- A typical college kid spends starts his spring break in Matamoros, Mexico and then suddenly he just vanishes into thin air. When the cops dig deeper, they find the shack where Mark spent his last hours. In the middle of the floor is the cauldron. They eventually find the rest of Mark in a shallow grave nearby.

Went to school with him. He was so kind and always nice to everyone. His parents were destroyed. They never moved on. I need to book a therapy session after watching half of it. Such a tragedy.

God Bless that family. I was happy to hear, they are WARNING people about the things that go on. The whole world says Americans are the most trusting & usually the most kindest people of any country. The people in America give more then any country. Of their time & money. ( or at least that used to be the stats. Haven't seen the stats for a while, but I'm sure it hasn't changed)
I grew up in Brownsville which is the border town where Mark Kilroy and his friends crossed into Matamoros. As a high school kid, we used to go to Matamoros all the time. Blanca Whites was everyone's favorite bar (none of the bars in Matamoros carded kids). Although I was in college when the Kilroy incident happened, I'll never forget when the news broke just a few years after I'd left. It could have been any one of us high school kids that got picked up and met the same horrific fate as Mark did. A few years after college I was back in Brownsville working at a TV station. One day I was asked to log tapes, that is to say to go through tapes and note what was on them. I about died when I came upon the tapes of the excavation of Mark Kilroy's body. Ghastly. I only watched a little bit but that was more than enough. It still chills me to this day. God rest Mark Kilroy's soul.
I grew up in San Benito and was in middle school when this happened. And the crazy thing is, we still went to Matamoros to party as seniors in high school. I suppose it was the mindset of youth and the "that would never happen to us" that kept us going. RIP Mark

This case was all over the news and was featured on AMERICA'S MOST WANTED. John Walsh was visibly heartbroken when he came on TV that Sunday night to break the sad news. A lot of what happened was never reported, but that didn't stop the news from reporting that it was a drug deal gone bad. It has its downside, but the internet has been responsible for restoring the good name of many people--Mark, included.

I grew up in Northern CA in the late 90s/early 00's and it was extremely popular for high school students to go down to Mexico/TJ for spring break. Unfortunately, my high school mentor was killed in a similar way to Mark. I still think about her all the time. She was an honor student, recruited to play softball for a prestigious college, and killed for being a beautiful blonde American on vacation.
It's insane how common this story is, and how long it took for parents and schools to stop promoting Mexico as a safe place for teens to go party, unaccompanied. RIP Laura and RIP Mark.

This was a horrible thing to do to a human being. Too bad they couldn’t find Mark sooner. They way he must have suffered is unbearable think about. So 15 missing people, including a cop, & the only reason the authorities find out is cause of the nephew speeding. Wow. Glad I wasn’t living in that town.
Wow, so that’s why my dad was freaked out when he had to go to Brownsville on business when I was a kid, back in the 80s. What a nightmare for that poor kid.

I was attending UT Austin when of this happened. We all followed this story and were shocked at the outcome. I didn't know him but this hit close to home. 😢

Don’t worry, she is currently in jail and has been for over 30 years, she was also beaten and tortured to the point of disfiguration while in jail, apparently

You might notice that none of the horrible things they did actually worked. They weren't invisible, they weren't protected from law enforcement. Almost like Satan isn't a real thing and they were just delusional evil idiots.
In 1990 are Fraternity went to South Padre Island, they told us to stay together because blonde white males were disappearing in Mexico. I WAS A BLONDE WHITE MALE, like several of us. We all stayed together, but look what could have happened!!!!
I was there with my college dance team! We were told to always stay together! Our parents did not want us to go.
Hi Chris and Amy! I’ve heard this story many times and every time it just hits me so hard. It is absolutely horrid. I can’t imagine what he went through and how scared he must have been. It’s just so sad. I’m glad his parents/family and friends did and still do something good out of this evil act.

A tragedy. Mark’s Parents, family and friends have to deal with the trauma of Mark’s death every day of their lives. I hope they have all found some healing.
