This is a question for the 0372, as a Retired USMC FORECON 0326, now simply designated 0321, I've attended a few social gatherings where a CSO was present and have heard a few say that they wished they had stayed with FORECON instead of going on to be a Raider If you could do it over would you stay with FORECON or would you still do selection and indoc + the added 6 year contract to go 0372.

The chemistry of the cast really was genius, so I think not letting Lilley play himself had a certain logic, because I’m reading the book and it’s missing some of the lovability I felt the show had. Because of the writer not always understanding whereof he spoke, I think.

I just rewatched generation kill last week still holds up after being out so many years, I been specifically waiting for this episode to see what lilley had to say about the series and pick it apart
In a fucked up way, Generation Kill was one of the biggest reasons I joined the Marine Corps. It came out in like 2008 or 2009 and I enlisted in 2010. I didn't do anything cool but I will say that the various Marines portrayed in the series had others just like them across the fleet. When I see the show now I think of them, not necessarily the people actually portrayed if that makes any sense.
Dude...as a O.I.F. vet in the Army. I love this fucking show. I have nothing but respect for the Marines. My G.F was 5th division WW2. My brother was 1st division in Operation Desert shield/storm, & L.A. riot's. Much love.
Great timing. I'm actually watching generation kill right now. And I love it. Edit: so lily was the guy who was always recording? And saying brah alot?
Even this guy didn't give a squat. He must have heard Captain America on the radio. And what about Encino man that was his company commander. But "he doesn't know"
5:26 I don't know if it was intentional but I always got that impression from how the character was played in the show. Super cool to hear the reporter attended reunions too.
Had no clue that Lilley was this Jason! that's so fucking dope edit: rudy reyes is a motivation of mine for joining the marine corps and trying to do recon. its cool that you actually know them all and stuff
I looked up Sixta. Dude, he went for the little girl of a family he had befriended. How gross is that. Hope you are both doing well these days and that the channel is growing.
TLDR: cool video bruh. Big ups to Lilley, Patrick, the USMC and the rest of the active and reserve military. I believe we were as careful and honorable as we could be in those chaotic circumstances. That clip series really reminds me of something I cut together back in 2009. I had just gotten out of the Air Force. At the time I didn't realize that it was based on the commencement of combat operations in 2003/2004. I had a chance to hang out with a few Marines since then. Hearing that the Cobras and fixed wing air support was comforting to the ground soldiers... Seeing the faces of people that I might have helped by being an aircraft mechanic... It feels like an old wound is closing, some old doubts are being put to rest. It reminds me of when I was little; back in 1988 or 89. My dad was Army. He came home one day with his mo bag and showed me and my brother the chem gear and a flac vest. He talked about needing to go to fight bad people. I was 4 or 5 years old. That was his war. I still don't have any kids. When I went I didn't have to explain where I was going or what I was going to do. I think the deployment was harder for some than others. I was sent in to replace another crew chief. I hoped to boost morale a bit; have some cake and ice cream... haha. That's when I bought my first digital camera, a Nikon P90 I think. A little hand held with a long optical zoom. Some part of me is very okay with war. The part of me that wants to protect my compatriots. To provide the best weapons on Earth to the most disciplined fighters on Earth. I respect the qualities of front line fighters, thanks to the reporting, the literature, the RUclips channels and veterans. My personal conflicts aside, I enjoyed the personal time I spent with people when death loomed overhead. That's when the bluster and peacocking evaporated and a true meritocracy arose. Race be dammed, they needed the best on hand. I might have taken it too lightly. As much as I butted heads with Utley, I felt like he respected me. When I asked for a birthday cake, he drove me to pick one up from the mess hall (operated by Army). He drove me to get my wisdom teeth pulled in an emergency surgery. He made me field strip my AR in front of the SSgts to help prove I knew my stuff. He even put me on heavy maintenance instead of the menial pre/post flight inspections or "mid shift" maintenance. We were the closest when our backs were to a barbed wire fence. I still feel like the little brother to Marines. Handing them guns and ammo, armor and air support. Anti-Terrorism requires an ability to use social cues and non-verbal language to determine who dies in the next 5 seconds. I can see why certain police departments would scour the workforce for people capable of that particular role.
