After the Frame is repaired, the video shows how to install a Windshield. The process took several day, but the video is compressed to show key points of work and install.
Thanks for the detailed instructions. I'll be watching a few more times for my 73 to be perfect.
I like your short videos. You do a good in-depth tutorial for people like me. I'm two years in on my 75 vette restoration and should be done this year with help from your videos thank you.
Thank you. It is all about helping others. Please send me some photos of your car when you get a chance.
Iiam, How is the corvette looking? Do you have any photos? Corvette Hop
Great video, im working on a 76 T top right now have to do pretty much the same thing. Looks like I may need to buy new trim because mine was glued in with silicone. Previous owner not me. Turning into more work then I thought when I bought the car, but it gives me a winter project.
Nice, best to get it correct. That is one reason I love working on my own car. I know it will be done right. Plus, it is an opportunity to get more tools LOL
Great video, very helpful!
Thank you.
Very nice & informative video. Thank you.
Thanks for this. About to do the same on my 71. (Videos on my channel)
Great video. Can you let us know where you got the damming tape? I’m having a miserable time trying to find it. Apparently I can only get it in a pack of 12.
Hi! Which manufacturer windshield did you use? What was a thickness of it? Oem is 9/32. That's importent to sit it corretly using a foam tape thinkness you had used. Thanks
Quality work! I have a 71 corvette that I’m getting ready to install. Was there any backing on the windshield trim when you installed it?
what's the easiest way to remove the dash? I enjoy your videos. Keep 'em coming ! Thanks
Tracy, Are you referring to the main dash with the speedo and Tach or the top dash that runs along the length of the window?
Thanks for taking time to do your videos. Very helpful. Did you use any spacers ( say on the bottom where windshield rests on center and two tabs on the frame ) Also, any spacers used to do the dry fit to make up gap that dam and urethane would be? If you did use spacers, where did you get them? Also, is there normally a "cushion" of rubber or material where the bottom windshield rests on the windshield wiper stop?
Doug, You are welcome. No, I did not need to use any spacers. The alignment came out perfect (Top/Bottom). I did do a dry run of the window before I applied the sealant. My windshield did have a little rubber coating on the windshield rest (bottom) but it was not much. The dry run also helped on aligning the right and left side.
make sure you clean your windshield before you install the tape guys LOL, and btw use gloves... >.>
So I have a 1982 C3 and I noticed that I have rust at the top of the windshield on both sides. I haven't had my windshield removed yet to see how bad it is. I did have to replace the carpet and fold mold on the floor pan of both sides. Luckily there was no rust on the floor. The factory white paint was still fine. I will require a body shop to do this work for me and I was wondering if any of you knew the cost of fixing this?
Hard to tell without seeing if there is any rust or damage. You may be able to remove the trim to get a look at it. If damage is in the birdcage area it can get very expensive.
@@TheWhatisright I live near a Corvette restoration shop that specializes in C1,C2,and C3. I'm sure they are very familiar with this issue. Hopefully it's not a horrible fix.
Actually I believe part of my trim is missing that now that am looking at pictures. I didnt catch that when I bought the Corvette. I wasnt aware of this issue until I started restoring the interior.
Hello, two questions, how much did the windshield cost you? where you bought it? I hope one day my car will look like yours, congrats your car is stunning
I used the old windshield. I had to pull it out because of the frame rusting and sealant deteriorating. It was so bad that I had leaks coming under the window molding. I will say, I think I was very lucky when I pulled the old window out.
I need to borrow Henry
Nice job! Where did you get the Dam tape?
I got it from shower doors direct. or showerdoordirect.com. Their address is 20100 S. Normandie Ave. Torrance, CA, 90502. Phone 877-345-6721. It is listed as CRL Single-sided adhesive Windshield Support Foam Tape - 3/8" X 16'. Part number is SDD-CRL-16640
I also added the Part number and address to the video so other can see. Great input, thank you so much.
UGH....I need to do this Exact thing to my '68. Unfortunately my skill level isn't what yours is! Come help me!
Understand that. Always willing to help.
Another question - does the center chrome trim ( the one on top of the frame with the 4 screws and between the two ends that the convertible top sits on ) does the chrome trim go inside the windshield frame on both sides of the frame? Thanks
Doug, No. Send me your phone number and I will send you some photos of mine on the top of the window frame. I will delete your phone number on here afterwards.
Question, was there any gaps between the windshield top corners and the metal windsheld frame corners?
Yes, a little.
Did you have to heat the adhesive?
No, not at all.
How long is the windshield
Hi mate
Did you use a primer for the windshield sealant?
Yes, I used one-step primer from 3M part number 08681.
Did you have to buy a dozen rolls of the damming tape? they wont sell any less. If so can I buy a roll from you or a dozen of us get together and but it?
Steve, I do not have any as that was back in 2016. You may want to buy a dozen rolls and turn around and sell them on ebay by the single roll. I know that is more upfront cost but could be worth it in the long run.
What did you use to seal around the stainless trim? Looks grey
Mike, Yes, it is gray. I liked it because it blended in. It is called MEGA GRAY (O.E.M. Gasket Maker) It is a Gasket Maker material by VersaChem. You can get it at the O'reilly store. Other stores also have it. The part number is 99939.
