I just received my top-trimmed Kia Sportage, and find it absolutely ridiculous that it does NOT have wireless CarPlay/AA built-in. After all, why in the world would Kia offer WIRELESS charging just to then require the user to use a wire for CarPlay?
While I appreciate the effort put in to creating this video, it is an attempt by Kia to normalize the stunning oversight of not having wireless CP on its expensively trimmed models. Instead of reviewing other companies' attempts to create a wireless CP solution for its most expensive cars, Kia should be providing this solution from the factory. And, while Gabi and Pat talk about whether they like wired CP more than these dongles, the real question is, do they like wired CP more than the wireless CP that Kia already offers on its small screened (ie, cheaper) models.
It is completely and totally absurd that the customers that pay you the most for your vehicles have to go out and try to find a 3rd party solution to a problem that Kia itself created.
Well said! Was planning to buy a trim that comes with the larger screen UNTIL I learned only the lower-level trims have wireless AA... WTH? I'm still waiting to decide what I'll do about it, maybe wait for the 2025 models and hope the larger screens will finally get the wireless feature... Very very very frustrating indeed...
HO damn Duke your comments sum it all up perfectly.
Awesome idea! Thanks for taking the time to test and share to give people some potential options, if the lack of a wireless component might be preventing somebody from making a purchase.
I'm new to the Kia community having just bought a CPO '22 Soul X-line and I really appreciate all the content you guys put out to help people get the most out of their cars...I wish my dealer would put in 1/8th or 1/100th the effort, but I digress. The comment I'm about to make is directed at Kia (as opposed to Brantford), but what-the-fork Kia?! I test drove a Soul with an 8-inch screen and it had wireless CarPlay but no wireless charging, then I bought an X-Line with the 10-inch "upgraded" display that has only wired CarPlay but wireless charging. In neither case can you simply put down your phone and be charging and CarPlay-ing wirelessly. Between the two, I think I'd rather have the 8-inch screen with wireless CarPlay and no wireless charging...but I really shouldn't have to choose. The wireless adapters you guys tested are a solution that gets it done, but they're klunky, inelegant solutions that feel like something you should need for a car from the 2010s, not one that's brand new. I'm gonna hope for a firmware update that makes everything work...also not holding my breath.
I agree they should offer wireless option with higher line vehicles. 6 monthes ago i purchased 2023 seltos nightfall. I see a Indian video they installed a wireless charger into a seltos model in India. Did a software update and resulted in wireless charging and wireless carplay. KIA USA should step up and correct this issue...
Crazy that cars costing in excessive of 40-50k don’t come with wireless apple carplay android auto as standard.
I hope Hyundai/Kia watches this video and they see how much trouble they are causing by not allowing wireless Apply Carplay & Android Auto to be on their units. It seems futile to try to push Hyundai/Kia navigation.
Tbh even in a car like I have Android auto but I still preparer the wired and riot auto way better. Wireless android auto still isn't as good as when plugged in.
Personally, android auto and voice assistants seem completely useless. Either they don't work or don't have a useful purpose. Tried wired android auto in my 2019 ram 1500 limited (not cheap) once and never used it again, it seemed to do nothing more than uconnect could.
Most people barely even use nav anyways, phone pairing is usually built into the car, and androud auto doesn't do much beyond that. And for mysic there is always an usb stick
@@enormegaming1147 Speak for yourself! I use it every day in my two hour commute. I use the maps, I send texts using voice controls and I play music through AA and I rely on it heavily. It works very well for me!
@@dalehuhtala9285 What vehicles are you driving??
@@enormegaming1147 A Genesis GV70 and a GMC Sierra half ton...both with AA.
Wireless CarPlay makes a huge difference. I have factory installed wireless in my new vehicle, and there is no going back.
you're channel always has what i am looking for! Thanks for this!
Happy to help!
I own a Carlinkit 4.0 in my Ioniq, working pretty well without issues, now Carlinkit 5.0 has been launched and is even better
Well I have noticed that with wireless carplay, no matter the brand of adaptor, there is lag in the phone calls. For android auto the Motorola MA1 works flawlessly.
Brantford KIA always make those videos interesting and helpful. Bravo to Gabrielle for her great spots on this channel. Beautiful and funny... very natural ! :)
Thanks for making this. I had no idea these wireless adapters were even a thing!
Glad I could help!
hey the blooper actually showed how great the speakers sound
Thanks for the vid. it is crazy that the larger/upgraded screen in my K5 GT Line is wired, but the smaller screen version is wireless...
I'm I the only one who thinks the way she just has fun with the videos is adorable?
Calm down, simp.
