I thought I wanted a Rolex OP 41 silver dial, but couldn’t find one at retail. Instead, I “settled” for a BB58 with a black dial on a bracelet. I no longer have any interest in a Rolex at any price. The quality of the Tudor is fantastic and it flies just under the radar. The accuracy is unbelievable- I last set it three months ago and it is currently less than a second slow. I have had my BB58 for almost a year and I still find myself gazing at it multiple times a day.

As soon I saw the New OP 41 in 2020, I wanted it. New Movement, new size, Silver dial with Gold Indices (1st for OPs), at only $6.5k....I was looking at old preowned Datejusts for the same price. I did not like any of the OP 41 funky colors, Red, Green, "Tiffany" Blue, Yellow....No. My eyes were on the Silver Dial 41mm.
Also I was looking for a watch to wear, not flip. my first Rolex.
In January 2022, I went to 3 of my closest dealers. One did not even look at me. The other two took my name and number. One of them called me on March 16, 2022. She told me she had one in stock and I had 48 hrs. to pick up if I'm still interested. I went to pick it up the next day.
I will not be buying any more Rolexes. I got the one I wanted. I do not like any other Rolexes (maybe a Submariner). My favorite Brands is Omega and Bretiling. I did not like the Rolex buying experience.
I would like a BB58 eventually. my next watch is either the Seamaster 300M or Speedmaster Professional.

Had my Tudor BB Heritage for over 3 months now, and I’m still absolutely in love. In house Swiss movement, heritage design, and priced according to what you’re getting. Unless you’re a rich meat head who just wants the status symbol, I see no reason to be paying twice retail for a Submariner when you can get a Tudor diver for MUCH, MUCH less, and get basically the same craftsmanship. Love Tudor because it flies under the radar.

I remember as a 16 year old, I loved my Citizens and Nixons and didn’t understand the whole luxury market. The Tudor Pelagos was the first watch I saw where I “got it”. That was before I even knew about the Rolex connection or significance, I just knew that to me it looked like the perfect diver. I just posted this review on Grand Seiko Beverly Hills Boutique:
"I purchased a used Grand Seiko on-line and needed an additional link for the bracelet.
Called the GS Boutique in Beverly Hills and was told that they wouldn't sell me a link since they hadn't sold me the watch.
    I was shocked.
Especially as Omega's Boutique at the Beverly Center has sold me straps and links for several watches that I hadn't purchased from them"
I post this here after hearing Fed's comment on service.

Obviously this is a sample size of 1 but they come with 5 year warranties so you should have peace of mind should anything go wrong.

  • @mdesmet9111

There isn't a lot to hate about Tudor. You might not like their designs, but you can't really argue about taste. You can say their models are uninspired or boring, but many people say a Rolex Submariner is boring, while many others think it's the best watch in the world. If people were just a little less frustrated and negative about everything, I think most people would agree that Tudor makes great watches at a reasonable price. Those who always keep focussing on the brand and the link with Rolex are probably just snobs.

    • @pymandragore
      @pymandragore 2 года назад +1

Well lately if someone keep focusing on the link to Rolex, it's Tudor themselves. Their New GMT is just a copy, there is no other word, a copy of the explorer 2, under the hurras of the Tudor crowd. The ranger (although a 'historical' Ttudor model, is as boring as the explorer 1.
The quality is indeed really good for the price point. Does it worth the hype? If it was not owned by Rolex i'm nos sure at all it would have the same success.
Unfortunately Tudor is surrounded by flippers who dream about making a few bucks on the 'next rolex.'
I loved the BB58 gilt when it was released . I tried it several times. Bought it finally. And massively disapppointed. The seamaster 300 pro (paid same price on the grey market) is not in the same league. Io be honest my 2003 Seamaster 2254 Peter Blake had more personality.
I loved Tudor;; I don't like them anymore , for now, because the hype is ridiculous. The Pelagos MN is a ridiculous story telling, And I hope they wont keep doing copies of Rolex. But im afraid that their next release will be the explo2 Polar.

That being said, are there other brands of watches with even better quality than Tudor at the Tudor price-point; or, as Federico suggests, is the Tudor brand over-hyped because of the Rolex association?

