I cry every time I hear this score...reminds me so much of my Army Buddy and I..he and I had a goodbye like George and Ori did at the end of series one near Desert Storm..... he and I have our pics taken together in Civil War attire at the beginning with our shoulders together....my idea for he and I and the photographer loved the pose.
Don’t forget that -with the exception of a few that already had a successful career by that time, like Mitchum- most of the other actors were unknown when the show aired. So, it’s only considered an all star cast viewed in today’s standards.

What epic cast, an epic piece of movie, and just an epic TV Mini Series. I was 9 when it was on. My parents allowed me to stay up each night itcwaa on. I do believe my love of history came from this.

I was initially taken aback by it starting in 1842 my reaction was '1842?That's before the Mexican-American war. I wanna get to Bull Run.' Then I realised an epic tale cannot start immediately. You need context.

Both North and South 1&2 were my favorite miniseries. I have never forgotten the theme music after all these years. I loved it.
To me the best of the mini series along with Scruples and The Thorn Birds.

My mistake. I just note that they have a very definitive tone and are used in this piece as a kind of counter melody very effectively.

Never heard it until now cuz the show wasn't aired in my country, the beginning is kinda like Dynasty and the orchestration is epic, it's gorgeous
to me.. it ends after the first series when Orry and George unite the torn dollar bill at the end ... i imagine they all lived happily ever after

Yes, I lost interest after Swayze and Kirsti Alley's runs ended.
It most certainly didn't get better, but sometimes you have to just hang on to the bitter end - like a bad marriage or dinner with the inlaws.