I have the Ottocast in my 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy and it works great. Super easy to install and always works. It’s small so it easily hides in the covered compartment that houses the extra cup holder and USB port. Phone calls, messages, maps, Audible, Waze … all the Apple Car Play apps work great. I highly recommend it.
Does it ever disconnect ? I have a different one and once in awhile it will disconnect but other than that it works great
@@jacedragon I haven’t noticed it disconnect yet but then my car is only two weeks old. I haven’t used it too long. 😊
So awesome you guys did this video because I was curious about these wireless CarPlay adapters. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Still didn't mention WHY the vehicles don't have it. Just went right into the adapter reviews. I own a 2023 Santa Fe and I'm EXTREMELY disappointed that it doesn't have Wireless AA or Carplay. If I had known this prior to buying, I wouldn't have purchased it.
Eagerly waiting for the follow up video. Cool that you are testing these.
Lmao.
I have an older version of the CarlinKit adapter that I use with my 2017 Sorento and it works pretty well. The only thing that I have noticed is phone calls aren't the greatest like you mentioned. Other than that, I do like the unit.
A good review. I collect my Sportage GT Line S next week and going wireless is something I had thought about. However, like Miss Gabby says, using the wired connection the system works perfectly well. I think I’d stick using a cable - for now at least.
Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K.
Stay safe and well.
I have waited for 11 months for mine from Kia in Carlisle. It must be getting here soon. 😀😆😆
@@Dumfries474 hi my friend, that is where my car is ordered from. Mine was ordered in March / April last year.
What did you order if you don’t mind me asking? My son would have loved the Sportage and it’s technology but unfortunately he passed away 9 years ago aged 28.
My wife and I liked the Sportage the first time we saw pictures of it in AutoExpress and she came with me to order it. Unfortunately she passed away last November and won’t see it or enjoy it.
Great to be greeted from Cumbria! We love the UK!
4:47 premium experience, using teams in my car. First it is trying to impede on my laptop by using 5% of the total ram, now it is going to hother me about meetings in my car
These videos are awesome and makes it a lot easier than flipping through the ol thicc manny. Thanks!
No Problem!
I've been using an OTTOCAST Wireless adaptor for about a month in my Elantra N, and it has worked great. I agree with Gabby, wired Carplay does not bother me, however, in the Elantra N I need a right-angle or 90-degree cable (so I can utilize the phone holder) and I have yet to find one that is "Truly" MFi Certified that won't freak the Infotainment System out when its plugged directly into the USB port.
Thanks for the review on this. I was always curious about these products.
Thanks for the videos and the info That’s kinda weird how they don’t support wireless Apple CarPlay/Wireless Android auto. I also like that video you did awhile back about apple car key. I don’t own Kia vehicles but it’s nice too see that feature. I wish they had that for other vehicles. Plus I like the wide displays in some of the other models. Can’t wait to see Apple CarPlay 2.0 😊
For anyone that prefers wired CarPlay simply have not had wireless in their vehicle. I have wireless in my BMW and it is absolutely seamless.
I didn't think anyone prefers a wired connection
I have been watching this video I love watching keep up the great videos we are Hyundai owners so theses videos are hopefully we got a 2020 Hyundai palisade
That's super helpful, thanks! I didn't realize those things exist.
Happy Kia Soul EV owner
You're caught - you are the one who has her volume all the way up when I stop next to you at the traffic lites!
Guilty!
I have a 2021 Kia Soul EX and I use the Motorola MA1 wireless Android auto adapter. Works well.
Love your hair today 😍 Plug in that car play bump that Drake 🇨🇦
Great video...I have a Carsify Wireless adapter for my 2023 Kona Ev Ultimate. No problem, works excellent!
Wish Hyundai/Kia would support it but they don't so no sense whining about it!
Thank you and have a great day!
Oh and I am looking forward to getting my EV6 from you guys...waiting patiently! 🤣
Have a great day guys!
Mike 🇨🇦
Why are the cheaper trim seltos wireless but the ex and higher trim not??? It makes absolutely no sense
Also, wireless auto/carplay drians the battery FAST! So these adapters are fine, but I'd definitely want phone on the wireless charger if I'm using this. Or, need to plug in, at which point why use this?
2020 Sportage wireless charger isn't big enough for larger phones, and there is NO place to comfortably sit the phone while plugged in, which is super annoying and leads me to not use Auto as much as I would, even with the wireless adapter I have.
I wish you could toggle different driving modes to stay on so you don’t have to press it every time you go somewhere. I also wish you could adjust the steering wheel stiffness in different driving modes instead of just sport.