I hate that it feels like Tudor has to tune down the hype of their watches by making them off proportion or introducing these faut rivets. I mean they basically have the same line up now as Rolex, at least as far as the popular sports models go and if you have to limit hype, then don't re-release hyped pieces. And then they even use these little variations to highlight certain releases. The BB Pro had the T-fit clasp (why not the Root Beer GMT?), the Ranger has no faut rivets (why not all other releases this year too?) just to feed people a bit more Rolex.

    • @lonewolfemcquade8133
      @lonewolfemcquade8133 2 года назад +1

This faux rivets are a unessarsary decoration and I know alot of Tudor owners who don't like them but deal with them. They remind me of something to be found on a fashion watch. Even though you don't notice them just knowing they are there and faux would urk me. If Tudor loves the riveted look so much why not just make a real riveted bracelet 🤔

I find it really odd when people call Tudor a Rolex homage brand.
As we constantly hear, Tudor was formed to offer Rolex-like watches at a more attainable price. I feel stupid saying that sentence because if you're in this thread you already know that.
But we need to remember that the only time Tudor has 'lost its way', and consequently its market share, is when it moved away from that original formula.
Of course Tudor relies upon Rolex design principles!, that's its raison d'etre! *Literally.*
And the hype? I don't particularly like it, it muddys the water and makes it difficult to see things clearly. But it isn't going anywhere.
On that, why is the 'poor mans Rolex' cliché considered insulting? If someone thinks not being able to (or choosing not to) spend $6.5K - or *let's be realistic* here, $9 or 10K - on an Explorer 124270 is somehow insult worthy, it's probably because *they've* bring downing the Kool-Aid and have succumbed to the *Rolex hype!*
So, in my opinion it's pretty easy: there is a difference between Tudor and Rolex. Obviously. But (using the Ranger and Explorer as an example) is there $2.5k V's $9.5k of difference?
That's up to you to decide.
I don't think there is; but I think Tudor *should* be known as the *'Thinking* Mans Rolex'.

100% agree -in 1984, as a 30 yr-old engineer (who enjoyed recreational sailing) I purchased a Tudor 76100 "submariner" -to get an Oyster case with an adequately accurate movement (Eta 2824). I didn't need the precision (or accuracy) of a Rolex nor would I have felt comfortable wearing a Rolex without a genuine need (navigation?). In fact, in my professional circumstances wearing a Rolex would have been cause to question my judgement :^). By the way, the watch serviced periodically (frequency = more than 5/less than 10 years ) is still fully functional 38 years later...

      That's a *great* anecdote sir.
Unfortunately we're hearing less and less about these incredibly well made and built to purpose tools. We (that's the 'royal' we, as in those of us in this hobby) buy cheap disposable watches to perform that sort've work these days and molly-coddle our sports watches.
Rolex is a 'flex' watch we worry about scratching and Tudor is a casual weekend watch we wear to the pub and BBQ's at our mates place. But if we're in the garden, or under the car - or sailing (maybe... I don't sail!)? We wear a 'beater'.
I get it, things change, but it's a shame.
I bought myself a Certina DS PH200M a few years back. Hesalite, aluminium insert, P/matic 80, all the extra DS gaskets. It's tough as nails, no faux patina and the now 'old fashioned' components (acrylic & aluminium) mean it's going to take on its wear and age with me. Maybe in a few decades I'll be able to write a YT comment something like you wrote above about that watch?
      Cheers mate.I'll llujnkk

People who know economics say we are headed for a depression, and there's a lot supporting evidence. For instance, US T-bills have lost 36% of their value recently. We are seeing inflation rates that we haven't had in over 40 years. Our government is printing unprecedented amounts of money-trillions of dollars. Debt to GDP is up to 125%, and soon they won't be able to print enough new money, to prop up the economy. That means luxury items will continue to fall in price. They only question is, where is the bottom?

Here’s the problem with Tudor . Example number 1. Let’s say you’re wearing a Tudor and someone says nice watch what kind is it? You will then say it’s a Tudor and if someone doesn’t know what it is , you will then say it’s like a Rolex or it’s from the Rolex family or it’s like Rolex’s little brother or a less expensive Rolex, etc. You will find your self defending the watch. When you wear a Rolex someone may say wow beautiful Rolex, they may ask how much a watch like that cost but that’s about it.
