As the Bus approaches Fairy Bridge the auto announcer states, 'Say Hello to the Fairys' and as the Bus Crosses it, the announcer says, 'Hello Fairys! ' A nice touch connecting the modern tech on the Buses with Tradition. Also loco Drivers exchange Tokens with each other at Castletown makes for a great photo op as the tokens are old wooden Batons
Hey guys, me and my family drove past you at fairy Bridge. We all hope you enjoyed your stay. Thankyou for this lovely video. We manx are very proud of our humble little island. Xx
so many great memories as a kid being on that train - one time we missed the last train from Port Erin and the station manager gave us a ride to the next station perfect ! I need to get back there one day
@@moose_ringo9161 to be fair, once you take into account shipping (which is around 3.5-4 hours on the boat from england!) it's not too bad, however at one point they did have to start flying sugar in as we do have a flour mill, and a number of bakeries, but no sugar farms, and the boat hadn't run for a number of days so tesco almost ran out of bread!
This video is GREAT! It's like a trip back in time. Love Vickie's history lessons. The video is surpurb! Enjoyed the interview with the manual gate keeper!
I love the Isle of Man! There's so much to explore, and those explorer cards are brilliant because you can use them on all the transport on the Island. My favourite place on the Island has to be the Laxey Wheel. It's so beautiful.
I love the compartment carriages! I don't think I've been on one for over thirty years! They remind me of Agatha Christie stories now :D Fun little coda - can't wait for parts 2 and 3!
It's the isle of a man! I love steam trains, they're so cool and I get to learn more about the past. I also like it when Vicki explores castles. All the castles
Fairy Bridge is great!! I've done several bus trips across the bridge and everytime there was an automated announcement to say hello to the fairies and the whole bus did. A great tradition that everyone seems to follow, back there in August and guess what. I'll be saying hello to the fairies. A fabulous Island.
I'm with Vicki: Jurassic Park? Also, yay, and just, well, hurrah. Just finished binge watching your trip round Ireland last night so really pleased this is up!
Many years ago I was in the I.o.M for the TT Races. I had bought some rather nice souvenirs and had them stuffed inside my leather jacket. I remember riding my 7500cc Honda motorcycle across the Fairy Bridge and NOT saying hello to the fairies. After all, who believes in fairies? When I got back to my hotel in Douglas my jacket was still firmly fastened but all the souvenirs had vanished. I made sure after that, and for many years when I visited the Island, that I ALWAYS greeted the fairies. Loved your video as always Geoff.
Love the steam whistle. And I didn't know there as such a thing as a compartment train. Trains with compartments, yes. How elegant! And that these trains are still normal commuter rail is so cool! The castle ruins at the end - wow!!
Just wonderful, lovely place very picturesque! 👍 Great drone shots! 😊This makes me so happy to see you both on another ATS journey...castles...drone shots...Fairy's, little people...interviews (hi Ian & Chris...& Patirick too)...local history...all in the first video! Thank you!
Me and my mate Smiley used to catch a compartment train to work each morning from St Deny's to Woolston in the 1970's. We'd head to the end of the train as no one would be in the last compartment. Sadly Smiley didn't make it to the 21st century.
I have always gone for a holiday every 2-3 years to the Isle of Man and I always do the steam railway first day like you so brilliant choice of travel arrangement. Also the engines you were on: 15 Caledonia was built in 1885 for the Manx Northern Railway from St. John to Ramsey and also 12 Hutchinson was built in 1908. Also in the 1990's when I was a kid it was the only engine to be painted in blue. You should have gone to the House of Mannanin when you were in Peel brilliant history of the early settlers of the Island, The Celts and Vikings but also the building it is in is the old Peel Station when it was in use from 1873-1968. Food for thought. Can't wait for the next trip you do on the Isle of Man. & by the way nice TT Cap Geoff. 😊😄
Those train cars are absolutely adorable!!! And of course nothing beats the thrill of the ATS music curing a montage. But then you followed it with Vicki and a castle! Also, is that an omniocular necklace? #allthefeels
Fantastic first Isle of Man Video, Ian has a great job, catching the bus to different places for his lunch with a 2hour break between the next trains. Cant wait to see the next two videos. Glad you had a good first day.
There are a few strangely placed "airport" stations in Scotland too! Dyce for Aberdeen Airport, the station near Edinburgh Airport and the station they are building at Inverness Airport are all a relatively large distance from the airport building!!!
45 years ago (almost to the day), we spent our honeymoon on the Isle of Man! Based in Douglas, we enjoyed trips on all the different modes of transport (steam, horse-drawn, electric x 2, and bus). Great memories - we may have to go back for our Golden Wedding Anniversary!
I enjoyed the live traillers on periscope &c. I was vaguely looking forward to the main feature, but this film is just so good it was a joyous surprise! Yourselves and your team are proved to be so good now that it seems you will just keep getting better at big things with practise. Well done.
One of my work colleagues used to work on the IOM and told me about the Fairy Bridge. They do take it seriously as well if you don't say hello or goodbye to them.
its a form of spina bifida... and its illegal to purposefully breed a manx cat due to this... ferals breeding by themselves can't be controlled and is outside of the scope of the law..
I used to ride my bicycle across the crossing at Ballasalla twice a day, going to and from school, pining for trains, but alas there were none as the trains were shut down in the mid-sixties. Just my luck, as soon as we moved back to England the trains started up again! I am really looking forward to the next two videos.

The Isle of Man looks really interesting; I've never thought of going there before. Thanks!
A lot of rich people live there; it's kind of a tax haven. Consequently, everything's a bit pricey.

Thoroughly enjoying this. Will be sharing your episodes with my Manx cousins!
Geoff: 'Jurassic Park'
Vicki: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I shouted "someone cover my eyes!"
Great video, I learned a lot. Can't wait for the next instalment. Btw, Vicki - love your outfit, very stylish and summery xx
Joanne Gray I was going to say the same about the flowery outfit!
Tom Gruitt I’m in Maine in November and wasn’t thinking summer.
I went to the Isle of Man for the sole purpose of using the steam train, the electric railway and the horse drawn dram. It was great!

Does Ronaldsway Halt have more passengers per year than Tees-side Airport?
it's so weird actually knowing the stuff you're talking about since I used to get the train every Sunday to the beach
You may have noticed there's no turntable at Port Erin, so the steam locomotives have to pull all the trains back towards Douglas tender first.