Thank you for doing this. I think I'll stick with the cable.
Love you guys from Australia watch every video... I have the 2022 kia sorento gt line...I have carsify wireless Android auto it is very good much better than what you have ....
Thanks for the review. I own a 2023 Niro EV ltd and often use android auto. But I just don't get this wireless adapter concept thing. You are using a cable to connect to a rectangular box sitting on the consul to talk to your rectangular box phone with blue tooth so your phone is not charging, when you could just plug the phone in directly with the same cable and eliminate the small box thing and get faster response and charge at the same time. Aye what ???
Awesome review! That helped me out a lot
Wow Pat, your car is beautiful!
That was thumping music Gabby, what’s on your music play list?…
I listen to a little bit of everything!
Gabi has the right idea, you have to charge the phone anyhow and wireless charging makes it drop - wired is always > wireless
Please do a follow up video. I have a 2020 Stinger GT1 and was wondering about wireless.
Thank you for the video 👍🏾
My pleasure!
I have a 2021 seltos s and when I did a android auto update on it 2 month ago it went wireless
Gabi in 4K! Yes! I dont mind having to plug my phone in, its right there in easy reach and my wireless charging pad is still available to charge another device. I would only be interested in one that lets you stream Netflix and RUclips but they lag.
Plug my phone in every time I get into my car is a habit since it’s always dying and it charges faster than the wireless phone charger. So wired CarPlay is never an issue for me! Netflix and RUclips streaming would be cool for while you’re parked!
I don't think that A.Auto or A.Carplay knows when the driver Shift out of Parking position...Otherwise any other manufacturer would already have done.
Agree with Gabi wired just works better don’t think wireless is as fast especially with music and phone calls honestly plugging in is not a big deal but it’s great that there is decent options for people who prefer wireless
Can somebody confirm if it is true that higher trims "don't have" wireless because of a deal with TomTom? So wireless "is there", but not enabled?
8:15 🤣 8:20 that face 😍
Would be nice if the wired would work in my Hyundai tucson very frustrating
Hi peeps, my sister just bought a Kia Sportage and she cannot seem to connect to carplay wirelessly. Its the latest model. Is wireless connection supported in this model? Thanks.
I would just say use a magnetic charging cable. I have them on my phone, my headphones and earbuds case. Works great.
I am Joe, from Orlando, Florida. Since I purchased a new 2023 Kia Sportage EX on March 2022 (one of the first on the road here), I have been a fan of your channel. I enjoy the way Gaby does the reviews. But I have a question and I have been looking for an answer on the manuals and I can't find it. On the extreme right corner of the infotainment, next to the Kia signal, there is a red mark, like this *. Is like a red asterisk but I can't find what it means. If you guys knows, I want to know what it means. Thanks in advance.
why not make it native wireless carplay? should be standard on all trims
supra air freshener? i use a wireless adapter for my sonata n line..it's perfect!
Hi my friend, can you tell what make is your adapter please?
@@Trevorfoggia Ottocast u2-x ... I also use an android device and I prefer it wireless as I don't have to worry about plugging it in or worrying about long wires

This one was the one I liked better.
I tried the Carlinkit one but didn't work well with my Sportage. I may try the one from Quadlock soon
Gabi is such a doll 🥰
Kia is making the right move, they would have to deal with people charging their phone with the wireless charger and whine that this is slow. The phones are getting too hot for it to be useful.
Should try the Motorola Ma1 works great for android auto. Also works good in genesis vehicles
My EV6's USB port for CarPlay is ALWAYS powered on, so when I'm at home and my car is parked in the garage, my phone continues to try to connect (and won't connect to my home wifi, as a result) to my AutoSky adapter. Is this the case with either of these units?
Thanks for the review...I have an extra phone and i am considering keeping it in the car fulltime(hidden of course) and using my hotspot on my phone as a way to provide connectivity to the "car" phone. I have only used wireless android auto on a rental, a Niro as it turns out and generally it was good but it had the odd dropout.
Thanks for sharing
AA WIRELESS is the best.... No horrible other Android OS. Just plain Android auto. Simple and fast.
CrApple is so 2018
does the media plug also charge your phone? because wireless charging often doesn't work with a lot of phone cases..
Yes, if you are wired, then your phone is also charging.
Gabi why doesn't kia have wireless built in the larger screens?
Basically, it’s not comparable with the larger screens. However, with the new software in select ‘24 and ‘25 vehicles - we’re getting wireless CarPlay with the 12.3” screens.
Honest review….thanks! 👍
My pleasure!
Didn't address your first question raised...why don't they support wireless? Everyone else does...
Going to try as I hate the plug-in process.
