Hmm. I donno about this.. Not saying your wrong but I have a lot of experience woodworking. It is possible that the ring is so tight that it will bell out the shell at each end. Wood, even plywood with time will relent to whatever force is applied. Im wondering if a better technique would be to install as you did BUT with less of an interference fit and glue it in using several clamps around the rim. Even cheap spring clamps would work since the glue will bond. Also, rings that tight will definitely dampen the resonance of that drum shell.
Thanks Jeff great video found you on drum history do you have more content is this your only channel?I’m more of a hobbyist super fun love drums your you saying don’t go super tight with this process with Keller shells?
Super constructive suggestions from the guy with no content. Brushes create waste and serve no other purpose than to keep my finger clean. But water does that. When compressing one piece inside the other, it takes lubing up both pieces. Just cause there's glue on both pieces doesn't mean there's too much. Very minimal glue to clean.
Thanks for sharing, man! I'm trying this in a few weeks and I had no idea how to do it 🙌🏽

Do you use smaller reinforcement rings on the batter side?
Thanks! I just ordered some reinforcement rings and was wondering how to install. They are too big to just fit in. Cheers!
Enjoy!
Tighter is definitely better than loose.

Do you route the inside edge any differently or at a different angle than a drum without a re-ring?
Is this the same process for installing the locating collar/ring in your nesting bass drum and floor tom shells?
It is! Makes for a very stable lock between the shells and eliminates buzz.
Ross from Friends .. fits rerings
Use a brush next time. Also, no need for glue on both surfaces. More glue doesn't mean better bond...