That must be so wild to have a miniseries made about your deployment like that down to the platoon level. Must be like watching yourself in a funhouse mirror mixed with a game of telephones. Its a pretty good show.

Some creative criticism; it would be nice next time to maybe pause the clip while you're discussing it, because I found it hard at times to focus on what you were saying with another conversation going on in the background. It also felt like bits were getting talked over that would've been enjoyable to hear your input on. Also, pausing to look up the characters you're talking about could help, because in one bit there was total confusion over who was being discussed for a straight like fifteen seconds. Might just help with the structure/flow a little. But it's really cool hearing your input; hearing from people who were there, and people who have relevant experience. It's really insightful. Thanks for the vid, enjoyed it!
Bit surprised he couldn't name Brad Colbert or the actor playing him ...considering he has the most screen time of everyone across all of the episodes. It's almost like he hasn't watched it ;)
That is cool you are having a reunion in May I think what would be great if your interview them and get their perspective and their thoughts about Generation Kill both the book and movie. I read Nate Flick’s book I thought it was really good
I have read the book and own the movie Generation Kill. I served in the Marines from 1996 - 2000. There are very, very few military movies that are spot-on accurate. This movie was based on an embedded reporter’s words. Also artistic license was taken to make it a better movie. Overall though this movie was pretty well on the money. The disrespect among the enlisted for the officers was a lot higher than it would’ve been in actuality as far as from my point of view as a Motor Transport Mechanic. I watched it with my wife and pointed out all of the accuracies and inaccuracies. But overall it was a very well made presentation of modern Marine Corps life and attitudes. The 2 funniest parts of the movie to me was the reporter during the apparent gas attack and the Marines making fun of the meeting with the Iraqi locals.

I kinda wanted to know more about your take on Trombley and Captain America. Also i advise to pause the video to discuss talking points so you can talk in full length while not missing the video
I actually met Fruity Rudy at Comic-Con while the show was airing, he's a class act! (Generation Kill is one of my all time fave mini-series/tv shows, I was actually just watching it again the other week)
Jason fucking Lily.... Ill be god damned. Little birdie told me you were making pod casts and I had to see it for myself and came across the channel. Glad to see you looking healthy and doing good things man. I hope all is well, its been a long time.
I think the one scene I loved in this was when the convoy was moving into a city and saw one of their own trucks blown to high hell, camera cuts inside of it we see blood and a some charms candy laying on the side open up, which if any of you who serve around this time or at least know about the curse charms candy made me think." Holy shit did these guys get blown up cause someone open the charms?!"
Jason, were you on the 15th MEU about a year before the invasion? I know some of the guy portrayed were (Rudy, Fick was B 1/1 Weapons Plt Commander) I was Weapons 1/1 during the 15th MEU and RCT 1 during the invasion. Also a character that was portrayed later GySgt Swarr was a LCpl rigger at 1st ANGLICO when I was there. I loved Generation Kill. It portrayed life during the invasion very well.
Screwby: A descriptive word to used to denote something as really cool, fly, hot, awesome; or really horrible, bad, or lame. Dude, that trick was screwby sick.
Lilley you should read Evan's book, I reckon it would be really meaningful for you and put a lot of context into the nutty and amazing stuff that happened in the invasion. He talked to a lot of people, not just in the battalion.
I read the book because I liked the show so much. Honestly the book is very similar to the show. Very. I didnt quite finish it because Ive seen the show multiple times and it was good but It was just like watching the show a 3rd time.
@@adamwhatley4710 That's not quite the experience I had. It contains greater detail and covers some things that occur between episodes in the show. There is also a lot of context and interpretation by Wright whose background in youth sub-cultures and knowledge of politics and medieval history can really help you understand why things happened the way they did (POG officers in combat, light-skinned humvees, changes in plan etc.) and also why marines of this generation behave the way they do. One of my favourite things that isn't in the show is Wright's conversation with a marsh Arab man, who is the the same age as Wright but looks like an old man, and asks him if he can come with the marines to strangle Saddam himself.
