9:59 thats my white honda accord. Black balsam knob is one of my favourite spots to hike at.
Thank you so very much. Your video is helping me plan my own trip. It’s very thorough and it’s good to actually see what the trail is like.
Hands down my favorite trail and I grew up in the Adirondacks of NY. Celebrated my 40th Birthday here. Much love 💯✊
I went around Thanksgiving a few years back, and set up my tarp on top of Balsam Knob in maybe 45 degree weather and clear skies. Woke up to 10 degrees and 10 inches of snow, visibility only about 25 feet.
HydeMyJekyll ahhh awesome!!
2010?
@@SKIADK probably! Either 2010 or 2011, definitely around that time. Sounds like you may have been in the area around the same time?
Thanks for this very fine video which covers my favorite part of the planet! It brings back a lot of excellent memories. I hope you will not think too badly of us day hikers, who may be approaching those 'golden years'. We maybe have done our bit of multi-day treks long ago. But that requires a minimalist mindset, as you've demonstrated here. We cannot carry our steaks, wine and Yeti coolers 30 miles, in such terrain. Best wishes! I will check your channel to see where else you've been.
Nice job. Planning on an Oct thru hike...very slow and steady. Your video will help im sure. Thanks for sharing!
Steve, you're still baggin the miles.. always enjoy the videos.. my profile pic was from the greasy cove trail up there..
Thanks Steve! That was a tough 35 miles. Loved every minute of it.
Good video. I think I will hike this trail. Thanks for your video and inspiration
I'm planning a thru hike next summer and you stamping your videos with times and milage really helps me plan. Thank you. If I added anything to the videos is trail condition and difficulty. That's nice to know in advance too. I subscribed today so keep up the good work.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching!
Great edit of the Art Loeb. I’m shooting for a hike of Art Loeb in the Fall this year. Pretty excited to log these miles.
Thanks man, appreciate it. Looking forward to the video!
Real nice photography. You really looked beat setting up camp 1st night.
Thank you! I like to push myself when I'm out there
Awesome trip! I need to make a backpacking trip to that side of the state one day.
Thanks man!
Just finished a thru hike there a few weeks with a friend. Took two cars and self shuttled for convenience...hiked in at midnight up to Deep Gap. Then to next Deep Gap Shelter (just beyond). Then to Chestnut knob. I found the pocket guide helpful to stay on course but the water reference and "view" notes are crap (imho). We never found the water at the Cedar Rock camp and didn't see the one in the Black Balsam Forrest (tho we had plenty of water coming off BB knob). The last water source before Chestnut knob was sketchy...great hike none the less, we nicknames the trail down to the parkway as the devil's staircase. Was glad we had dry conditions! Thank you for making the videos.
Thanks for watching Mark! I didn't count on the guide for water sources so I can't comment there. I dry camped both nights, filled up at the shelters and the shining rock gap intersection. It really was a great trip. Heck I didn't even open the guide until Pilot mountain. It was nice to know exactly how much further I had to go
Wolf Packs I'm in Raleigh also...hit me up if you want to hike local and see if compatible for some other BPack trips. I would recommend a loop out of Damascus Va up the Iron Mtn trail and across Cross Mtn Rd to the AT and back to the car. I did as an overnight but 2 nights would be smarter lol.
This was awesome Steve! Great video!
Thanks Greg, appreciate it!
Great video really enjoyed it , Thanks
Thanks Gary! appreciate you watching and commenting!
What kind of watch is that and also why don’t you make videos anymore???
Great video! Heading that way next month. I have the same tent. What pack are you using? Also which Garmin watch do you have? Have been looking at them. Thanks!
Awesome video man! I’m set to hike the art loeb on July 4. Just wondering how difficult navigation was? Where did you get the map you were using? I have the pocket profile map of the trail, wondering if I should get another? Did you use any gps apps? Great video!!! Thank you
Another great video! One of your best so far.
Do you have any plans to hike the Uwharrie Recreation Trail north of Jumping Off Rock? I keep reading that there is another 20 miles of trail north of that, but trying to find coherent information on that part of the trail is proving difficult for me. I keep getting conflicting information about it. Hell, finding good info on the 20 mile established trail is hard sometimes.
Thanks! Really appreciate all the comments. I haven't really thought about doing another Uwharrie video but you've sparked some interest.
I need you to make more videos! Where the hell are you!?
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Which map are you using at 2:09?
It is very easy to get lost in Shinning Rock Wilderness.
Awesome next hike on my list!
Corey Cannon thanks for watching! You will enjoy this trip for sure!
It's amazing.
Great Video. Thanks
You have a wrist watch that apparently isn't affected by your body temperature, unlike every wrist watch with temperature I've seen. What's the brand/name? Thanks.
No headless cows...I think regular cows are allowed. Does that mean I can bring my elephant? Greg, Outdoors sent me. Great video.
LMAO...Thanks dude! appropriate you watching and commenting! Greg has some great videos!
Anyone else wondering what happen with him making vids :(
Really Great video !!! What part of trail is most difficult to find the trail ? What if anything would you recommend on a solo trip REAL soon ?? I would appreciate anything !!
Thanks! If you plot your course out on a GPS prior to going its pretty easy to follow. I enjoyed having the pocket profile. Antigravity gear sells them. www.antigravitygear.com/shop/pocket-profiles-guides-books/pocket-profile-art-loeb-trail-elevation-profile-map/
I did two hours in the art loeb once
I was screaming in fear this entire video
How much was your shuttle? Do you have their website?
pvadventures.com/adventures/art-loeb-trail-shuttle/
The current prices are on their website. Its seems a little pricey but considering the driver spends almost 3 hours driving round trip it's pretty reasonable.
Havent been backpacking since I graduated high school 10 years ago (#life) gearing up to get back into and have plane tickets bought to NC in may. Would you suggest the ALT thru hike as a good first time back trail or should I plan a loop that incorporates it?
The ALT is an outstanding trip. If you're in reasonable shape I would say go for it.
Enjoyed the video, what packit gourmet meal was that? keep the videos coming!
Appreciate it! Texas state fair Chili, my favorite!
Enjoyed keep hikeing my friend love watching
Thanks!
There is a trail over cedar rock. I will probably do that one this summer.

If you are ever near Brevard and want to grab a meal go to Dee Dee Bullwinkles uptown. Best hotdogs around. The pickled tomatoes are good too.
Anyway, thanks for the videos. Always good to have some hikes to watch on RUclips, when I cant get out myself.
Very cool, Thanks for sharing that and watching!
Will you share me the shuttle service info?
pvadventures.com/art-loeb-trail-shuttle/
Thanks so very much 💕
Would love to see a video of your trip if you make one!
Wolf Packs - I’m thinking between this or the Foothills Trail. Won’t be till March. Also this trail does not have blazes like the AT? I am pretty new and never got lost in the AT.
Wolf Packs - I am going to South Dakota in 2 weeks. I’m going to hike the deep snow and day camp, if it wont snow storm. I cant do overnight, the Mountain Lions will eat me. Stay tuned!
