my material, is there a specific type yarn I should or shouldn’t use?

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  3 года назад

      I do know what you mean because this sometimes happens when I card wool too but not much so I just pick them out. I've seen your question on the Facebook group so hopefully someone else may know if there are certain yarns to avoid. Lots of people do brush out yarn and use it successfully x

    • @feltsbyphilippa

      Probably a Heidi Feathers one (she's closed for holiday at present, I have a link in my video description) but I think companies like The Makerrs, Felt Box, Sarafina Fibre Art are all great. Make sure the wool is carded (batts is sometimes the term in USA), top are harder to work with (see my wool video). Thanks so much for watching x
