Maths & VCA as a Compressor

- Maths can be used together with a VCA to create a compressor without needing a dedicated module.
One thing I noticed while editing is that I probably should have used the OR output rather than the Sum output, but the end result was still compression.
“It’s pretty obscure” *plays amen*
Ohh getting funny now huh. Awesome video. Your selection of topics is incredible.
Whoaaaaaaa this is out of the world!!! You're a genius. Please make more videos with this setup, you have the modules of my planned system
Compression is life.
Great vid, thanks........... apart from compression, it seems to also filter away a lot of high freqs. ....... i've got a Maths, gonna give this a try. ........ would be curious to hear an A/B comparison with make-up gain and corrective EQ (hi-freq boost) applied.
It’s because the Optomix is both a VCA and a filter. A more transparent VCA would give you what you want.
amaaaazi g 😊🎉🎉🎉
You are my favourite Hermbot!
Makes sense! Thanks
Nice, this is very handy
Didn’t get were the long white cable went
Great videos! Thanks
I hit the like button at around 3.30 minutes in :)
sooo helpful thanks!
Fucking excellent
If I use this procedure/signal on my VCA (including putting the response curve between exp and logarithmic ) the sound from the VCA sounds distorted and can't find some sweet spot :/
well tried it agin on a intellijel quadvca. maybe i shouldn't use a xaoc praga as vca, though i though i could. the cv signal is not doing to much. the quad vca it sort of works, but the sound is off and the levels are terribly low. I can hear it somewhat working but I can't seem to use it though. :( as your explanation is pretty straight forward. not sure if i'm doing it wrong. or it's just merely approaching the theory, but not really usable in practice. thanks for the vid though!
You mentioned a breakbeat library. To which and where are you referring?
The clip is the "Amen Break", a commonly sampled drum break. I have my own collection of breakbeats I've gathered over time, I encourage everyone to do the same... lots of good material out there.
@@Hermbot ahhh, thanks! Just getting into modular and I've notice that the 808 and similar are a very popular sound that I've never liked. Seems like my journey is toward this Amen Break/drum-sample route.
