Interesting about the bat ring test proving some bats failing to meet their own spec. If manufacturers keep using techniques like that to optimize performance (if that's in fact what they're doing), maybe a different but helpful metric would be "length of max width" or "percent length equal to max width" where you measure the length of the bat that matches what max barrel width is. Or are you already doing that in the existing profile metric, i.e. making adjustments to profile metrics for these bats that dont meet spec width?
I might be wrong but it seems like the longer your bat can stay the max width, the more sweet spot you have from a length persepective, the more forgiving the bat is for certain types of hitters. So theoretically a hitter may be better off forgoing *much more* than that 1-out-of-1-million extra width if it buys him half an inch more barrel at max width. I think I am that hitter.

Ah well i just rewatched and read your site, seems like you are already doing that, so i guess the 1 to 5 scores are just 5 quantiles of the max barrel length distributions.

@@scottfishing2948 Thanks for the comment Scott. Yeah. We're still trying to find the best ways to present that stuff so thanks for the feedback. And it is wild that they don't even meet the 2 5/8 in some case.
