    I do love Looker's cover at least. 💄
    4:50 - Oh, friend... Yes. I've been right there with you. 😫 Screaming against the wind.
    6:39 - Oooh! Annie Duke! Had some experience putting this into practice not too long ago...

    This is my favorite style of video!
    Omg the quote you read from The Perfection Trap hit me like a ton of bricks. It's so so true.
    I was literally just thinking that we need a whole video on everything Agatha Christie you've read when you say you're gonna do a ranking video and I swear that happens all the time with your videos lol. I'll be thinking something and then you say it.

    Thank you for the wrap up. They way you talked about being thrifty in your youth sounded very familiar to my personal experiences, and I appreciated the openness.
    On the publishing subject, I started to recall my marketing classes in college and my retail experience. I think some marketing decisions are based on their customer demographics and their customers' buying tendencies. I have conflicting thoughts on the subject. Anyway, stay safe and happy reading.

      Thank you for watching and also for this comment!! I really would like to continue finding more books to learn more about the publishing industry! It really is such a layered, nuanced discussion I totally understand the conflicting thoughts on the subject! "The Art of Libromancy" gave me so much food for thought on the subject I feel like I will definitely be researching more in the future!

    I just listened to Essentialism by Greg McKeown this month, which is a little bit older now but I think would fit with some of the nonfiction you've also read. I definitely want to check out Quit!
    I also want to look up Fixation, because a few years back I read The Conscious Closet by Elizabeth Cline which was pretty eye opening for me but I feel like this would be the next step.

    I need to check out Fixation. I think I am in the came cycle of not having had things younger...doing well for myself (but also having to break out of the living to work mindset) and having the ability to buy whatever I wanted. I never gave it a lot of thought until recently.

    Another great video! I've added a couple of this to my TBR. Interesting thoughts arise from "Fixation." I agree that we totally over consume. However, if we all scaled back to the degree that our conscience tells us to, what does that do to industry, employment, etc. Not arguing at all. I've been in a minimizing state for several months now. But I almost feel like we--America in particular--have become such a capitalist (not necessarily a bad thing) society that if we go too far in the opposite direction we might destroy what has made us successful. Weighty thoughts, for sure. Love the sweatshirt! A friend of mine gave me a framed sign today that says, "Bookmarks are for quitters!" :)

    • @mikalareads
      @mikalareads  3 месяца назад +1

      YES I absolutely see what you mean! It really makes me think too because so much of our society is built around buying and its like it needs us to consume in order to thrive, so if we scale that back then there are so many repercussions (like how many businesses sadly closed during lockdown😣). Its such a tricky thing to try to tackle or figure out what is the best way forward!
      Also I LOVE this quote "Bookmarks are for quitters!" - thats so funny!!!!

    The Art of Libromancy sounds interesting... adding to the tbr. If you're in the market for a sci fi rec I have read The Blighted Stars by Megan E.O'Keefe and it was an easy 5 stars. It's great to hear about your thoughts around consumption and the effect of what we watch on how we consume. I feel very similarly.

      The Art of Libromancy really was such an interesting read! I had never really read anything covering that kind of subject matter! Also I added The Blighted Stars by Megan E.O'Keefe to my TBR! I am going to have to do a whole month where I challenge myself to read all the sci fi recs on my tbr because I have so many that I am interested in!!

      @@mikalareads oh my gosh…. I hear you on sci fi tbr… I said I wanted to read more sci fi this year and somehow I’ve now got sooo many I want to get too 😅😂 I hope you enjoy The Blighted Stars when you get to it! I did a readalong for it on StoryGraph which obviously you’re welcome to join if you want to see more thoughts about it but no pressure!

    I don't think I realized Laura Sims had written anything else. Not that Looker is one I should pick up. 🤣The Wayward Children series is one I need to get to shortly. Dead Silence!!! Do you plan on reading Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes? So glad you've had such a good reading month!

    • @mikalareads
      @mikalareads  4 месяца назад

      I think Laura Sims has grown SO much from Looker to How can I help you, so it makes me SOOO eager to see what she will do next!! OMG Danni I really HIGHLY recommend the Wayward children series, or maybe even you can wait until next year to start it because the final book should come out next year and then you can binge read them! YESSS ohhh I DEFINITELY want to read Ghost Station!!! I need to read more space horror/sci-fic going forward because its so interesting to me!!!
