  • This video highlights the success story of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in increasing youth employment in Nigeria. It focuses on Zainab Ogunlaja who acquired dressmaking skills from one of the short-term trainings sponsored by the programme Skills Development for Youth Employment - SKYE.
GIZ is implementing SKYE on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to address the supply and demand sides of the integrated employment approach by focusing on improving the quality of TVET in the labour-intensive construction and agriculture sectors and the occupational field of industrial mechanics. Since its inception in 2018, SKYE has partnered with various state institutions, non-governmental organisations and (German) private sector companies to implement demand driven TVET and promote employment. Between October 2018 and February 2020, 2,418 young Nigerians have been trained in construction and other professions, 490 of whom have gained employment.
