    You could put that sausage broth in that and condense that.

    That looked good you should have thrown in so green peppers and onions they are really good from thrive. The only thing you could have done differently is the main staple hot sauce lol.

      I have to order more onions and green peppers, that is why they are not in that one. You had to remind me that I forgot the hot sauce lol, worst part was I have a small ketchup sized packet of it not 2 feet away from where I did this video and I forgot it lolol

    Excellent video! Btw..what about mylar bags? Linda's Pantry did meals in a pouch a while back..if you look up meals in a jar, tons of recipes using freeze dried and dehydrated. Great ideas you can tailor and scale down. Also..using the smaller mylar, you just add water like mt. house. You cook in the bag. And shelf life is 15yrs. Either way is great!..also, Linda's Pantry, Suttons Daze, and Angie's pantry do a collaboration called freeze dried Friday's using Thrive.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад

      Yeah I need to get some smaller mylar bags, the ones I have right now are made to fit in a 5 gallon bucket lol so unless I am feeding my entire block with a freeze dried meal they wont work :) I will be ordering smaller ones too, was thinking about that because you can cook in them!

      Cool, Yeah the ziplock ones are actual bags sealed on one end, so you can seal them on the other side once you fill them up! They work very well.

    Nice video. You live on the other side of the mountain which separates our towns. Your Amazon list is also pretty cool. The hike valley stove is no longer available so I'll have to try another option. Thanks again. I've subbed. 😃

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад

      Yeah. I was bummed about that, however I did find one on Amazon that works exactly the same, pretty much these stoves are all made in the same factory and then branded with differnt brand names anyway lol Check this one out, its exactly the same as the HikeValley One www.amazon.com/Portable-Ultralight-Windproof-Foldable-Backpacking/dp/B07BF7KZ95/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1547526532&sr=8-3&keywords=Ultralight+Anti-Scald+stove

    Would be fun to see what you could do with your own freeze dryer. A little pricey, but a good investment if you use it a lot.

    I just bought a Food Saver machine at a garage sale and 2 boxes of the plastic for wrapping. I got it for $23.00 and I priced it in the store and it is almost a $300.00 value with tax. I also got a food dehydrator for $25.00 to at a garage sale. Can anyone answer this question? If I make a meal with macroni or noodles can I just use them dried from the box?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад

      I would put them right in the bag right from the box, just remember you will have to cook them, they wont get soft just putting some hot water on them and letting it soak in like a freeze dried meal

      To make them more instant, you can buy “quick cook” pasta or cook pasta and dehydrate it. Store in an airtight container.

    good video and nice you showed it works with the Stanley cook pot (I would use a larger pan myself) and was that the cima -1 knife you used, I have the same one, small but a good camp knife

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад

      yeah a larger pan would have been ideal but I wanted to show it would work in that cook set too. Yup that was my Cima knife, still working great here!

    If its all freeze dried it would have been way better to just mix it all together then add the hot water.

      Nevermind. made the comment before i noticed the type of freeze dried egg he is using.

  • @05generic

    That's a nice way to carry bug out food. Does each food require a different amt of hydration water? You hydrated them separately but then mixed them together to cook. In a bug out scenario where you might be dealing with uneven surfaces and low work height, simplification would be a plus.
    You're on to a great concept. I don't already have a vacuum sealer and the stuff that goes with it, or a dehydrator for that matter, so I would have to think about the investment cost. It seems that a person would have think up different uses or make a boat load of bug out meals to justify the start up cost. Dang that was a lot of typing! I'll shut up now. Just thinking "out load."

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah in the future I will be thinking about ways I can make it easier to cook the stuff, this was really just a first go at it. As for cost, the vac sealer I got in a thrift shop cheap, the bags were like 7 bucks each and the freeze dried food was from cans I purchased, so it was not bad.

  • @omnicopynotfooled5973

    Do I have to use the little moisture absorber packets when vacuuming the dried foods for long term?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад +1

      No, because using the vacuum sealer, you are already taking out all the oxygen out of the bag. I still have this packed meal in my garage storage area, keeping it there in the heat to test it out later in a video, its still packed and sealed nice and tight.

    My question is how did you get your 3 compartment zip bag like that

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  4 года назад

      I just sealed it without anything in it, across the side, made 3 pockets and then filled them.

    Looks like a good hearty meal but that Stanley pot looks like it would be a pain to clean out when you’re done cooking.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад +1

      Wasn't too bad, I just scrubbed it out with a green scrubbie but next time will be using oil or butter on the bottom.
