Really interesting, thank you for doing this. We are new to the area and was keen to find out more. The history of the miners, their lives and bravery needs to be told.

Great video many thanks for posting it. I don't come from a mining background but my family's background comes from generating power and without coal we wouldn't have had the power stations to make power so I do appreciate the story of coal and coal mining and the coal miners that went underground to give us fuel to make electricity.

A great video, thanks for posting. I grew up in Shireoaks during1960/70s. My mother was secretary to Mr Stevens, the manager at Shireoaks colliery. The views of the old canteen building brought back happy memories; my friends and I used to go in there during the school holidays. All the miners and canteen staff used to be happy to see us, a group of 4 teenage boys, go in there for sandwiches and pop. Wonderful times!

I enjoyed that, bit of local history, a few of your own memories, and nobody to try and wind up! Just a pity you couldn't do a few more like this!

SHIREOAKS ! I loved this ! I worked there mate with my Marra Adrian Phillips. We were two Mining Engineering Trainees . I remember a few .. 'Nitty' was well known , a real hero. You maybe remember Bernard Nakajima, who stood out as the only Japanese in the pit. Rocky was a trainee, thick as a brick and much fun had. I forget the names
Never forget the Canteen, best brekkie ever !
We used to use our coal allowance, one for us and the other for old harry and Alice, ex miner in Whitwell.
Yes hard times in the strike. All you said is true.
Thanks for the video mate !

What a small world it is, what a shame that these places with so much history are quickly disappearing