I recommend reading One Bullet Away by Lt. Fick describing GK events from his point of view. You'll find out lot of stuff that went into the command decisions during the invasion.
So awesome you all remember HBO for what it used to be. I remember my parents recording a VHS tape on the Free HBO channel. A lot of my first movie memories are because of that. This series however, I loved! It’s so true regardless of branch. I was forward deployed to Al Taqqadum with the Marines. Best and worst time of my life but something I’ll always remember
random question (and I know the source is not reliable) but I once read on reddit that recon post like 2006 never really got combat deployments again. I was shocked as Marines were heavily involved in all the Afghanistan surge stuff. Is this true? Was it the re introduction of the raiders that changed everything for them?
As an Army guy, I thoroughly enjoyed Generation Kill. While my experience is from 1988=1996, many things are the same, across branches. Except that Marines get the shit the Army send to DRMO😆
Jason, you should’ve gotten the part because while i personally never served and probably don’t know wtf i’m talking about but i think having veterans in war movies who have actually done the stuff in the movie in real life would make the movie a lot better due to it being more realistic that way.
Acting is a different skillset to soldiering. If the producers thought the actor could do it better in a movie format, I don't blame them. But I probably would have brought him on as a consultant instead...
When I first watched this I didn’t know it was based on a book but when I did and saw that David Simon who made one of my favourite shows of all time (the wire) and was the show runner I wasn’t worried considering that he was a reporter and he left because the people running it were doing a terrible job, anyway having seen the wire I got a sense of his style and I knew that despite some dramatisation here and there, he cares about realism first and foremost so I liked generation kill a lot. is it 100% accurate? Not really but ya gotta understand that it’s inevitable that it would happen and David Simon is the only one that I can think of who can make something entertaining but realistic at the same time so there’s literally no one who can do generation kill justice but David Simon
After hearing about sixta. I was 2-3 inf regt. SSG Bales was in our HQ recon sniper platoon. He did what he did afghanistan 2012. Crazy how some people do certain things and knowing bales I thought he was a great leader and awesome nco.
What I find funny is Bravo company is the best company in 1st recon but they got a moron for a co and Alpha company are a bunch of morons but they have some one who is competent as a co.
Even tho he didn't get the part I thought they did a really good job with the cast. Felt like each guy played their character the way they should have ya know?
I just re watched the whole series and was looking for Lilley but I have to admit, I got his character confused with Stafford a LOT throughout the series. I feel they didn’t do as good of a job as they could with some of the subtleties between different personalities

Great video guys. Would love to hear your input on the entire series. Glad you guys made it home.
Coming soon!
Would love it as well
I kinda wanted to know more about your take on Trombley and Captain America.
Got this on bluray, loved it
Jason fucking Lily.... Ill be god damned. Little birdie told me you were making pod casts and I had to see it for myself and came across the channel. Glad to see you looking healthy and doing good things man. I hope all is well, its been a long time.
I think the one scene I loved in this was when the convoy was moving into a city and saw one of their own trucks blown to high hell, camera cuts inside of it we see blood and a some charms candy laying on the side open up, which if any of you who serve around this time or at least know about the curse charms candy made me think." Holy shit did these guys get blown up cause someone open the charms?!"
funny that Jason react on the person who play him in the movie
Jason, were you on the 15th MEU about a year before the invasion? I know some of the guy portrayed were (Rudy, Fick was B 1/1 Weapons Plt Commander) I was Weapons 1/1 during the 15th MEU and RCT 1 during the invasion. Also a character that was portrayed later GySgt Swarr was a LCpl rigger at 1st ANGLICO when I was there.
I loved Generation Kill. It portrayed life during the invasion very well.
Alpha 1/1, erah
Screwby: A descriptive word to used to denote something as really cool, fly, hot, awesome; or really horrible, bad, or lame. Dude, that trick was screwby sick.