I have another subject to discuss. Does Kia Canada use a third party distributed at port? I heard that this third party places extra accessories onto cars and this cost makes its way onto the sticker price. The increase can be high as $2000.
It’s happening with the largest car manufacturer particularly in Florida and Mississippi and Louisiana areas. These are not negotiable and this is extra profit for the distributors and dealerships.
Sorry for the long question…. Is this happening with Kia dealerships in Ontario?
Thanks
In our early years, the port used to install all of the radios. From time to time, if there's a recall on vehicles, they may do the recall at port. In the US, some dealers will use a "Add a Tag" to show an inflated MSRP with "market adjustments", and maybe say it's a "port installed" accessory? A port installed item wouldn't really add anything extra to the price.
How in the hell does that brand new vehicle not have wireless CarPlay already?
One thing you didn't notice, or for that matter, most don't notice, is that most of those wireless devices are actually the same unit, just rebadged. They're all Android Based (which is funny to me) and all the same unit with a different level of refinement of the english in the unit.
Got a 24 sonata. ccNc for the win.
We loveeeee the new software
Gabbi Check your tires! The tire pressure monitor light is on. just saying :)
Haha thank you! I don't have TPMS in my winter wheels so the lights on ALL winter.
@@BrantfordKia makes sense now :)
Nice to see the Porsche gt3 rs in her personal car.
Adapter - two sided tape (I found they lose their stickiness in winter, but maybe better ones now).
Thank you
Why doesn't kia support wireless on bigger screens? I want to buy new niro but it sucks it doesn't have wireless apple carplay.
Honda can do it so why not Kia ?
It’s to do with a licensing dispute - this has now been resolved, so new cars now have this.
Muy buen video y sobre todo muy honesto, gracias por el review tengo la intención de adquirirlo para mi forte GT
Wireless Android Auto?
Sucks I can’t get this in US. It won’t ship because it’s from Canada
can you leave it plugged into the vehicle when it is off?
Yes, it's only powered when the vehicle is on
I was considering a Telluride. But the ones I was looking at didn't have wireless AA/AC. Goodbye KIA
can't wait for 7 seat electric suv
What’s with the steel wheels?
Canadian winters 😮
We buy steelies/spare tire wheels for winter tires because we cannt be bothered to get the tires switched lol. Very common sight up here, so basically half the year it looks like a base model and the other half it looks premium. There are also people who leave the winter tires on until like april
Cool
4:09min I hope you have Teddy as your favorite too :)
Might try it out, I have a gt line same as gabi but my wired USB keeps disconnecting and it does bother me when I need to use GPS. Idk if it's a car problem or the usb I buy from five below lol.
When the USB disconnects, is your phone on the wireless pad? I've had some issues in my EV6, and I wasn't sure if it was the cable. When I did the wireless video, it dropped all the time if my phone was on the charge pad. If it wasn't, it was 100% stable and didn't drop. Crazy huh!
@@BrantfordKia yeah I do be having it on the wireless pad lol
Keep up the good job
Cau you use the steering wheel to make phone calls on the ev6 with carlinkit?
Yes, it uses Siri just like if it's wired.
@@BrantfordKia okay, i have Android, and it doet not work
In my opinion, requiring wired carplay/android auto, really defeats the whole point of having the wireless charger.
EXACTLY!!! The stupidest design idea ever. Absolutely no incentive in upgrading to the best trim
Quad lock Canada makes one that works great.
Thanks Scott - we will check it out
Gabi such a beauty. Mamamia!😍
Wow an actual non stealth sponsored video
It is kind of ridiculous that our Hundai i20 with the "dumb" 8" screen supports Wireless AA/AC but our Niro EV what did cost 4x as much and has the 10.25" screen does not have it. The built in navi in the niro or rather I should say in the 10.25" infotainment is dog poo especially after the last major update where You need to type in the address of Your destination together in one dreaded line. Whoever came up with that idea was an idiot. Apart from this We love both of our vehicles :)
Nice video and response
Awesome!
8 inch screen has wireless CarPlay!
Had to do a double-take. Thought she was wearing two ankle monitors.
Gabi must rock out in her car when listening to music. I don't think that the volume can go up any higher. Just be careful with your hearing.😳
@4:34 when everything goes wrong just give a thumbs up. @8:16 oh god, not again.
This was a dealbreaker. bought a rav4 instead
La femme dont la beauté fait aimer KIA 😊
I'm driving a rental Hyundai Venue budget clown car that has wireless carplay yet when my EV6 gets here, it will not have it. This is a huge mistake by Kia to overlook this component. Pretty disapointing.