7:35 You can just tell they adopted Evan Wright as an honorary Marine in their unit 😂
@@EpicMRPancake Oh yeah it definitely has more context. I really liked the book...and the show is one of my favorites.
I recommend reading One Bullet Away by Lt. Fick describing GK events from his point of view. You'll find out lot of stuff that went into the command decisions during the invasion.
I lost it when he said, "Smoked weed at cyclic rate. It's crazy."
Did that reporter actually try to speak up for LT. Nate?
5:06 RUDY!!! He's now on SPECIAL FORCES : World's Toughest Test on FOX
Have an awesome time in MT, Jason. I don't know if you've ever been there but Northwest Montana is killer.
Enjoyed the input, wouldn’t have minded if it went on longer.
5:50 i live in montana.... idk, just funny to me
have fun
For anyone about to watch Generation Kill, put subtitles on because a lot of funny stuff is said by the supporting actors like Manimal.
What a great episode. More content like this, please 😮
For you who don't know jason is a real dude. Grew up with him. He inspired me to join the Marines.
just started beering, gonna be a savage weekend
You should check out CivDiv videos, he's vlogging the whole Kharkiv counterattack. Love your videos.
Poor Sixta actor 😂
Jason what watch are you sporting? thanks
It's from Stirling Timepieces
@@SAVAGEActual thanks gents, IMHO 11Bravo Gen Kill is a history lesson and should be taught. JMO
random question (and I know the source is not reliable) but I once read on reddit that recon post like 2006 never really got combat deployments again. I was shocked as Marines were heavily involved in all the Afghanistan surge stuff. Is this true? Was it the re introduction of the raiders that changed everything for them?
Jesus the guy with glasses doesn't have a thought going through his head lol.
I didn't know Jason was in it during the invasion pretty cool
As an Army guy, I thoroughly enjoyed Generation Kill. While my experience is from 1988=1996, many things are the same, across branches. Except that Marines get the shit the Army send to DRMO😆
Classic show
Jason, you should’ve gotten the part because while i personally never served and probably don’t know wtf i’m talking about but i think having veterans in war movies who have actually done the stuff in the movie in real life would make the movie a lot better due to it being more realistic that way.
Acting is a different skillset to soldiering. If the producers thought the actor could do it better in a movie format, I don't blame them. But I probably would have brought him on as a consultant instead...
Great vid!
1:45 - Have you heard of Walker Hayes, the country singer? Y'all aren't the same person, right? Cousins perhaps?
Hope we can see some footage of the catch up of all you guys.
Will you guys react to more COD Black Ops 1 missions anytime soon?
Thanks for the video glhf
Ray is the best haha. Cracks me up.
Its not that shocking that HBO didnt cast you when your not an actor lol its a completely unique skill set
How did Rudy get his role? Haha. Now he's also a Canadian sf guy according to mw2
Yeah, thats funny.
Because he’s Rudy. No one but himself could play him.
I especially appreciated how he pulled his shite in the same AO and timeframe that I was driving around the locals...
usually when I hear something fell off a truck the person has new item.
What I find funny is Bravo company is the best company in 1st recon but they got a moron for a co and Alpha company are a bunch of morons but they have some one who is competent as a co.
Maybe ask him some questions eh
I didn’t know Jason knew those guys.
Jason is portrayed in the show even, I believe he’s Espera’s keep driver
I wish you would talk more about religion and politics, I can't find any of those topics on Twitter.
Lucky for you then.
Classic
Even tho he didn't get the part I thought they did a really good job with the cast. Felt like each guy played their character the way they should have ya know?
plz dude you have to make a react of full eps
How's sixta not dead was he sent to a federal one or something
You're reacting to someone reacting to you.
I've only watched GK about 6 times. Seems to be getting a second wind. Be cool to get a new series with a similar vibe.
I just re watched the whole series and was looking for Lilley but I have to admit, I got his character confused with Stafford a LOT throughout the series. I feel they didn’t do as good of a job as they could with some of the subtleties between different personalities
